Do folks designing the cars just look at this abominations and think "Splendid. It looks absolutely marvelous" and it makes to the production line?
These designs are one of the ugliest shits Ford managed to make since the Ka.
And it isn't just the Fiesta that bears this design. Focus, Mondeo, hell even the Mustang has this constipated look.

Right when I realized how bland and basic Jettas looked, the newer ones came out with a nice facelift.
Nissan has had some really nice, and really ugly designs (mid 2000's Maximas)

I actually like the Fiesta. Then again, I'm more of a form over function kind of guy, so I don't really care about looks. Sucks that murica' didn't get the 3-door ST or 1.0T Ecoboost. I'd take either of those.
