If gas mileage isn't an issue, get a late 90s z71. Best truck I've ever owned. Great motor, great tranny, great diffs, etc. I have the extended cab long bed, and my only gripe is the long wheelbase. Solid truck all around.

Also sounds like you'd just kill yourself in a truck. Trucks take a bit more to handle especially in snow and ice conditions as you have no weight in the back, they get very sideways happy.

Yeah I hate my open diff I want to swap in an LSD eventually and change whatever factory gears it has to 3.73s or go 4.11s with a gear vendors behind the trans, but suspension is next on the list.

Just don't expect a truck to make you a god driver in all conditions they don't drive like a cat and require you to know how to handle them when they under or oversteer in bad conditions or lose traction just as any vehicle.
