Would buying one of these make me appreciate cars more?

Currently I'm not that into cars and have driven Japanese econoboxes in auto my whole life.

Don't know jack about engines and all that and don't even k ow how to drive manual yet.

I've always liked how wrx's looked though and I would buy one and force myself to drive manual.

Would getting g one turn me into a h/o/on

>>16403574
the wrx is just another japanese economy box that goes sort of fast with a turbo bolted onto it.

It does exactly what it says on the tin.

By all means go for it.
>>
Try one, lots of fun.
>>
>>16403574
I did the WRX thing and I wouldn't recommend it. The cars are overpriced and generally need money sunk into them after a lifetime of abusive use by their previous owners. You can get a fun car that does essentially the same thing for much less money so unless you're really in love with them I'd start by looking elsewhere.
>>
>>16403574
If you can get one for a decent price (which is hard these days because vapetax lmao) then sure, get one.
Or at least drive one. See if you enjoy the AWD traction, boxer rumble and that feeling of the boost coming on and shoving you forward.

I have pic related and honestly it is the best "how do i into cars" experience I've ever had. I've learned a lot about cars in general due to the amount of maintenance googling I've had to do learn how to drive stick, and in the end do some hektik skidz in the wintertime. It got me into all cars. Only thing about them is that they are really rice taxed and there are fewer and fewer stock ones out there to start fresh. Still worth it though in my book if you can afford one, /o/ likes to vape meme it into oblivion and call it shit but they do that to a lot of good cars. Follow your heart, anon.
>>
>>16403574
Its a meme machine. If you're into cars, you'll find stuff to like about any car, and just about any sports car will be fun.

You sound like a fucking weeb. Go home and hump your waifu body pillow.

That's rude

Depends what your into man for me it started with the AMC 242 engine and then I got into chevy small blocks (both of which are basically Legos) and I was hooked. If the import scene is your thing man I would honestly recommend the civic for 3k maymay and go from there however I have 2 specific buddies who did the Subaru route.

One bought anew old 80s wagon (like in grounded for life) because it was all he could afford and he was instantly hooked. Within a year he was doing major services on the dam thing with just YouTube and a socket set. He went on to buy literally nothing but subarus from then on and now has a turbo WRX wagon that's lifted like a rally car. One of my most knowledgeable friends in cars and got me a part time at autozone.

He sold one of his WRX sedans to my second buddy who also went down that rabbit hole, eventually got a job as a lube tech since he liked wrenching, and worked his way up to transmission specialist at a dealership. All from being a hobbyist on his subaru doing basic maintenence and tuning.

At the end of the day man there's a solid like 8 or 9 cars that are perfect for beginners. Old VW, 3k Hondas, small block chevys, Cherokee with a straight 6, Saturn's etc etc.

You gotta find what fits YOU otherwise you'll hate it

I had a third gen (84 firebird) for like a year. Those are a little tricky because it was a shitty period for cars in general. The smog era was in full effect so emissions smothered all performance. Like no shit 175 horsepower from a 5.7L v8. Also the quadrajets were starting to be computer controlled which sucks since theyre thirty years old now and shit fails, or worse yet that early crossfire fuel injection. Lots of unnecessary shit under the hood wouldn't recommend for a beginner. However, the aesthetic of a 3rd gen with t tops is pretty hnnnnnnggggg
>>
>>16404299
Blew up the engine on this bitch and sold it to some guy who was gonna LS swap it and build some kind of 80s super car imitatio kit car out of it because of the body style and the tops. Like Ferrari and fieros apparently. Despite the anemic 305 and smog bullshit was a blast to drive. Would put the time tops down and had a flowmaster 80 on it that made it at least sound good and higher shocks in the rear for stinkbug stance. Hit 135 on the freeway, hit a bump and the rear end bounced up. Good times

Yeah I think the most they make is like 225 which is fuck awful for a big ass V8. The reason I'm looking at 87+ is cause it's when they got "real" fuel injection, not the throttle body shit they were running before. Gotta have those T tops
>>
>>16404323
Christ these cars look nice. Yeah I plan on pulling the cat and running glass packs or something so it sounds like it should

My fun experience with the 84 firebird is what drove me to get my 2nd Gen f body. After having fun with 160 horses from a 80s bird I wanted a "real v8". Cammed, carbed, no computers, mechanical carburetor and fuel pump and everything dual exhaust upgraded heads pistons and intake etc etc etc and don't forget the fuckin 3 speed auto for authentic feel. But it's a whole different animal the 3rd gens could corner and handle a fuck ton better than my current straight line 8th of a mile car. It's super simple to work on too I learned to adjust a carburetor in like and afternoon and got a second one from eBay just to tinker with in my free time. I'm personally just not that big of a fan of the 3rd gen anymore it feels like a vestigial species that failed to adapt. I would go with a first or second and have fun wrenching a BBC or SBC into a monster, or go the other way and get like a trans am with an ls1 and just rape everyone. But third gens have that 80s cool to them

I'm planning on throwing cherry bombs on this one too just to full shitbag, it already sets off every alarm.

But not to derail the op, the chevy small block series isn't the be all end all of beginners engines. If your thing isn't big American v8s then by all means try out a Volvo, or a Honda or corolla or fuck man an air cooled Volkswagen. Can't go wrong with jeep straight 6 either but literally the rest of the car will fall apart in weeks
>>
>>16403574
I was a lot like you and wanted a WRX but I found that clean ones are a bit pricey for cars that are 10+ years old, don't get discouraged and try to look at other cars if you can't find a WRX in your budget
>>
>>16404519
What else would you recommend

Also are wrx's easy to work on or cheap to service and maintain if you pay someone to do it.

What are suretell signs of thrashed wrxs? ones that aren't stock?
>>
Hmm, should I take a look at this?

>boosted 4 banger is an economy box
You are exactly what is wrong with people these days.

These cars are 23mpg

The 2016 civic ext is an econobox. Not a fucking wrx
>>
>>16404859
If you want cars with a wide aftermarket that are easy to service, the mazda miata and most hondas are viable options for low cost to own

If you want to work on your own car, every single one has pros and cons, the engine in a WRX is structured so that its cooling system is on top of the block thus all the parts under it are a bit difficult to reach. I can't speak to the price but there are a lot of people out there that have experience working on Subarus

Spotting trashed WRXs is not always an easy task, usually its a safer bet to go looking for stock mostly because the issues that occur with age are well documented, if you're going to gamble on a modded one look for modifications to the engine and suspension, massive aftermarket turbos turn your econobox into a Hummer, lowering springs or stancing kill tires, kill your wheel wells, or you can bottom out over just about anything that isn't purely flat
