can I daily drive one?

Question from last thread.
Alright guys, I got another question. What size is the NEO3-R for the hazard switch? I've looked on a lot of forums, but I can't find anything about the size. I'm thinking that it's a 3mm.

I seriously regret not buying the Merlot M Edition that my hard top came off. The kid was selling it on CL and I asked him if he'd sell the hard top separate and he said he would. I got there, and it was a pretty mint Merlot M Edition that only needed a drivers seat since it was a bit torn up. He said he'd take $2,300 for the car that day. This was before Miata prices went way up. If I could go back, I would've bought that thing in a heartbeat.

I've actually seen the opposite. Most people who's car isn't just a beater have decent to great tires. I personally run some direzza dz102s because I see a lot of rain, but warm weather. I could go for some ZII star specs, but I'd eat them up to quickly and rain would probably kill me.

I finally am getting progress done on getting my F1 style mirrors on, today I made the basic brackets to be able to use the original holes for the mirrors so I wouldn't have to drill more into the car for this. F1 mirrors will go on tomorrow probably.

If you are buying a coilover setup you don't need to use a spring compressor

If you are buying Koni yellows and flyin Miata springs or something then ya you'll need a spring compressor

Imo don't get vmaxx coilovers, the quality is just not there. I hear lots of stories of the shocks blowing within a few thousand miles. The best Street coilovers on the market at the moment are Feal 441 and Chikara CP1 imo.

I've been heavily considering getting a miata for a fun car. However I'm 6'3" and weigh 190 pounds. What are these "tall person modifications"? Also, what are some problems to look out for with these cars? For example are certain years or sections of the car know to rust heavily, or is there some high mileage maintenance that some owners will not do that leads to heavy repair later?

Just wanna post mine. Was hanging around with my friend who has a 2013 Mustang 5.0 this night. He liked how "open" the Miata felt. The 5.0 was ok but had too much power to have fun with and felt fat and was hard to see out of. I also drag races him and of course lost lol.

Nb1 1.8 is drinking coolant but is not over heating or anything, slight white smoke but I think that's just water from it being sat in the rain for days/weeks at a time... Is my head gasket blown?
>>
>>16406248
Yeah it is. Run a bottle of head gasket leak fix. Follow the instructions TO THE LETTER and it might just save your engine
>>
>>16406254
Fuck, should I just replace the gasket or is it pointless if the head turns out to be warped too? I've been told liquid gasket Fucks with heater matrix and blocks other shit too so I'd rather avoid additional problems in the future

a miata is no worse in the rain than any other car. stick to all seasons instead of summer tires and you'll be completely fine.

for what it's worth, i run yoko s-drives which are summer tires year round and I've used them in the rain multiple times and haven't noticed an ounce of loss in traction ever
>>
>>16408294
Mate, I live in Costa Rica and daily my miata. We get 10-14 inches of rain a month most of the year. You'll do fine, trust me. Just make sure the roof seals are in good condition and you're golden. If you get a hardtop with good seals, even better

S.drives are meme tier shit

Not enough grip in dry, overheat easily, poor wet performance when worn, loud when worn, overpriced

But! You can get them in almost any size....
>>
What do I get if I want a Miata but am too big to fit?

Before you say mods, I'm 6'8", not fat though.

What are my best alternatives? Like the compact size, relative reliability, and agility. It needs to be a solid step up in terms of interior space (actually significantly bigger inside) without losing that small, spirited, agile driving experience...basically I want to feel like the car has the same dimensions as a Miata while still being able to accomodate my NBA star frame.

I ain't broke but I ain't rich either. Wary of German reliability but I won't completely rule it out.

All are great matches for the Miata - if it weren't so hard to find a suitable manual transmission for them.

If your resources are that limited, you're probably better off with an n/a V6, or a boosted I4.

don't they also have some in the middle where the roof deck would usually be? when I was looking at their page it said distribution went from 53-47 FR to 55-45 FR. not that I know enough to be aware of the differences that would cause
>>
>>16423037
Corbeau Forza is a good budget one

>>16423125
The problem about weight distribution figures like that is that it says nothing about where that weight is located in the chassis. In a sports car, you want the weight centralized, near the center of gravity. This gives you quick turn in response and the ability to change direction rapidly, since the weight doesn't have a lot of inertia about its axis, its axis being the center of gravity

Having a ton of weight in front and behind the axles may yield the same weight distribution figures, however that weight is not centralized. The car will not be able to change direction quickly, and will probably plow through corners, dive under braking, that sort of thing.

Think of a car balanced on the end of a vertical pole, with the pole sticking up in the exact center of gravity. Both cars have 50:50 distribution, however one car has most of its weight in the middle of the car, and the other has more of its weight at the ends of the car.

Now imagine pushing on the quarter panel, trying to spin the car on this pole like a top. The car with centralized weight will be easier to push, even though both cars weigh the same hypothetically

Bride Low Max reps, I got mine for $200 a seat, and its held up well. I'm about 6'1" and fit in that seat with a helmet and the hardtop on without hitting the roof.

Now if you're looking at something with an FIA cert, Sparco Sprint V's are great seats. In either case, I hope you're slim. Buckets that fit in a Miata are few and far between, and pretty much none of them are wide.

Also, you can fab your own seat mounting by using some 3/8" steel bar and one of those universal side mount brackets that cost like $20 if you don't want to blow a shitton on garagestar brackets

I really didn't care for looks, I just got them because I needed a seat to pass the broomstick test. In my country you unfortunately don't have a lot of car parts available, so you have to work with what you can find.

If it were up to me, I'd spend a little more and get some sparcos, but shipping them over here would have cost me as much as the seat, and that's simply not justifiable.

Post the VIN in the VIN thread and get a report before you go. I found out after the fact that the faggot likely rolled back the odometer at some point. Other than that, just look for rust in the usual spots and check the undercarriage. Be careful not to confuse surface rust/corrosion with actual rust.
>>

One thing I would keep in mind is that while the NA styling is better, the NB really is much more suited for driving. I bought a NA and found out that many of the suspension modifications and engine modifications I wanted to make can't be done without chassis reinforcement mods or can't be done on a 1.6 Kinda lame. I think I am one of the few that would have preferred a NB

Hey all,

I live in IL and saw a really nice NA down in KY for $4,800. Sounds like a great deal! What should I do to go about checking it out/getting it? Drive with a friend down there and back or take a flight out and drive back?
>>
>>16432921
Well it happened again, 25 mins into drive home leave gas station started idling at 1500rpms, then when i got into boost it was just shaking and not boosting then one minute later it went back to 1000 rpm and started boosting again.
I guess ill take the turbo out this weekend and check the compressor wheel? Im 19 and dont have much experience with this but im guessing that's where to start.
>>
>>16434362
Also sometimes when im coming to a stop the car shakes and feels like its grinding, i read it could mean really worn brakes/damaged rotors but im not so sure its the breaks as sometimes it happens when im just slowing down in neutral without the breaks on.

I got mine for 900. The best way is to ask people to part theirs out on Craiglist or Facebook. Eventually you'll find a boomer or someone who's willing to part with theirs after they sell the car without it. Try Facebook Miata groups too. Lots of locals will sell on there since it's less sketchy than CL.

Kinda pricy but it's clean as hell man. I say do it.

Will be installing Jass Performance frame-rails, I.L motorsports differential bushings and AWR sway-bar mounts today. Also got the Jass Performance Type-R shift-knob yesterday and I must say I'm very impressed with the quality considering the price. Haven't tried yet but it seems that it will sit about a 1" lower than the stock knob.

Hey /mg/,

I posted a while back about my NB's ABS wheel speed sensor giving me problems.

I paid the fugging dealership ~$175 for a new one only for the asshole to call me a month later and tell me "lol factory doesn't make that part anymore" So I found an NC sensor at a scrapyard for 20 bucks and plugged it into my NB. The ABS light went off which is good, because it means the sensor itself works. The problem now is balancing the ABS and getting it to correctly read wheel speed and engage the ABS at the correct time.

Any advice?

That's not that far of a trip at all if you really think the car is a good option. Make sure to take it to get a pre-purchase inspection before you buy

NA, then build it to your specification.

its got the flip ups mang plus its probably the cheapest to insure even though you said cost isnt an issure, there aint nothing wrong with saving money.

How much should you pay for a reasonably good condition mx5/miata and for what year?

Realistically, could one be got for under 3-4K and not be a money pit and need a shit ton of money spent on it immediately.

And if I was to go for a rougher one, how much are they to put back to a reasonable standard?

What are the biggest faults with these cars, or costs that they 9/10 will incur?
>>
>>16440090
>How much should you pay for a reasonably good condition mx5/miata and for what year?
$3k
>Realistically, could one be got for under 3-4K and not be a money pit and need a shit ton of money spent on it immediately.
Yes. Follow routine maintenance and you're golden.
>And if I was to go for a rougher one, how much are they to put back to a reasonable standard?
Cheap as hell.
>What are the biggest faults with these cars, or costs that they 9/10 will incur?
Rear rocker rust.

Just got a 2006 NC 1.8L miata with 130K km. Body, plastics and seals are in perfect condition. Certified and documented maintenance every 20K km. No apparent problems during the test drive. Roof is showing some signs of aging but I'll get some fabric renewer.
What am I getting into? Why did I do it?

Find an NB wheel speed sensor from a different scrap car
>>
>>16440352
I bought a 2.0l 2006 two years ago.

- Clean your rain drains
- Watch for tears in the top near the straps that tuck the sides in (you can also unhook the straps from the frame)
- Check the oil regularly - some NC1 owners have reported sudden oil loss that blows the engine
>>
>>16440063
NB = ND is wrong. ND is better, NB sport is more fun

Hello /mg/ Christmas just passed and my granpapi just bought me a engine with a tranny, were both gonna install it in a couple days but i had no idea he was going to buy this "BP" i have no idea anything about it, or what year it came from because it has a 6 speed the ad he got it from said it was 95-01 but obviously those don't exist so any help to try and figure the year would be great so i know what kind of exhaust i need and clutch etc, i also would like to know if anyone knew if the 6 speed just bolts on? or would i need some modifications to my NA miata, i know that the 6 speed is garbage because the gear ratios but i'm just going to run without right now since granpapi bought it for me and my 5 speed is on 200k and grinding, i would eventually like to put a 5 speed back in it though.

ANY HELP would be appreciated.

Heres a link to the Ad he bought it from:

so I just rebuilt my buddies MSM, kit we got didnt come with a front main so we used the old one (yes im a cunt faggot idiot fail mechanic) I cant seem to find any how-to's on replacing it while the engine is in the car. c-can it be done? I-I don't wanna pull the engine =(
>>
>>16399078
Finally drove an ND today, it was bretty great. I'm glad it has lived up to the hype. ND>>>>>>NC imo
>>
>>16442099

Front oil seal? I've done it on an NA6 and it wasn't too bad. I didn't even have to remove the radiator although that is an option if you need the extra working room.
>>
>>16442042
6 speed is fine dude, it actually handles more torque too. There isn't anything particularly wrong with the gear ratios either. And yes it bolts on

Hey /mg/

Sorry if this is a dumb question but how much would you value a pretty much stock and fairly clean 97 m edition with 14xxxx miles that had a top end rebuild due to a head crack in 2012? Is the engine ever the same after the head blows?

Wondering if it's worth taking a three hour train ride to check out this car
>>
>>16440694
Can you elaborate point 2 please? Maybe post a pic?
>>
>>16443248
Miat prices vary by region look at nearby cities and price accordingly and three hours is pushing it for a craigslist buy at that point why not just rent a car and drive six fucking hours to buy one that isn't all fucked up?
>>
>>16443248
I mean if it's repaired correctly it's probably in better condition than stock. Its reliability hinges on the skill (or lack of) of the dude who fixed it, however. If you can verify that the headjob was done correctly then its fine.
