"Alphonse Needs A Job" Edition

I can't be assed to find the copypasta since archives and mobile don't get along.

>tfw not even 44tonnes

>Don't quit that retail job to pursue making much better money after two years of making your bones doing otr, transitioning to specialty hauling or local work once insurance rates for your ass go down, it just isn't worth it.

555-come-on-now.
>>
>>16217440
It's not that simple.

The jobs are being devalued more and more as time goes by. You can live in the cuckshed with dreams of buying your own truck but you still can never have a normal home life. Or you can do local and bust your ass for 10 years and try to get a nice local gig but those are getting more scarce uhless you play the corporate game perfectly and even then the money isn't nearly as good as it should be for somebody with years of experience in the trade.

There are so many shitty drivers in the industry now that they actually devalue the good ones.
>>
>>16217462
You live in Florida. It's a human cesspool. Of course everything is shit down there.
>>
>>16217488
The weather ain't bad. And if you aren't OTR then driving is all the same (minus a state income tax).

Seriously tho, fuck Alponse.

>I find it and report it to the ops manager

>he has a big rant about how nobody tells him anything and I should find the person who did it???
>truck ends up getting booked for next wednesday
>all yard operations and deliveries are fucked because this was also the only yard truck for nightshift to use, they're towing trailers around with forklifts

You can't honestly believe that sitting idly by with a shitty townie 9 to 5 job is better than at least trying to do something more fulfilling/profitable, even if the system is slanted against you.

Any truck fagging jobs that let me work 40 hours a week? I'm not really looking to work more a week unless its on occasions.
>>
>>16217547
i suppose you could break down a lot. but you best be expecting a 60-70 hr work week.
>>
>>16217498
That's when you rent a Penske truck. We had like 5 of them over the summer because shitty old trucks were breaking down and the cheap new Internationals they bought to replace them were breaking down too.

>>16217512
Ehh, pick your battles. If I could do it over again (assuming no $150k and 4yrs for college) I would get down on a better trade like specialty mechanic or HVAC.

>>16217547
Depends on the company and location. I mentioned in the last thread how the Coke plant near us is trying to keep their drivers around 40hrs since they started paying them hourly and don't want to pay OT. If they work a few 12hr days, they will just tell them to stay home Thurs and Friday. But with jobs like this if you are making hourly, you normally want those 50hrs a week at least since that is where you make the money.
>>
>>16217512
>>16217625
>>16217547
townie here. I pull 50-55 hour weeks consistently, paid by the hour. This may seem absurd given the company in this thread, but it's just too many hours to be at work. Fuck it. I miss so much social shit.

Plus because I start before, and finish after, business hours everyday, it's literally impossible to do like banking, specialty shopping, DMV stuff, etc.

I already made the mistake of working too much in my late teens/early 20s and missed some golden years when all my friends were still in town and fucking around in college.

>If I could do it over again (assuming no $150k and 4yrs for college) I would get down on a better trade like specialty mechanic or HVAC.

You can always add mechanic since you have CDL, or add any other trade. Adult education is a thing.
>>
>>16217670
I've been there with the 60hrs and I agree but that's why I would just take a personal day on a Monday like once a month.

And when you compare it to cuckshedding, they get a day or two a month to even be at home and see their family. Plus like I said before, most local jobs will be 50+ hrs a week. The companies pay a lot for equipment and trucks and they want them on the road for more than 6hrs a day. But if you ask around, you might find something. A lot of it is seasonal too where you may get 30hrs during the winter and 55hrs during the summer.

Flatbed usually has right around that many driving hours since you'll rarely break 2000 miles a week. Think of securement as exercise and line 4 isn't work anymore.

>>16217704
Old people need goods. That's a huge service industry supporting them and everyone around them, including construction, maintenance, healthcare, groundskeeping, automotive service, etc. Old folks don't go down to Florida broke, they're usually sitting on a few million to burn over a decade.

> Idiot leaves a bunch of shit behind, sic all the managers on him before going on break
> In at 5AM because black friday

I'm seriously considering ditching it for a driving job. 20k a year instead of 14-15, show up between 8 and 9, load the van and go, come back, load the van again, go again.
Fewer shithead customers, I get to blast metal in the van all day, much less walking.
Downside is that I know damn well that without me fighting entropy, the warehouse system would fall the fuck apart.

How does a trucker get into front office home every day type of work at the carrier they drive for? Is it seniority? Can I just ask?

I want to be home every day but still make ~$3,000 a month after taxes. My only experience is in trucking and I have a GED. What do? I don't want to be a local driver. Fuck that no life slave shit up at 5AM home by 8PM. I want a normal 9-5 office job that pays well.

How do I become a fleet manager or something?

How many of you are prepared for the inevitable cuckening that will occur when autonomous semi's arrive?

You have like 10 years if I had to guess.
>>
>>16223558
$65K at driving 2,500 miles a week. It'll probably be around $70-75K after accessory pay and stuff if you're flatbed.
>>
>>16223622
They are already here. Autonomous trucks still require a driver. Driverless trucks are a few decades away.

And even then, would people really buy them? 99% of the industry are <20 truck companies and 50% owner operator. I'd love to see a self tarping driverless flatbed truck though that was capable of doing spot market and not pre-defined routes. I'd get one of those. But these glorified cruise control trucks are a meme. No trucking company is going to buy a bunch of them. Look at the added costs of emissions trucks. I sat in a shop at least every 2-3 weeks when I drove a 2014 Freightshaker for a mega. I'm now O/O with a 2001 Kenworth and haven't had any breakdowns in almost 6 months. Now imagine the maintenance of autonomous technology. They can't even fucking work when the sun is shining on their sensors. Done killed 2 people already. They deserve to be sued for putting such trash software on the road.

If anything it makes me appreciate my car better. The seating position of a car just feels so much better (for doing car things). Think of it like wearing boots all day then putting on shoes. Pick one. Unless you're shelling out closer to $1/w for a pure sine wave 100% duty cycle medical grade inverter they're pretty much all consumable goods.

Get a UPS bank with a 300w charger. Look for any DC power supplies you can find for your shit. If you aren't blowing 40-70% of your power input on DC-AC-DC conversion you won't burn through your batteries as fast.

I have never seen an old Mercedes grocery van falling apart. Plenty of Ivecos with fucked suspension and automatic gearboxes, though.

Should run fine on a laptop, unless you bought a 'gaming' laptop that literally uses integrated graphics. It's a shallow sandbox game, not as shallow as some mobile casual game but not as deep as, say, Armored Core. Upgrade your ship, kill bigger bad guys, haul more loot, make more money.
Also seconding >>16234429, the soundtrack is 10/10 easily, and the game even allows you to specify your own music folders. After I beat the game I might play again with a folder full of space ambient tracks.

If you got that for that $570 price, not bad. The 950m will probably underwhelm you though, as even the 960m underperforms the desktop 750Ti. I had one and it was so-so. Outstanding for its price when I got it, but from a pure performance perspective it was nothing to be impressed by. Crank up textures and leave Anti-aliasing off and you should be fine. Would recommend leaving Tessellation off if it's supported at all, and leaving SSAO/HBAO on low or just plain SSAO.

how many bushels do those hold? also why doesnt the back one have a fifth wheel to hook another one?
>>
>>16244344
Hey wordpukebot.
>>
>>16244486
Google tells me about 2400 bushels, but idk if that's correct. I load by kg not bushels so i load about 45,000kg between the 2 trailers. The 2 trailers are slightly different in capacity but the reason there is only a 5th wheel on the lead is because you hit max gvw between the 2. Also in Canada generally 3 unit combinations (truck and 2 trailers) is all companies pull. Excluding companies that pull 3 pups such as ups/fedex.

From what I've seen in the field if technology has to step in to save your ass is when you get the phone call. I've either been lucky or I'm just better than all the electronic nannies they put in these things. Might even be a combination of both. Plan ahead of time look far far down the road look for potential hazards and always leave yourself an out, and On-Guard will be nothing more than dead weight on your truck.

If you make minimum wage as a trucker, you are literally working less than I do or work for a trash fire of a company. I average $17/hr. doing only 2200-2500 miles a week.
>>

Nearly all Australian driven Kenworths are assembled in Australia, no reason why they couldn't have the aero setup as the fiberglassing and sheetmetal work is done in Australia too.
I hardly ever see team drivers apart from the few pajeet's who do it. So I don't think there is much demand, and a lot of companies don't have mpg bonuses so it is always hammer down until it hits the limiter. Not much incentive to have good aero if they wont incentivize the drivers and try to jew the best mpg out of them.

>Australia is such a small country
It's just as large as CONUS, population is much smaller.
>>
>>16246818
I'm not murrican but last financial year I grossed 98k, I only go overnight about 2-3 times a week and get every weekend off. Average 50-60hrs week.

General freight is for plebs who want to stay poor, you have to specialize.

>mandatory if you intend to disconnect from a trailer.
Once they have to replace 4 sets of mud guards per truck once or more a month they seem to install them, well the mob I worked for did anyway.

I need suggestions for a good truck driving school in Texas. I don't want to get btfo by recruiters trying to swindle me with their OMG FREE/OMG PAID truck driving """""schools""""".
Also, how important is the location of the truck driving school/headquarters of the company you end up working for?
If I live in, say, Houston, and the company is headquartered in Dallas, am I going to have to go to Dallas all the time?
So many questions in this industry.

You're also stuck in the cuckshed for about 150hrs a week. That's why I think OTR really is bullshit unless you're making like $200k. If you count all that time as being stuck at work, you're making less than minimum wage.
>>
>>16248660
Unless your 'home' is the truck itself, hence the absurd longframe trucks, or YBJ's massive sleeper.

If you're single and don't run your affairs by mail and don't mind either living in a metal cuckshed or driving a motorhome with a trailer on the back, you're fine.
>>
>>16248672
But even if you don't mind living in a shed, you can't really do anything so you might as well be stuck at a shitty security job or something where you are stuck in a small room staring at a computer monitor. Yeah you can play vidya or talk on the phone, but you can't go far or see your friends and you are out of hours anyway so no driving.
>>

>>
>>16249548
We have the Port Consolidated fuel station right by our plant. Nobody actually working there, just like 5 diesel pumps and two gasoline pumps. They don't even have prices, it only shows you the gallons pumped.

They used to at least have trash cans there so you could throw all the empty bottles out but they took those away like a year ago so now drivers just leave their piss bottles on top of the pumps.

We have the Fuelman cards that work there. Not sure what other cards work there but the Fuelman cards don't work at too many places. Port and Chevron are the only ones I have used.

Eminem being a dipshit who was all starry-eyed about teaming with Whiney-kun after joining Swift. After we told him not to.
Whiney rejected him on account of either not being able to, or just not wanting to share his waifu.
He then went on to talk big about how much of a super awesome mega skilled trucker he was, and how he was the best ever at everything.

Then, as >>16250663 shows, he clipped a utility pole and pulled it down. Then Swift fired his ass shortly afterwards for bringing down power and phone service for blocks and costing them a shitton.
He tried to get hired on in another trucking job. Rejected rejected rejected.
Then talked big about he never wanted to be a trucker ANYWAY and was going to get a job as a groundskeeper at a golf course. Rejected again.
Then he quit posting.

I've got patellofemoral pain syndrome ("movie theater's knee") from sports and some past jobs that flares up sometimes.

If I'm wearing heavy boots while I drive it can hurt after 6 or so hours, but light tennis shoes pretty much solved that.

Also, for insurance, have advil on hand, stretch and walk religiously, and don't let the truck get too cold so your tendons aren't tight when you wake up.
