So where's the first consumer truck with an electric prime mover? It seems obvious, hybrids like the Fisker Karma have all of the torque with a ICE range extender. A petroleum engine could run at a more sensible cycle to keep the batteries charged while electric motors do the heavy lifting.

Keep in mind electric motors have peak torque right down at 0 RPM, and it only goes down from there.
You might be able to replace Ford's dinky little engines with electric movers, but it's simply too expensive to replace the glorious Cummins turbo diesel with electric
It's heavier, more complicated, more expensive to do something an i6 turbo cummins can do for 500k miles without any major maintenance.

Via Motors and Wrightspeed.

It's about time, thanks for the link. My searches turned up nothing.

Already in production. Look up VIA Motors. One of the co-founders is Bob Lutz if that tells you anything.

>306ft/lbs of torque
Congrats that's the amount of torque from a 4.6 liter v8

did chebby let them use silverado body and frame? And does that mean GM might get to use their ideas in their own stuff?
>>16269123
Only if gm is interested. Which is slim. They made a hybrid truck line before. It got 1mpg better on EPA standards and performed worse in the real world.

You do know that they make electric motors with more torque, right?
You also know that a 4.6L v8 won't go 20 miles on 0 gallons of gas, right?

>Same peak torque and 30 less peak horsepower than the truck it's based on
>40 mile electric range; beyond that it's actually less efficient than a Silverado because the engine is converting mechanical power to electric and then back to mechanical and then still transferring it through a driveshaft
>Literally more than double the price
What's the fucking point? Why does this exist?
>>16269179
That engine will go 20 miles on 1 gallon. Which is like $2.50 right now.
>>16269179
For a 50 mile round trip:
>Hybrid
40 miles electric + 60 miles at 20 mpg = 3 gallons = $7.50
>Gasoline
100 miles at 24 MPG = 4.2 gallons = $10.50
>Total savings
$3 = 1.2 gallons = 0.12 gallons per mile = 0.083 miles per gallon

>made for in the city where you aren't traveling more than 40 miles anyway
>>16269339
>>16269390
>the gas only one gets better mileage for reasons
>it's all highway where the electric advantage isn't shown and the steady state performance of gas is. Then ignoring that the range extender isn't going to be running in a typical prime mover cycle because it's not even connected physically to the drivetrain.
Gas Fuel Economy
Miles Driven per Day 100
Gas Fuel Economy 30 mpg
400 miles per tank on top of 40 miles all electric. Your gasoline only factory truck cannot do this.
ICE fags confirmed for hating torque and good sense.
