>have 4 speed diesel truck
>Suck on the highway, cruise at 55 at 2300rpm
>Redline is 3500
>Need an overdrive
>Options are a $3000 gear splitter, or a newer trans
>Buy a $600 5 speed that will be a direct replacement off Craigslist
>Take truck and trans to under the table country mechanic
>3 days later get a call saying he is done, but the trans doesn't go into reverse
>Has to take it back out and replace the synchro
FUCK
Anyone have similar stuff happen?
>>16339673
you got burned on a used trans.
not his fault.
>>16339673
>synchronized reverse
Why even bother?
>>16339680
Oh, didn't mean to say it's his fault. I'm just pissed that it'll take longer and be more expensive, when the dude who sold it said it was fine and ready to go
>>16339697
Cause 0.77 or so 5 gear ratio, man. I hate having only 4 gears
>>16339765
>buying something off craigslist and expecting it to be 100% legit.
not everyone on CL is a scumbag but they never tell you the full story
>>16339765
are you sure it's not just linkage? or does it grind when you try to move in reverse or try to put it in reverse?
>>16339774
I do tend to be happy-go-lucky about some stuff, but I didn't get any bad vibes from the seller, I think he just didn't know about it himself
>>16339802
Mechanic said that it just won't go in, and to not screw up the teeth it's best not to try to much. And apparently it's a common thing to happen
So, anyone else have similar things happen? Shop bills end up being higher than you thought? Etc?
