Wranglers are TRASH.

The resale value is absurd because normies love them, but all of then get beat to shit.

You get all of the horrible things that come with a truck: bad ride, loud, fuel inefficient, etc

But you don't get towing capacity, payload capacity, reliability, utility, or ANY of that other good stuff

Plus it's off road ability is a meme if it's anything but the Rubicon, and even then mods are required.

Gonna enjoy it until the new JP hits, and then dump it off on some Comancheclub member for down payment money. Hopefully my daily shitbox doesn't fly apart in the meantime and put the kibosh on that plan.

>>16350156
How much work you wanna do? Any of them. 2001 was the last year and most complete, with the fixed 0331 heads. Look up what the stamp notating that looks like. Absolutely fucking pristine ones are usually $3-4k, good ones hover around $2k. Price drops as the model year does until you start seeing pristine pre-97. There are no pristine Renix models left. Under $2k, you might be looking at minor body damage, faded paint, and maybe a saggy headliner. Not always. Interior trim is easy to fix, cheap replacements litter ebay. Gone are the days of 30 XJs to every junkyard, but there's still gonna be like ten of them.

Check for rust. Then check again.

Enjoy your XJ.

Wranglers were only good from 1996-2006 with the 4.0L 6cyl and a manual, 2d. After that the became pussy cars.

I hated Jeep Wranglers, a lot.

When I was 25 my richass parents found out my car had 210k miles and offered to buy me a new car. The Wrangler was the only car they would buy me in manual, so now I have an NA miata and a JK wrangler, the two gayest cars according to normal Americans.

But... Mine has the DOHC 3.6 Pentastar with "285" hp, and it's pretty quick (0-60 in 6.7s). I hated it for 2 years until I pulled the driver-aids fuse, and put on $150-worth of noise-making mods, now I'm okay with it. I average 21mpg, pretty much what my miata gets, and chicks like going to the beach with the top down. Here, have a vid of it:

https://youtu.be/F49-xHQnhkM?t=91

My '95 miata still is rated to tow more weight than my Wrangler lol...

why the fuck would you have to change a differential because of larger tires? and why would not doing so cause that kind of failure?
>>
>>16351368
Hes a jeep fag. He doesnt know better.
>>
>>16351368
-Larger-diameter tires supposedly help you climb over obstacles and conquer ruts (and look totally cool at the gym, bro).
-Larger tire diameter changes the final drive ratio requiring more power to accelerate the same amount.
-Changing the ratio of the front and rear differentials is a great way to compensate for this.
-I'm just saying that the picture above probably shows what happens when you either mismatch your axles and differential or install the differential incorrectly, hence why both of the axles appear to have simply slipped out of the diff.

>>16350014

I have an 06 soft top manual.

The clutch is shit, but I'm used to it so it's no problem for me.

The 4 wheel drive lever gets stuck pretty often and it makes this horrible screeching noise whenever I drive for about 10 mins until I can get it un-stuck.

The soft-top "roof" does not protect against the elements. when it rains or snows it gets in the car through gaps between the frame and the roof. Also rain will seep through the tarp.

Loud as fuck

Bumpy as fuck

Cold as fuck in the winter

The parking brake will get stuck every now and then which is a pain.

Only 29,000 miles :^)

But all in all it's pretty fun to drive around town especially in summer when you can take the doors off and stuff.
>>
>>16351630
>that many problems with only 29k miles

Holy shit, I was looking at jeeps a couple years ago as "fun, small 4wd cars that aren't 30 years old". Looked at TJs, but all I found were either beat to shit or horribly overpriced (~15k for a 20 y/o car with "few off-pavement miles"). The worst models were often "built" jeeps being hawked at used car dealers that tried to disguise obvious engine and brake issues by talking louder than the screeching and banging.

Settled on a 12 JK softtop manuel with 80k miles, and honestly had no problems. Loud and bumpy, but expected. No leaking, no gears sticking, no significant wear on the clutch, and reasonably capable off-road for a newish car under 20k.
>>
They were decent under AMC. The YJ was the last good Jeep.
>>
All jokes aside, how reliable is a 2012 and newer Wrangler, with the 3.6 V6? does anyone have any first-hand experience with their reliability? Any friends or family who have had issues or lack thereof? Honestly wondering because I'm considering buying one, but I've never really heard of any reliability issues apart from /o/ memes.
>>
>>16352930
It's fine. Better noise management than previous gens, gud engine, FCA fixed most of the issues with the earlier model year JKs. Most of the "heep" meme issues are usually unrelated to the drivetrain, which is solid. Issues are typically electrical (not a problem if you get base trim) and A/C compressor. Most other issues are usually when people put 36" swampers and 3" spacers on their vehicle without thinking about how this changes the stresses induced on the drive and suspension components.

Fun to drive at low speeds, not much worse in gas than a midsize truck/SUV. Probably a good buy at this point since they're old enough to get cheaper, but new enough to find with relatively little wear. Still too expensive for a 4 year old car, but if you want a small, solid axle 4x4 without a bed, this is kind of all you can buy in the US.

I do wish they were lighter like the older jeeps, but honestly, you can actually drive JKs at highway speeds without white knuckle driving, which actually helps keep it relatively useful. The Pentastar gives it enough kick to cruise fairly effortlessly at 65 mph.
>>
>>16352974
Can you elaborate on the electrical issues? When they occur, are they usually severe?
>>
You're a total faggot if you refuse a free car from your folks no matter what it is, let's be real.
