I'm buying a 1984 BMW 325e tomorrow.
What should I expect?
>muh 325i

Why not an i? Drive further until you find one.
>>16347192
Why not a big huge Holley carb?
>>16347198
Because you could spend your modding dollar on an i and have an even better car. 40hp difference stock for stock.
>>16347180
slow but torquey
a bit rusty.
source: my first car was a POS '86 325e
fun car to hoon around in.
pic related, the day I bought it.
>>16347192
no. put i head on e block.
>>16347222
The reading I've done has said that the blocks in the e and i are the same; the e just has a longer stroke, and thus 200cc more displacement. And that they make gobs of torque, which is good because the only manual transmission work I've ever done was on a wet clutch and I'm probably going to stall it 18 times on the way back home.
Dude said it has a cracked dash, but holy fuck it's a 30 year old E30. They've all got cracked dashes.
>>16347218
I'm hyped as fuck man.
>>163472444
>They've all got cracked dashes.
I know what you mean but surprisingly mine had a clean dash and all original interior. It was around 200k miles when I got it for $1500.
but if you do end up picking it up or any other E30 make sure to get on r3vlimited. Im sure you have heard of it, if you haven't its a E30 specific forum. Lots of helpful people on there.

I bought an '86 325e. If you're looking for an alright daily that you can improve over time, it's a good idea. But I can't recommend enough that you wait for a 325i, they're well worth it.
First car was 325e with 63,000miles on it. Pristine, no issues. Put a 3.73 rear end and a chip in and it was a fun car. Heard they can be money pit if they're beat to shit.

I think I've read a few threads there but I'll check it out for sure. This one has 180k but apparently the odometer isn't working (again, 30 year old car). I'm bringing $3300.

The ECU, LSD, intake, and injectors seem like good baseline mods. At this mileage that stuff is probably a good idea either way.
So excited.
>>16347180
Rust
Electrical problems
parts costing a shitload and hard to get
no power
over rated shitbox
Put the engine and running gear out of a e34 320i in it
>>16347180
lots of fun, god tier visibility.
>>16347180
You seem to to know what you're getting yourself into, and the car looks straight and most importantly original and complete
Sounds gud. Have fun making go fast
>>16348309
>Put the engine and running gear out of a e34 320i in it
Y THO.
>>16348333
so it isnt shit?
Do you not realise how fucking slow a 90kw from the factory 33 year old engine will be?
Jesus hahaha
>>16348339
the 325 eta was the economy version, low compression, long gearing etc. rev limiter at 4500 or 4700 I think
It was never supposed to be fast.
And how's the gutless 2 litre engine going to fix that?
You know you want to OP, you know you have to.
It's the only way.
>>16348349
>129kw
>in 1991
>gutless
u wot?
Just do a engine transplant
>>16348360
ah mate, they were 95kW out of the E34.
>>16348360
129*HP*
And no torque. NONE. An E30 320 is not faster than a 318.
The only good things about the 320 is it's smooth, reliable and it's less work to swap a 2.5 in a 320 than in a 318.
>>16348383
forgive me i know shit all about bimmers i just read of wikipedia and relaying memes from car shows
>>16348391
You know shit all about anything.
>>16348406
Camry is way more car for the money
