Someone dropped a pallet of trays from their taillift over the loading bay earlier today, blocking it. The reaction of everyone at the scene was to not do anything about it, so I had to step in and re-stack the trays onto the pallet, help shove the other pallets onto the tail lift, and then help wrap the first pallet so it could be lifted safely.
And all this was in aid of helping another trucker, who'd been sent to collect the trays WITHOUT A TAILLIFT. So they had to be loaded onto another truck with a lift, moved up onto the raised bit of the loading bay, and then loaded onto the correct truck from there.
And I think one of them hit one of the delivery vans as well.
And while we were DOING all this, a bread delivery nearly backed over the lot of us and had to be stopped from doing so.

We blew the diffs out of a tractor trying to spot a huge coil tubing reel a couple of months ago in a foot and a half of deep mud. What a shitshow. We ended up having to unpin and pull the trailer out with a Cat D6 dozer they had on site.

401ks are bullshit that don't work for the everyman. They were designed decades ago specifically for the benefit of high-earning executives, as a tax benefit of sorts. They were never intended to replace pensions, but corporations of course have almost entirely axed pensions and now tote 401ks as a 'retirement' plan. The limit to what you can put in each year is minimal, and they don't grow as well as a legitimate retirement investment account set up through a financial professional.

Depends on the company. Some places match 100% which is straght so if you put $100/wk from your paycheck into it, the company will put another $100 in.

I think I do 7% and Pepsi matches 50%. So if I get a $1000 paycheck for the week, $70 goes into the 401k and Pepsi adds another $35 so that's $105 that goes into the 401k. It's all managed by Fidelity Investments so I think they put it in stocks and bullshit and you can make interest or whatever on that but idk exactly what they do with it.

You are supposed to wait until you retire to withdraw it but you can take money out of it like a savings account before then if you need it. Only problem is the Gov't will tax you on it if you withdraw it before you retire. The 401k money isn't taxed like the rest of your paycheck so if yoy don't touch it until you retire it is a good way to save rather than getting the money in your paycheck instead, paying 30% income tax, and then putting it in your own savings account. I had a Cobra handheld CB in my garage in IL. I shoulda kept that. My dad did the HVAC at the Cobra plant for years and years and got some cool shit. I kept asking for a good radar detector but he wouldn't do it because he thought it would promote speeding.

It took almost 30 minutes to get a half cooked cheeseless cheeseburger but the Sunoco off exit 338 i40 in Tennessee has miles of parking and looks like it never have more than 10 trucks here at any time.

I drive regional. Expect to regularly work 12-14 hour days and only spend 6-8 hours actually driving. You spend a bunch of time at shippers and receivers loading and unloading. Sometimes I'll get decent runs where I mostly drive all day but it seems like every week I get sucked into Dallas at some point and once I'm there it's hard to get out, they pile on a bunch of shorter local runs. The benefits are I'm home every weekend and I go to a lot of the same shippers and cons so the familiarity makes things easier.

I did two runs for them these past days and I only spent about 30 minutes at each receiver. All I do is pull stickers off pallets. It's all loads from the DC to their stores, so I won't have to worry about getting stuck somewhere. Is the pay relatively good? Because I'll still be cpm but with more miles a week, not sure how you are.
