Toyota cant have a car outperform their Lexus powerplants, which already have their own issues.
But atleast they had to foresight to not completely ditch port injector(s) with their fuel system.

Subaru cant have a lighter,smaller car with a turbod engine similar to their beloved WRX either.

Nobody has figured out how to do an engine swap and retain all the factory functions yet. For 10k in mods you would have turbo + supporting mods (400whp on e85), suspension bits, exhaust, 17x9 wheels with sticky 245s. They're depreciating so much so buying a 2013/14 in the mid teens is easy.
