It's a pretty great feel.

When test driving it I noticed that I could use a bit more head/thigh room because Miatas are pretty small and I'm a big guy 4u.

What should I do? Foamectomy? Smaller steering wheel? Thinner door panels?
>>
The needle moves up and down while idling. When i rev it up to 2k it still sounds like the engine rpm isnt staying stable. The movement is tiny but noticeable.

Before anyone asks, i have roamed half the internet for answers. I am having a repair manual shipped to help me out.

I even own a Crystal Blue one and can hardly tell them apart.

I want to buy a Miata, but I can't decide what model.
I really love the popups on the NA, but everyone says that NB is direct upgrade from NA and NB are more common so itll be easier to find good one and for less.
NC and ND are too expensive for me.
So should I get NB and learn to love it or fuck it and buy NA?
Also I'm 6'2.5ish and ofc I plan on removing the handles, sun visors and foam from drivers seat, but will I fit ok with these mods or I'll have to buy lower seats?

I gave the guy $3900. Some people told me that it's too much but then a lot of other people told me that $3k-$4k is a fair price for a good condition low miles NA without any rust.

It's some czech dude and he has a shit load of miatas but most of them have fucked up paint, dented, or minor rust and shit that hes selling between $1k-$2k. Tried to take pictures but it was raining.

I've got a question for you guys:

I'm currently planning to buy a Miata, but since I can't keep in a garage it's going to be parked outside. I live in a temperate climate zone, temperature varies from -5°C in the winter to 30°C in the summer, it also rains from time to time.

How bad a Miata (Na or NB) will rust in such weather conditions ?

Thanks.

You should probably research the car more before going to look at one/buy one.
The repainting is suspect, it may have been in an accident. Check panel gaps and make sure everything is straight.
Otherwise, besides the price being a bit on the high side (for the US at least), if everything checks out and it drives well, maybe. Never a good idea to buy the first car you look at, though.

yo is replacing the timing belt on a miata too hard for someone with little car knowledge? will I be able to do it fairly well with google + a bit of patience? Or should I let a professional do it as to not fuck everything up.

Do you know how a ratchet works?
Can you read instructions?

It's very easy and fuckups are hard to end catastrophically.

However, be very cautious with the crank bolt torque values if you're doing it on a 1.6/1.8.

Watch some vids, decide for yourself.

Alright guys I am bored of my miata . How hard is a LS1 swap?
>>
>>16246912
https://www.flyinmiata.com/V8/costsNA.php

Well here's the parts list, it's not exactly cheap

You don't need a v8 to have fun in this car, a snail is plenty

You only need about 184 hp to make a Miata have the same power to weight ratio as a MK4 Supra TT

Supra: 3450 lbs ÷ 276 hp = 12.5 hp/lb
Miata: 2300 lbs ÷ 184 hp = 12.5 hp/lb

And thats crank hp. That Boosty McGee guy above is making 300 wheel hp, which is like 350 crank hp. That's a power to weight ratio of 6.6 hp/lb. Stupid fast, more power than you need in a chassis this light. A V8 is making even more than that, with gobs of low end torque as well.
>>
>>16246860
its 300 wheel horse so more like triple the original hp
>>
is there any point of an automatic miata.

they are all cheaper and seem to be the least beat up
>>
>>16247350
6spd transmission swap, auto miats are usually fully loaded special packages too, so you can save money on the torsen, and jump straight into the transmission upgrade I guess.

Jam in a hydraulic brake and a better clutch while you are down there and you are prepped for more turbo power for not such a bad price but more work, and potential unreliability based on how good your work is.

Just ordered and OZ M244 center cap off eBay. Couldn't find any definite answers about whether they'd fit my turbos or not, so I figured I'd just buy one to find out. Should be here by Monday, and if it does fit, I'll end up buying 3 more. I need to go by the powder coating shop near my house and get a quote to have my wheels redone, too.

Also I think I'm having an issue with my crank pulley. It's making a kind of chatter noise, but I'll fix that in the spring I guess. I don't plan on putting a lot of mileage on the car before I put it away for the winter.

Where the car is now compared to when I started with a basic kit from begi 7 years ago is really amazing.

The first time around I was running 6 psi non intercooled with very few supporting mods and it was still way better than stock. Probably making around 150whp or less. Bolted an intercooler on it and upper boost to 10psi. Really getting fun now until my clutch started slipping.

Then I decided to pull the engine and upgrade to H beam connecting rods and got a valve job done on the head with viton valve seals. Added a new clutch, upped the boost to 15psi and holy fucking shit!

After a while it started feeling a little slow again so I upped it to 18psi and thats about all I feel is necessary.

With that much power, the car is awesome for roll ons but kinda hard to launch clean. It destroys almost everything from 20-100mph as long as I have the tires warmed up.

Pic is next to a 650whp tt 300zx, talk about fast!

Holy fucking shit br/o/s I am beyond ass blasted right now. The Massachusetts RMV is notorious for being a pain in the fucking ass but today just takes the cake. My fucking dealer signed the title with his name instead of the dealership/business name and those faggots are making me have him get a new reassignment form and re-sign it correctly.

Is there anything specifically about the components used in the Miata that make it good when it comes to handling or is that just mainly attributable to the profile of the vehicle? (small, light weight, low to the ground, etc..)

>50/50 weight distribution so it's pretty predictable
>low center of gravity

the things you mentioned definitely help though. 2200-2300 is pretty light. The only thing that the miata kinda fails at in the handling department is its lack of rigidity. But it's fixable.

That's a good question for the forums. If you do anything with the injectors, expect a solid decrease in MPG.

Also the tune is vital. Carpassionchannel had a boosted 1.6 miata that gets over 30 mpg cruising on the highway and made over 250 whp. My stock 1.8 doesn't even get that

Hey fags,

So when it comes to "mods", where should I start to look? I am not happy with the performance of my brakes so I am assuming I'll need new calipers, pads, rotors, and a good bleed, right? Maybe replace the brake lines as well?

My headlights are also shit and I noticed that they even dim a bit randomly while driving so I am assuming I'll need to get some upgraded bulbs and a new alternator?

Anything else worthwhile doing? My tires are shit so I'll get some snow tires.

Is there a de facto website Miata owners use? I know for my Ninja 250 it's ninja250.org which has extensive documentation for upgrades between the various generations but I can't find anything of the sort for Miatas. Even the few I can find, they largely exclude the early year NAs which is what I am looking for.
>>
I have a NA but it's very rusty and has some engine problems. I don't know if I should keep it (and repair over the next year) or just sell it. Is it worth it to repair - maybe the price gets higher in near future?
>>
>>16256290
>rusty NA
>price higher in the future

Not a chance buddy. The only value a NA has is the condition. You can literally find running NAs for sub $800 that are completely fine minus significant body rust
>>
>>16255998
Hey I was looking into some stuff that you already have. How bad is the maintenance on the poly bushings? I'm due to change mine soon and though about going poly. How often do you need to lube them up, how easy is it? Is the ride really that bad?

Also, did the frame rails make a significant difference? What about the delrin door blocks?
>>
>>16256268
The miata.net garage has some great articles, but most people on the forums there are fucking retarded. Grassroots motorsports has better forums.
>>
>>16256773
To be honest I've never re-greased my bushings. They make noise though. If you wanted to take the effort it would be wise to put zerk fittings in your control arms so if you need to grease the bushes you dont need to take your suspension apart.

As far as the ride, I can't say for certain since I put in stiff springs at the same time I did the bushings, but the ride is pretty harsh. I attribute it to the bushings mostly and I kinda wish I never went poly.

The door blocks did seem to reduce NVH a decent amount. I think a lot of people mistake that reduction as actual stiffening, but I dont think they do much in that regard. The frame rails on the other hand are awesome and would definitely recommend to any miata owner. The biggest difference I noticed was high speed bumps. Highway driving is a lot smoother. Just remember it's still a miata and it's not very stiff. Big bumps and potholes are still gonna be rough.
>>
>>16256290
what kind of engine problems? If it's small stuff, you could probably find a cheap miata with a blown motor (but with a rust free body) and throw your engine in

You could fix any oil leaks with the engine out
>>
>>16249294
My M244 came in today, and this thing is pretty fucking mint for $25. Hopefully I'll be able to test fit it tomorrow. Fingers crossed it fits.

Yes, I put a radiator from an automatic 1.6 into my manual 1.6. The radiator from an automatic Miata has a larger coolant capacity versus manual.

I just had to buy a $2 hose to connect the inlet and outlet fittings that would run coolant to the transmission in an auto Miata.

I wasn't going to pass up a barely used radiator for $40 + a hose.

So I'm really debating on buying this Miata. It's a 1 owner 1996 with 72k miles, fully loaded with leather and a hard top. Guy has a full set of service receipts that come with the car as well. He only wants $3800 after I negotiated him down, he's selling it because he's retiring to Florida (go figure).

The only issue is that it's red, aka the worst color for NAs. Is it worth even considering the car if I'm never going to be happy with the color?

>squishy brake pedal under anything more than light use
>lots of body roll
>thin tires
what should I dump money into first? I would normally go wheels/tires, but the body roll would only get worse.
>>
>>16260740
Change the brake fluid, I don't know what to get but I know that there are those that hardly compress or expand.
Get new swaybars, will reduce the body-roll a lot and make it feel more responsive.

I did it guys. My first car. 1993 Mazda Miata with 221k Miles. Paint is amazing for being older than me, only 1 ding and some chips. Soft top has rear glass, Top itself is nice and not torn or damaged, just a bit dirty. Rims need to go and tires need to be changed. Carpet is good. Overall for 2500$ I think I did well.
>>
>>16260601
Wtf dude buy that shit and then wrap it with all the money you saved
>>
>>16260740
Braided lines and good pads will make all the difference. Plus some hi temp brake fluid

Imo suspension should be upgraded before tires for the reason you mentioned. Grippy tires with stock suspension makes for some wild handling
>>
>>16261537
>221k miles
I always forget how big America is and the distances you have to travel
I've never even heard of a car with over 200k miles
>>
Anyone tried to incorporate their car into their homes or yards?
>>
>>16261597
that's less than 10k miles per year which isn't uncommon even on the small island i live on (uk)

Alright lads, I've spent all day driving around the new whip and I gotta say this is the most fun I've had in a car. I know the 1.6 NAs are supposed to be slow but I think my perception of speed is shit because of how many short shifting automatics I've driven in my life. You bang out second gear and you're going 60. Not bad

Help guyz

I'm attaching a new rear crossmember to the body in my 99 nb

What are the torque specs for the 4 nuts and the 2 frakenstien bolts? I'm batshit scared if it'll fall out on a pot hole or something
>>
>>16263519
Just follow the guide on miata.net and you should be fine. My cover was actually really fucking clean so I barely had to do anything. If your gasket is as bad as mine was, make sure you use something plastic to scrape it off the cover, just try not to get any bits of it in the engine.
>>
>>16263609
69-86 ft-lbs for the 4 bolts, 87-101 for the 2 nuts.

That is a pretty good deal and honestly. The later year NAs with the 1.8 are currently the best buy and most sought after, I think. I also think you are just being a faggot about the color. Red is completely fine. It's not my favorite color either but it isn't that big of a deal. You don't even have many other options so just re-spray it if you really want to although you would retain more value by just leaving it red.
>>

Probably the PPTF frame bolt or the upper front control arm.

This is what it looks like, it has a dent since something fell over on it in the garage, but other than that it's mint. 100% stock minus the chrome style bar that every old person adds to their Miata.

I guess I'll just live with it, I don't think I'll find one like this elsewhere.
