my diesel won't start in anything colder than ~ 6c / 43f
it has glow plugs
i use diesel equipment at my job, mostly without glow plugs and they can regularly be started in freezing temperatures without aids
WHAT GIVES?
What car oppie?

Glow plugs are fucked/injection pressures low/rings worn and blowing all your compression into crankcase
>>16253409
AHAHAHHAHA
Diesel is cancer
>>16253409
Break out the multimeter and see if your glow controller is working, and measure the resistance of your glow plugs.

delica

yeah that's the most logical step
>>16253469
i figure it is the glow plug bus but my question is more why does it even need the plugs to start
>>16253482
Indirect injection needs to preheat the precombustion chamber on cold start, otherwise you'll have to crank the shit out of it to build enough heat from compression.

Some direct injection engines have glow plugs, too, for the same reason.
Lemme see if I can't find an image of that.

thankyou
babbies first diesel

>my question is more why does it even need the plugs to start
Because in diesel engines the fuel combusts because of high compression.
And a warm engine makes combustion easier.

It takes, a while, but it should start just by cranking.
On these engines the glowplugs make starting much quicker. But they are only an aid, not a requirement.
Try testing the glowplugs with a battery and a jumper cable. Run a cable from the negative post in the battery to the middle of the glow plug.
Then touch the top of the plug to the positive terminal. If the tip glows red then it works.
If they're fucked, get a new set.
You could also get a block heater.
Also, are you using the heater correctly?
You need to crank the engine the second the heater lamp switches off on the dashboard.

Here we go. Same principle.
Anyways, good luck and have fun with your QT Nippon van.

Get ready to remove the engine head if one of these fuckers snap when removing them
>>16253409
When's the last time you replaced the battery? Also you should check the glowplug controller to see if it is bad. Have you checked to see if you have a blown glowplug fuse?
this shit never fails
>>16254681
Either is TERRIBLE for engines

good job it doesn't run on ether then.
