Are Mercedes C-class W202's good cars worth owning?

I like that they have a pretty classic look despite being relatively recent mercs, the 2000's bugeye ones are ugly imo and anything newer than those is too rich for me.
>>
>>16256889

yeah they are. i had one and modded the shit out of it over the years, pretty easy to work on. get a c36 or c43. c230k is fun.
>>
They are great if they don't have rust problems. Just remember it's over 20 years old by now.
>>
I don't understand why people hate the looks of the 203. I think they still look slick.
>>
>>16258706

looks shitty imo. c55 is only good w203 because mercedes literally swapped the front out for the w209 clk front.
>>
>>16256889
Yeah, they are godlike.
>>
Didn't that norwegian tripcuck own one?

It's not only the looks it's Chrysler era shit

>>16258891
He sold it and moved on to a wagon. I did like his shitty aftermarket fog lights though

OP
LISTEN

a friend of mine owns one. they are okay cars, but the gas ones succle a lot of fuel, and they do make problems once in a hwile. if you dont care about how slow your car is, get a diesel W124. they dont use much more diesel than a modern car, and they are amazing to drive and own. pic related, mine.

also they look a lot better of course and are a lot more economical. more space inside as well, and cheaper.
>>
Has serious rust issues. Thank god fo dem plastic sills, otherwise 80% of them couldnt pass inspection (hides rust holes)
has retarded yearly changes so getting parts is a nightmare
interior got only worse with newer models (central locking is controlled by a single vacuum pump, which is very specific even by months, which also means that when the pump goes out you cant lock your doors. good jerb mercedes)
So much bushings, so much things to clank and to change!
a suspension arm literally broke off the body once
the shifter linkage goes to shit on all older mercs. i literally couldnt find 1st or 2nd gear on my sisters w202 diesel

has a solid engine

basically its a shitty, slower, infested with retarded ides on newer models version of the already questionable BMW E36. The E46 drops dukes all over it.
The early models are better before Chrysler got dragged in. Good luck finding those in good condition.
>>
Had a 95 c280 so no rust issues

>only worked right one week out of the 3 years i owned it
>everything electrical and vacuum-wise didn't work properly
>overheated all the damn time way past the red. Still kept on truckin though
>final straw is when transmission started to slip bad
>wiring harness is made of dust, throttle body took a crap and made everything go into limp mode, A replacement didn't help

Overall it never left me stranded and sure took a hell of a beating from a stupid teenager

>>overheated all the damn time way past the red. Still kept on truckin though
stupid fucking retard. in that case you turn the heat up completely and turn the vents to the inside off so it doesnt get too hot inside. it cools the engine basically instantly.
>>
>>16259113

lol you think I didn't do that? what is this amateur hour. I had to do that for 3 hours going up the garden state in 95 degree heat in dead traffic. I must of lost 10 pounds in sweat

I was not aware that I now own a wagon

I had a 1998 C240 from May 2013 to July 2016.

Pros;
>drivetrain is solid
>comfortable
>prices are very low these days
>numerous engines to choose from
>decent looking in the right color & facelifted

Cons;
>european models are very prone to rust due to experimental paint, salting during the winter and shoddy fitment of bumpers & trim
>electrics up to 1996 were made with biodegradable insulation, creating huge problems after some years
>they're old cars at this point, and will have old car problems

If you can get one that is rust free/nearly rust free and with an engine that produces more than 150hp you shouldn't worry too much - still, remember that its old and that problems will surely arrive. Rotted tubes, gaskets and seals, worn out bushings and bearings, tired water pump and more

I have one as a DD.
Superb car. Reliable, confortable, fun on snow (RWD), the ASR system works very well.

Im at 12.000KM on mine with NO issues except the brake switch known glitch (35$ at MB).

Rust is an issue, but i have only surface rust on mine and I don't plan on restoring it so I dont mind.

What price range are you looking at?

The C230K isnt expensive and the specs are not bad, it is a fast car.

Gas consumption is good too. On highway road at 120KM/H i average 7.9L/100
