Just posted my pic from today in the other snow thread.

This is the type of snow we get. Snow tires with studs and I'm golden all season. I use auto socks when the state patrol mandate chains over the pass. I don't think chains or the socks truly add additional traction with my current tire set up (feel it's more for the summer tire/all season crowd) but it is the law.

The auto socks are awesome and easy to install, they work well on ice but not so great on deep and wet snow. I fucked mine up when I ran them at 45mph on some pretty patchy road with some parts with no snow cover. Keeping up with traffic as we came out of a chain only area and had no place to take them off.

They are good to have but I'd say they won't last long and are sorta mediocre. Get them for ease of use, nothing heavy duty.

Sure, maybe if you live somewhere where you only need them like 5 days out of the year, fine. But if it snows where you live, even if its less than a week, it still gets cold, and winter tire tread outperforms everything else below 40F.

The only real use for these if you are traveling to a colder state on a road trip, and will need to deal with snow, and dont want to bring spare tires.
