Truckerfags, are Cummins ISX engines really the MIL-queens that everyone says they are?
anything that has an aftertreatment system can be a mil-queen
Nah, they ain't bad. You're thinking of International and the Maxxforce series.

The newer Maxxforce engines have fixed alot of the previous issues they had with complying to EPA emissions. EGR cooler updates and so on (reason they were MIL queens). the ISX has its share of issues that the Maxxforce doesnt. dealer tech for international
Detroit Diesel a best

Ahh okay.
When I googled it, it got corrected to Milk Queen.
And that lead to me going to some tranny's website where I found this picture.

Nowhere near as bad as Maxxforce.
But every fucking newer engine will throw codes for some bullshit with the DPF or whatever.
Older International and Detroit engines are incredible. Just make sure they have some oil and you will rarely get any CEL's unless something big goes wrong. And even then, you will probably feel the problem before the light comes on. New Detroits seem decent but it isn't quite the same (like everything else after the EPA raped them). I hear mixed things on Paccars, but it seems like most Paccar trucks come with a Cummins engine anyway. And the people who don't drive Volvos like to bitch about them, but the people that actually drive Volvos seem to love them.

60 series Detroits are probably one of the last really good highway diesels

And you also have to account for the lack of sensors in the pre-emissions engines. A lot of the time you get a CEL, it could just be a sensor failing and not an actual issue. When you only have a few basic sensors on the entire drivetrain, that is a lot less to go wrong.
I wish I had a pic of the fuse box and compartment with all the relays and shit on the newer Internationals. On the passenger side where the airbag would be in a car, you pull that cover off and it is such a clusterfuck of wires. These trucks don't even have a ton of options like some S63 AMG so idk where all the wires go. And mechanics fucking hate working on these electrical problems, especially since a decade ago trucks were all so easily serviced.
