Does this mean I can get 200ft-lbs out of a Honda, and also a gratuitous gilmer drive?
shameless bump

Adds power, adds weight. Probably not much performance benefit, but you should get mileage

>get mileage
It will never pay for itself.

Might be good news for people who daily drive old hunks of steel getting 15 mpg though. Hypothetically if your daily commute is 30 miles each way and this thing doubles your fuel economy on such a distance because it's also plug-in, you can save up to a grand a year at $2/gal just on your way to work.
This makes a lot more sense than those "electric turbos" powered by a starter motor that has no chance of applying any sort of positive pressure even at idle.

If you keep the car for a lifetime, you have a chance to pay it off. However, if your batteries need replacement before the five year mark, there's a good chance you won't make money. Depends on the batteries though. Lead acid are cheap but heavy. Lithium ion stand a good chance of improving performance since they're light, but are expensive.
There's a bigger problem though. How much torque does this add again? And where does it add that torque? Have you ever sheared a crankshaft before? Guess what, you'll probably need a stronger crank with a modified noise to make this work. Better if you can intercept the driveshaft on an IRS car.
