>>
>>16469062

>>16469072

>>16469072
One thing that I like about race 07 is the metric crap ton of stuff it has. I really like STCC and a couple of other series.
>>
>>16469029
Those limits on SimBin games have always been shit. IIRC GTR2 capped at like 30 people which is nonsensical in a game with multiclass day/night endurance racing.
>>
>>16469062
Yeah, TCs don't seem hugely popular. It depends on how much we overflow a 24 player server, but if it's a big enough number a second server is a viable option.

Or a quali shootout and only the fastest get to race
>>
Hey I've been looking to get into assetto corse racing a lot more and right now all I have is an Xbox controller but I wanna get a racing wheel and pedals

I really don't wanna spend more than 300 dollars but a lot of Logitech wheels themselves alone are over that

Is there anything I can do for sub 300 or am I just never gonna find something unless I do blow that much more?
>>
>>16469006
For something with expected low attendance hell fucking yes, but as >>16469029 said, it really can't do more than 24 people.

In the league I was in with Race07 what we did was the 24 best practice times drove on server 1, the rest on server 2, but if your race time on server 2 was better than someone on server 1, you would be ahead of them. So you essentially did time attack across 2 servers rather than one big race like we do.

>>16469146
And that's why a TC league in Race07 would kind of make sense, you could have enough for it to be fun, not enough for it to cross the driver limit - and it could all be stock content except for skins (which I might add you can use online without sharing with the server, everyone else will just see a default one, so for instance you and your friend could have something no server would allow on, and you'd be able to see it because you both have the files, but the rest of the players all see a default skin)

>>16469153
eBay, the current gen Logitech wheels are just G27s with a new rim and a shifter you have to buy separately. Notice the reverse gear on most G25+G27 will have shit itself by now
>>
>>16469006
No, but most of the content already exists in rfactor anyway.

>Notice the reverse gear on most G25+G27 will have shit itself by now

>>
>>16469153
Used market is your friend.

DFGT for the basics, and a G27 for a full package.
around 50-100 dollars for a DFGT and 150-230 for the G27 is good, depending on the state the wheel is in(the 27 will tend to be a bit overpriced since it got discontinued a bit ago)

>>
>>16469170
You just map it somewhere else if you really need it desu. The problem is the way the gear works. I have repaired mine once, but it didn't take long to fail again.

Essentially the reverse gear works by pressing down the gear knob and going into 6th gear. This activates a small pushbutton at the bottom of the gear lever, and the wheel knows it is in reverse. However this pushbutton is directly attached to the gear lever and moves around all the time when you shift gear, and the wires are soldered on rather than crimped, so the solderings fail quite quickly, within 3 months on my first G27.

You don't use the reverse gear really, and when you do you can just have one of the red buttons mapped for it, or you're in a semi auto car anyway and you just downshift

A few qustions out of the top of my mind here.

After the whole Kunos fiasco, spouting trash all over the internet, it made me think.
I always regarded AC as having good handling overall, and while rf2 was supposedly better made, i never liked how much it depended on mods to actually work.
So, back home, i'm doing some comparative laps with the 911 Cup/Flat 6 car.
Thing is, what's the point to even start comparisons? I mean, it's not like i have experience with racecars and all, i'm actually looking into a simulation, and both of them are, flawed somehow.
I mean, what's the point of the whole thing? I've even read somewhere that "the Flat6 mod is pure garbage". Well, so, how does a 011 Cup car behave then? What are the metrics we're supposed to use, in order to know?
The drifter that called on Kunos's faults, maybe he's used to setup his cars for oversteer, and is now missing his corner entrance oversteer somehow?
By the end of the day, what are the metrics we use to say games are or are not realistic, and is there even a point in striving for realistm?

>>16471805
>Get Rfactor 2 if you have cash to burn
why's that?
>>
>>16471737
Get iRacing if you love wasting money, driving on ice, and racing idiots.
>>
>>16471811
If you've ever done any modding with AC you'd know that a lot of the values are fudged to work with the engine, to the point where suspension geometry is outright incorrect and it's easier to just make a mcpherson strut car use a double wishbone geometry and tune handling to the realistic feel rather than trying to go through the fiasco of setting up mcpherson struts on a car in AC.

>why's that
Because there's no series in Rfactor 2 and nobody really plays it.
>>
>>16471811
They're realistic when the cars are defined realistically and actually drive like cars and tires behave like tires

>captcha
>assedic ristor
>>
>>16471831
So, I'm not trying to start shit, but isn't the entire mod fudged? I mean, it's not like enduracers got access to the Alpine LMP2 and them just put the stats in the game, right?
>>
>>16471831
>Because there's no series in Rfactor 2 and nobody really plays it.
We're going to do more. It's a matter of timing and sorting out the transition from non-Steam to Steam/S397. As for rF2, I'd probably recommend waiting for the next holiday sale if it goes down but it's reasonably priced not at $32.
>>
>>16471814
Hey it's only ice when the weather dice roll decides to make it one, it can just as easily be the real slot car racing experience now.
>>
>>16470645
NFS suffers from the problem of drift often being far faster than grip in every application.
>>
>>16471855
Yeah but they can be made a bit easier, plus suspension geometry in RF1 and 2 is handled correctly so you can be sure it's a bit more realistic.

AC is a great game for looks and having fun, but the handling still needs a lot of work. What that drifter guy was talking about with car "feel" isn't that the cars don't oversteer or understeer, it's that the tires behave way too rigid.

If you imagine the grip limit of tires in a circle and the amount of grip you have as a dot in that circle, under acceleration that dot would go towards the back of the circle until it went outside, then the wheels would slip. This is more or less how grip with cars works in the real world. In AC, however, it's more of a diamond, or for some cars even a mild superellipse, which means that any attempts to trail brake or run a trailing throttle with some cars removes all grip from the tires, which simply isn't realistic.

That said, the GT cars handle fairly well. It's mostly road cars that have this issue in AC.
>>
>>16471811
>it's not like i have experience with racecars and all
While this is true to an extent, it should not be used to discount and flat out reject all feedback on mods. People use this all the time as an excuse when it's a fallacy. People who are good with sims might also understand the physics, people can be good at the sims and have a horrible understanding of physics, real-life drivers can understand real-life dynamics but have horrible perception of cars in sims.

There is a point to striving for realism but not everything can be simulated nor should you attempt to fudge more factors just because you can. It's difficult to describe but as I mentioned earlier, when you are familiar with vehicle dynamics then there are expectations you have for the physics of a car. We can use official content as a helpful baseline to compare mods and other official content to. The Flat6 mod is garbage. We can attribute this to many factors like the tires, inertia, suspension, and a slew of other characteristics.

The 911 Cup behaves mostly how one would expect to drive given a restricted setup but there are still some underlying quirks in the tire model that I'm not sure have been resolved and have always been fudged in AC and every video game simulation of a tire. We can do our best to keep improving and trying to match theory with practical application but we will always be fallible. The best we can do is be open to feedback and communication as we strive to improve the simulation. There are a lot of topics to discuss and it's hard to answer in a post because the questions you asked require a lot of context and explanation if you're unfamiliar.
>>
>>16471926
>It's mostly road cars that have this issue in AC.
And road cars/low speeds are the hardest to model. In the physics equations that govern behavior in sims, a lot of infinities and zeroes end up in equations at low speeds which results in discontinuities or approximations becoming wildly inaccurate. So they resort to the best approximations they can which results in some inconsistencies or oddness in handling but it's really the best they can do at the time. It's a comprise which is what engineering and simulating physics is all about - how cheaply and well you can accurately model physics in a real-time environment.

>Yeah but they can be made a bit easier, plus suspension geometry in RF1 and 2 is handled correctly so you can be sure it's a bit more realistic.

What about Niels and his 2 meter tall suspension pushrods and fixed spring rates? Are you saying the master of gmotor is wrong?
>>
>>16471926
I understood him. And sometimes felt like some performance road cars (the R8, for example) couldn't carry speed on some corners, or carry braking in, for some reason. But I mostly play with GT and single seaters, so I thought "yeah, maybe they actually behave like this".
AC kinda hates it's modders now, closing the forum and changing things that brake mods often.
Maybe that's the reason.
>>
>>16471996
Stefano seems like a literal man child. He's incredibly insecure and probably didn't like the reputation modders gave to the physics of "his" game. I watched some of his videos when he first started streaming, had seen his spergouts on forums before that, and this is just the icing on the cake. The dude has brain problems and shouldn't be communicating at all with customers. He burned a lot of bridges with this behavior because he thinks that he can do no wrong.

I mean, i lke the way some cars in AC go, some RF2 mods too, bt i find myself failing to understand some criticism over some cars from time to time. Like, the drifter guy said that the 911 should't oversteer on corner exit, when mashing the throttle. Why wouldn't it happen? If you still are doing lateral G's ( a ton of them with an engine on the rear) and spend even more traction accelerating, of course you'll spin, why woudln't you? Only if the rear squatted so fast, the front would lose grip, and then the car would just push out of the corner, right?

Are you on a quali setup?
>>
>>16471993
I don't know what the fuck he's talking about, rF can handle a bit more variety in layouts but fundamentally gmotor was developed for F1 cars with a specific pushrod geometry and will cause fucked up jacking if you use pushrods normally otherwise, it's literally part of the rF1 documentation.
>>
>>16472101
Nope race setup, also set a 1:48:2 soon after there is for sure another .4 seconds to shave off that I can feel.

where's the proof on this? i've literally only seen it said here in the thread by you
>>
>>16472169
In rF1 the outboard mounting point for the pushrod has to be on the upright (which isn't strictly accurate for absolutely all F1 cars either, but is normal). In rF2 you can specify what other sub-body it connects to.

Yes, you might learn one thing or two about car control and spacial awareness. But don't expect simracing to turn you into an actual racing driver.

You might learn some throttle control and vehicle dynamics but you have to put in the effort to learn them. Knowledge isn't magically expounded to you, you have to find it yourself.

WTF i hate Assetto Corsa now!
>>
>>16474081
Yes.
I have been playing racing games since I was tall enough to reach the pedals. It has made me a much better driver than if I'd just jumped in a car without any experience, and I say that as someone who genuinely loves cars to death and wouldn't be caught dead without wheels.

Now I'm not going to say I'm a perfect driver, but having played racing games extensively, observed many types of vehicles in simulators and games and studied they way they move, I have a confident feeling in a real vehicle. I know precisely how much space I have, I know how the car will react to my input, and most importantly, I have no problem paying attention to ALL of the vehicles around me all the time.

I feel like I can project simulations of reality in my own mind, and not only use this to rather accurately "predict" (more like logical incredibly lucky guessing) road hazards and the actions of other drivers, but also overlay my mental simulation onto my vision and "see through" things such as my own car.

It's like, if you know how your suspension works, what it looks, like, and roughly where it is on the car, as you're driving along, you become acutely aware of it and it's motion even though all you can really do is feel the reaction of the car's body. I feel like this ability was given to me by video games because simulators force your mind to calculate inertia and momentum through visual cues, and my mental vision of the suspension of my car is simply that same calculation in reverse.

>>
>>16474487
You basketball American, being bad has nothing to do with a car getting loose under braking and countersteering and getting on the gas to straighten it out having absolutely no effect. People drive it fine sure, by never ever fucking getting into a situation they actually need to catch the car because it's completely broken over the limit.

The McLaren is a poop car with a deathtrap rear suspension but it's actually possible to avoid doing the world's laziest spin into the inside grass once the car starts over-rotating. There's a reason why outside of top splits almost every fucking car actually doing a competitive speed is a Mercedes. When people said the Audi was more difficult I'd hoped it was more in the vein of the current 12C or IndyCar, not it being NTMv4 reincarnated.

On the plus side you have to be autistic about packing stuff and flat tires can happen.

>>
>>16475645
That would be pretty dope. So overall what you're saying is that the Jalopy is already built when I start the game up and all I do is pretty much keep up with regular maintenance and shit?
>>
>>16475628
You take it to the bodyshop, pay for the fix and die hooning the muscle car while your car is being worked on.
>>
>>16475668
To some degree. The engine is broken down into various parts
>Battery
>Windshield fluid (water)
>Engine
>intake
>Ignition coil
>gas tank

You also have to premix your gas because it's a 2-stroke. Running lots of oil kills power and economy but prolongs your engine's life. Running very little oil gives you lots of power but a short lifespan. All the parts can be swapped and upgraded, and other parts like racks and such can be installed. You also have to manage space with the car for packing stuff.

It's a pretty good game.

Nope, but if I'm honest I haven't spent a second on rf2 skinning since I made the Velocity GP LMP2
>>
>>16481947
It was for the GT3s in rF1. The AMG Merc has this option but no amount of fiddling with textures and filenames made it even load.

I can't recall the exact errors, but something about not loading WCEXTRA5 (perhaps not that exact spelling) and "error loading texture numberglow". I suppose I somehow fucked something and the game doesn't find the file it wants.

James is actually right to say people treat the hobby as if it's something out of this world, expensive, hard and exclusive. It's just a goddann game.

>tfw wet as fuck snow outside

This is the worst, the roads are turned into a slush. Its been snowing for a few days straight now, and its been +2-3C. They have been putting down tons of salt too, which makes it even more disgusting. I hate the government, but I like to pretend I am a racing driver.

Dog bless.

Also my italian neighbor made this snowman, I think its pretty good for an italian.

Over here in Manchester, Bongistan, we have shit tons of salt on the road but no snow. Just had to spray down my bike. Exhaust was getting encrusted with fucking salt.

Not really. With the Euro and the same VAT it would be nearly the same increase. Really most places that aren't the US it's doubled or so, Murikans don't appreciate that those places having to pay sales tax is a big deal because it's on top of that already.
