Mustang because unlike the Challenger it's actually for sale here meaning not having to import it, also the Challenger is even bigger and more cumbersome; and unlike the Camaro it won't make me look like a gigantic tool.

I'd rather have something much smaller though.

I think the Mustang wins aesthetically against the Camaro, hands down. The Camaro looks so generic and edgy whereas the Mustang has a pleasantly defined fastback.

Challenger is a different type of car. It's a highway king meant for comfy cruising.

It's a toss up between the Mustang and the Camaro. Camaro has a slight edge on performance, Mustang has a slight edge on looks but it's a ford.

Except that smaller means more practical. It still has the same number of seats and sufficient cargo space, but being a foot shorter makes it much easier to parallel park, which outside of the United States of Walmart Space Shuttle Parking Lots is an important aspect of buying a car.

Sadly they're all the same pigfat width in the current model year. The previous gen Mustang wasn't nearly as bad, almost two inches narrower.

WARNING: MULTI PART LONGPOST INCOMING

>>16452788
Went through this exact thing over the last few months when I was deciding on what car to buy, along with some other contenders like an M2. One thing to keep in mind is that I was looking for a daily driver out of this. Another thing to note is that I had absolutely no brand loyalty going into this; never owned a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge, nor did my family.
This is obviously largely subjective and mostly pertains to the V8s because the other trims were never in the running for me. That said, for a 4cyl I'd go Ecoboost and for V6 I'd go Camaro.

>Cons
Mustang: Interior, outdated engine/no DI, ability to put power down stock, Sync is garbage, maintenance costs on par with BMWs for some reason, image (by image I mean the association these cars have, for example around here there's a squad of about ten 18-24 retards that race up and down the highway so Mustangs get more attention from cops and Mustang drivers are generally looked at as douchebags)
Camaro: exterior styling, price, visibility, no HD radio, gas mileage with 8 cylinders engaged (see pros), difficult to modify, preciseness takes some fun out of the drive (see pros), it's not an LT4
Charger: reliability issues, transmission, tie rod devourer, cheap interior, weight/literally a boat, image. After talking to some cops and the department fleet mechanics, there was no way in hell.
Challenger: drivability/handling, weight, interior left a lot to be desired, Dodge needs to do a lot of work to catch Ford/Chevy's new generation which they won't even attempt until at least 2020
>>

muh_track.jpg
353KB, 805x829px
>>16454936

>Pros
Mustang: Dat S550 exterior, finally has IRS, handles considerably better than previous Mustangs, just straight up fun to drive, easily modifiable and great aftermarket support, price, adaptive cruise, 3.55 diff from the factory
Camaro: By far the nicest interior of the lot... feels like being in a jet, HUD, the handling was incredible (especially compared to how I thought it was going to feel based on how the car looked), extremely precise and stable, variable displacement/gas mileage when taking advantage of the variable displacement, power to weight, more power than the Mustang and better at putting it down (it's pretty hard to slip the back wheels especially running them with slightly lower PSI), brakes, probably the best overall performance of the bunch, and of course, the Magnetic Ride suspension.
Charger: 4 doors (for me), uhh.. I dunno I'm really struggling here. One plus for me was the power specifically compared to other sedans, but when comparing it to the coupes that doesn't really fly.
Challenger: price, power to weight (kind of negates the price advantage because of the needed package), exterior modern but retro look

As you can probably tell, the Dodges got ruled out pretty quickly, even though I would have preferred a sedan. At the end of the day it came down to the Camaro and Mustang. Now I went a bit further than most people get to when testing a car, partly because of the relationships I had with the sales people at each dealership and partly because I have access to the closest thing to a private track without it actually being a track (pic related & can elaborate if interested in what types of testing I put these cars through).
>>
>>16453263
You have the Charger confused with the Chrysler 300. They're pretty much the same car, but it's the 300 that's the black favored car, hands down. Whites prefer the Charger.

The Camaro and Mustang both handled beautifully, the biggest difference I noticed came in high speed cornering. The Camaro was incredibly precise and absolutely bolted to the ground, point the car where you want it to go and it goes. The relationship between the suspension and the brakes is fantastic, and shifting the pitch and balance of the car was super easy. However, that is exactly why the Mustang is more fun to drive. It doesn't corner as well, it's shakier in almost every aspect, it has more roll, and it needs constant driver input and slight corrections to get it to go where you want it, you feel like if you fuck it up you're going into a tree or ditch, but that's exactly why it's entertaining.

I absolutely love the way the S550 looks from the outside, but the interior is extremely disappointing. It's not the shitty Mustang interiors of old (e.g. < 2005) but it still felt like Ford put in no effort to improve it. Other than the general look of it, I had to major gripes with the interior and that was the placement of the handbrake (raised, and right where I put my arm to have it on the shifter), and the unnecessary curve on the footwell trim area right where I keep my right knee. (pic related)

The Camaro always looked gaudy to me from the exterior so I couldn't even see myself in it before I drove one. Thankfully, the 6th gen looks much better than the 5th gen to me, the design changes weren't huge, but the effect is major. Also, Camaros have an odd way of looking completely different based on the color. The non metallic colors just look bland and dated and don't showcase the design lines as well as colors like Nightfall Gray Metallic, Hyper Blue Metallic, Arctic Blue Metallic, or either of the Blacks. DO NOT get this car in White, Yellow, or Red (Garnet Red Tintcoat is fine). As I've mentioned before, the interior absolutely blew me away. If I want to nitpick, the only issues I managed to come up with was that the seats/mirrors have to be set almost perfectly for visibility to not be an issue, the air vents rattle a little bit on occasion, the HUD can't be projected as high on the window as I'd like, the center console is useless made worse by there already being a lack of places to put things like phones or glasses cases, the wireless charging dock is too small for my iPhone 6s Plus, and the latch that holds the folding back seat is tough to engage. All pretty minor, and not all better in the other cars.

Evidently, as I was trying to judge the cars, Interior, Exterior, and Performance/Handling became the 3 primarily contested points. The Camaro won one handily, the Mustang had the edge on the other, and they were pretty even on the final frontier.
The way I had the cars spec'd out, the Mustang came in about $6000 cheaper than the Camaro based on MSRP (the higher price on the Camaro left me more wiggle room to negotiate though, which made the true difference probably closer to about $4500-5000), but lacked a lot of the options the Camaro came with. Most importantly, the Magnetic Ride suspension; this alone was worth the price difference to me. Other things included better brakes, exhaust, sunroof, audio, and some other more minor things.
>>
>>16454971
Ultimately I decided on the Camaro, a 2SS 50th Anniversary Edition to be exact, over a California Special Mustang GT Premium. It's hard to go wrong with either car though.
The deciding factors probably came down to the interior being more important than the exterior to me and the Magnetic Ride, I seriously cannot overstate how amazing that suspension is. My concerns with the exterior looks of the Camaro were mitigated by the changes that were made for the new generation and the color scheme I picked, and a few other appearance options on it. The more I drive it, the more satisfied I am with my decision, though that could just be confirmation bias and post purchase rationalization. No matter, I'm happy with it.

For fun, if we're talking high performance models of the same cars, I'd take a new ZL1 with the 10 speed auto no question 100 times out of 10. I'm excited to see how Ford responds, but as of now that ZL1 is a godmachine and absolutely crazy bang for buck. If the wait and allocation issues weren't as shitty as they were I would have probably gone with that but I needed something a bit more practical and needed it ASAP.

>>16453170
The mustang looks like shit on the inside, especially compared tot he new Camaro interior
>visibility flaws
set your seat and mirrors properly and there is no visibility issues on the 6th gen.
And this is coming from someone who almost wrecked twice leaving the dealership because mirrors weren't set properly (Drove off the lot at night, mirrors had been acceptable during the day so I didn't think anything of it. Bad assumption.), so I know exactly how bad the visibility *CAN* be. I'm still getting used to reversing (first car with a backup cam) and knowing exactly how far to pull into parking spots (I have a splitter so I can't just roll the front over the parking bump).

You definitely missed some ZL1s in your tally. Also, including Hellcats in your tally for challengers is dumb because buying a base challenger because the hellcat got more votes and vice versa is comparing apples to oranges.

Now for fun, go back and tally only the responses that provided a coherent reason for the choice and ignore the "mustang because gm is for cucks" posts
There's some surprisingly good posts in this thread and it would be a shame to give the shitposts equal credibility
>>
>>16452788
OP, you should really specify which trims are in the running and especially if you aren't considering the high performance variants like the Hellcat, Shelby, and ZL1 considering how many people in this thread have thrown out their votes based on one of those models rather than the base models

>>
>>16455026
My pleasure, lad. I was meaning to do a write up anyway so I'll just use my posts in this thread as a base.
>I really do wish I was comfortable with the Camaro visibility, because the interior is actually pretty cool.
Have you actually test driven one yet? I'd recommend you do so before ruling it out based on that because it was also a big concern for me going in, but by the time I was done test driving it I had gotten used to it and felt comfortable enough with it to feel like it wouldn't be a problem for me. After driving it for the past 2 weeks I've gotten even more used to it.
Also, I specifically tested the Mustang first (same day) so I'd have a fresh comparison of the visibilities and know exactly how much worse the Camaro's visibility was than the Mustang's (not that much worse btw).

>>16464502
With current generations, they all have pretty similar visibility. A lot of the "Camaro can't see shit" meme is from gen 5, still probably the worst of the 3 in terms of visibility, but it's not nearly as bad as all these memeing chucklefucks make it out to be. It was my biggest concern before I bought mine with how much the lack of visibility was discussed, but nah, not even close to that bad.
In fact, the biggest problem with small windows is reaching out of it (at drive thrus for example) if you also like to keep your seat low because your shoulder joint will be slightly below the window line.
