I want a Geo Metro as my first car but my parents said it's a bad idea
What do you think /o/?
Yeah it's a pretty bad idea when the lightest modern shitboxes weigh 1000lbs more. If you hit anything or anybody hits you, you're pretty much dead. Even a shopping cart will take you out in one of those.

>Parents think it's a bad idea
Fuck em. They're also probably telling you "go get a newer car and make payments" which is financially retarded unless you're making $30k+ and have few other expenses to deal with.
>>16215560
Are they paying for it? Cuz if they don't, tell them to get fucked and get the GOAT shitbox among shitboxes.
>>16215560
go for it

lol 3k civic + repairs (9k after repairs)
LMAO
Middle-class parents don't seem to like it when their kids buy reasonable cars.
My parents bought me a 2009 Cobalt for about 10k. When I wanted to learn to drive stick and buy my own manual car, I got a ZX2 SR in mint condition for 1500. They were bewildered why I would buy "an old shitheap" instead of sidegrading or upgrading.

Don't buy a broken one then
They are good cars and they will run a long time if you maintain them. Also parts are pretty cheap and they get great mileage. They are slow. Almost dangerously slow when you go to merge sometimes on fast interstates. But they get great mileage and if you live in a place without tons of mountians they are good. I wanted one for awhile. Still do. But I couldn't find one in good shape with a manual transmission when I was looking at getting another car.
