Ford 1.0-litre Ecoboost 3 cylinder engine to get cylinder deactivation, improving fuel economy up to 6%. A 1.0-litre Fiesta Ecoboost gets 65.7mpg, a 6% improvement makes that 69.6mpg.
Is this a good move...? >VW

The system uses an offset crankshaft configuration and deliberately ‘unbalanced’ flywheel and pulley that counteract vibration. The new dual-mass flywheel and a vibration-damping clutch disc help neutralise engine oscillations when the engine is running on two cylinders, especially at lower revs, and enable a wider operating range.

oh wow,so it's finally getting the mpg's that have been possible on any shitty diesel that has been made in past 20 years just by driving carefully

how realistic is the 69.6mpg.

like could an average fuck obtain these numbers?
>>
>>16253013
No, they're only obtained in specially designed lab conditions.
>>
>>16253527
How though do they give the test driver sedatives and tranquilizers or something and add slack to the throttle
>>
>>16252868
OK, I laughed.
>>
>>16253536
They hook a vacuum line up to the exhaust, measure all the RPMs for a set period of time, then measure shit sucked out of the exhaust, and do some math to estimate how much fuel would be burned over a distance traveled.
Occasionally they drive around a track and see how their projections line up with track results.

Can't you fans just say neutered engine with a turbo?
>>
>>16252732

I believe Joseph Lucas developed that technology.

You gotta plan out the slowness.

What are you hauling in a van that you can do sanely with a 1L engine?

At least it's fun since you can floor it everywhere and still not be going that fast.

[Cannot divide by zero] mpg!

If it's Ford, they would over inflate the tires on the test car.

UKfag here, they don't.

Loads of them about, but they will struggle to top 50mpg on a run. Good little engines (when they aren't blowing themselves up due to coolant pipe failures) but those figures are pure fantasy in the real world.

Cylinder deactivation is a good move and improves engine longevity too if you drive a lot of consistent speed highway miles on cruise control. With adaptive cruise control, cylinder deactivation can be even better.
