I know this is a bait thread, but what can I do to make my headlights brighter without being unsafe? I restored my headlight housings, but they are still utterly useless and dangerous at night. If it helps, I drive a fifth gen Prelude. If possible, I would rather avoid moving away from the stock housings / look since I try to avoid the ricer image.

That used to happen to me in my old work car, a 2009 Pontiac Vibe. The headlights were stock and not all that bright, but it constantly carried 400-500 lbs worth of tools and supplies, so after a few years it ended up with a reverse rake, which made the headlights aim way, way up.

Also, newer Tacomas, or at least the early 2010-ish ones, were good for that. They come from the factory with excessively bright low and high beams, no need to upgrade at all.

I was once driving with a co-worker, training them on the route with the Tacoma, going down the interstate, with a good 30-40 foot wide median between north and south bound traffic. Co worker was quite literally lightly retarded, and drove with high beams on if no one was in front of him. People going the other way, 40+ feet off to the side, were flashing him to turn his lights down. It was pretty good, even with just the stock lights.

I know that feel. I replaced my low beams with 6000K HID's and opposing cars still flash their shit at me - and I'm already lowered.

The factory headlights on my 2nd gen Ram are a joke. Pretty much dangerous at highway speeds. I just added obscene chinese "offroad" flood lights to the factory flood light slots though.

I got my headlights restored, holy shit now they look clean. Then I replaced every single bulb with a non utter shit tier LED replacement (I actually like the fast turn signal flashing) except my main headlights.

HID. Might need to do some custom work on the back of the headlight housing depending on your car. If you look here >>16381211 you can see that the back cap of the headlight where you mount the bulb had to be drilled for a 24mm hole so that the rubber seal of the HID-wiring can be taken advantage of, as the xenon bulb needs a ballast (original wiring --> connector wires --> ballast --> xenon-bulb wiring --> xenon bulb [for those who haven't dealt with HID before]).

For projector headlights you certainly want HID Xenon, because they are cheaper and have more light output than LED, also you won't run into problems with the CAN-bus when the ballast will correct for it, unlike cheap LED without CAN-bus decoding. Chinks will sell you a HID retrofit kit with bulbs and ballasts for $20 and they'll work. Bulbs are cheap, will retain the same initial light output point as halogen and will be guaranteed to work better in your projector housing than LED.
