I'm still not used to meeting all these Hondafags. Ever since I got the thing they've just come out the woodwork offering to help me out with shit.

I've been keeping to myself for most of my life so it's hard to get used to. I feel like I'm annoying when I bother white coupe bro for advice about shit I can't fix. lel

Just wherever you go, or...? I know there's like two 7th gen Civics, two 6th gen sedans and a and a 5th gen sedan, an EK, 9th and 10th gen coupe, 9th sedan, an older and newer accord, and two CR-Vs on my block alone. Integras and EGs zip by now and then, and the 10th gen Civic, new Accord, new CR-V a few times as well.

>>16212489

The guy with the green coupe I met up with at the local park to pick up an OEM header. Told him I got it to go with my new exhaust and he offered to help me install it. Actually spotted his car on the road weeks before. Asked the guy with the white coupe I usually hang out with and he knew him.

I swear there's some kinda complex Hondafag network in my area.

>>
Okay here goes
Just before dinner I get a call from my cousin asking if I have tire changing tools. His friend wants to change his wheels. Fast forward lthorugh inana questions, and I say instead of worrying about tools I'll just do it myself. I ask what car and he says Dodge Charger. I figure sure from alloys to steelies sounds like a good /o/ fun before resuming food time. I pack up my lug cross, jack, ratchet set and multitool hoping it'll be like thirty minutes. We decided in the call to hang out in an indoor parking.

I get there first since they have to stop to get the wheels. So finally I see a black pre Fiat Charger roll up on aftermarket wheels. Black and milled silver wheels. Huge hip hop wheels. With lugnut covers. I didn't bring any hex screwdrivers so I asked the guy if he had one. He has one, but he left it at home. So first problem here is we cant get the covers off. Fine, we go into the store and he buys a screwdriver set for $10. Perfect hex fit and the covers come off.

Changing the wheel and everything goes smoothly, when I notice the car rocking back and forth. I don't like that so I ask my cousin's friend to put the parking brake on. The guy goes and turns on the engine so I tell him no and point to the foot parking brake. He pushes it to lock. Then he fucking pushes it further. Snap. Now the P brake has no weight when pushing outside of the ratchet.

Fuck.

pt2 soon
>>
Finish up the first wheel and have the car lowered. Im seriously hoping the P brake isn't left on when the cable went clunk. Working on the rear wheel, I open the rear brake and check if the P brake uses the piston like some cars do. It doesnt and I put the brakes together and continue with the wheels. Come to the final wheel, passenger side front, I let them jack it up to see what they've learned watching from me, especially since they're so eager to try. So as the twist on the jackto lift the car, it fucking falls back down. It turns out they used the plastic body skirt as reference instead of the frame. Fuck, if you want it done right, don't let others do it. Wrap up the job and it turns out he's got a faulty lugnut that just wont tighen. Every other nut is fine except this one, but the wheel wont budge so I consider it permissible, especially considering seeing a volvo drive with fucking 3. I ask to run a few tests and get the go ahead. Car moves fine in neutral with pushes so thank goodness the brakes disengaged and the wheels didn't fall off when I test drove a little bit. I did notice it pull to the right, though. After explaining the TPMS and CEL light the guy hands me $20 and thanks me. Before he drives off with my cousin, I ask him about that screwdriver he just bought and he said I could keep it. Nice.

A headache, midnight dinner, and raised blood pressure later, I now have gas cash and a neato screwdriver with interchangeable heads.
I seriously hope he gets that new lugnut.
>>
>>16216716
That car will probably roll without a nut forever to be honest. I had no idea those old Chargers were so finicky.

How long have you had the car?

My white coupe buddy had some title issues recently. His friend never got the title to him and left the state so he has about a month to reshell his car to keep it legal. Bought one from some Mexican for 200 bucks.

>those horribly misaligned stripes

Might be a good source for body bits for my hatch. The fenders specifically. Too bad the hood is fucked already.
>>
>>16217263
I bought it back in July of 2015. Before that I had done 1 oil change in my entire life. Went from 0-ricer in about a week haha.

whats wrong with your fenders? I need to fix mine. Might get some low profile flares for the front so I can run 255's or maybe something even wider to put the power down more better. It'll be hard to pull off flares without looking terrible, but I think it might be possible.

They're a little beat up. Could trade them with that coupe only if they look better than mine. Maybe the front bumper too but it'd need some paint work. Would be even more worth it if the paint matches the rest of the car. Could paint the hood black or something along with the roof and tailgate.

I picked mine up just one month before yours. Neat.

I'm slapping on a turbo kit on my B16 del slow, i have most parts gathered such as:

Turbo + ram horn manifold
Downpipe
Wastegate + pipe
Oil feed + return kit
intercooler piping

I still need
Upgraded clutch
Bigger injectors (450cc?)
Bigger fuel pump
BOV
Intercooler itself

Am i forgetting something? Anyone else here running a turbo B16/B18? Also, i'm on 15" right now, would it be better to get larger wheels or doesn't that matter?

>>
>>16218335
15"s are perfect for del sols
Is your internals forged? You will also need an ECU tune so you don't blow your shit up
>>
>>16218374
I have a tuner, my ecu is chipped with ECtune right now, i'll visit him when its together.

It's not forged, the block is stock. Should be fine for 7 psi.
>>
>>16218299
buy it and stance it, then post the progress pics to /o/
>>
>>16218292
>>16218288

They're going to be similar as far as boost goes. But the b18c1 is a little nicer because it has oil squirters and you have more torque to start with.

The b18c1 vs b18c1 with b16 head will yield similar results
>>
>>16218587
How many gainz should 7 psi be good for?
>>
>>16218916
my tuner told me we should see anything between 250 and 300 on the wheels.
>>
>>16218929
That'll be pretty spooky to drive fast, but that'll be fast nonetheless
>>
>>16218929
>>16218929

The PSI isn't what's really important here.
Also, wheel size isn't that important. What is your tire cross section? If you're running like 195's or something you might want to go for wider tires
>>
>>16219034
195/45
205/45 on 15" is pretty hard to find... i'd have to get some expensive wheels.
>>
>>16219316
Yeah but I use 195's on my car with about ~150-160 to the wheels and it's not enough

I think toyo makes 215/45/r15 if you want to stay low profile. But if you are shooting for actual performance you might want to think about your wheels and tires in depth. I'm sure you'll figure it out
>>
Considering picking up a S2K, is 142k too many miles if it's an '05? There aren't many great options around here and it's also suzuka blue like I want.
>>
>>16219481
how much dollars?

142k is getting up there, but for the right price I would buy it.

142/11 is roughly 13. so that's 13k miles they put on it per year meaning it was likely a heavily driven daily driver. It's probably at the point where bushings and other wear items are going to be needing replacement. It would need a full fluid servicing, a thorough check for rust, etc.

If you're competent and have the tools, it would be a top tier project car.
>>
>>16219481
I wouldnt do it

unless it was like 7k
>>
>>16219520
>>16219523
It's like 12.5k, I'd be using it as a daily as well. There are literally zero S2Ks around here for less than that price, and the ones with fewer miles are at least 8k more.

Found out I need a new steering rack just after quitting my newspaper job, to prevent any premature wear and tear on the car, and finding another job.

It's $1,500 to have the dealership fix it; the rack itself is $300 if I get the part myself, but I hardly have the time and money to get it done.

The current issue is power steering fluid is foaming out from the top and the pump whines when the reservoir is only 3/4 full; as long as I make sure the reservoir has fluid inside, I should be fine, for now.

How much does it cost to mount and balance them?
>>
>>16225217
Depends on where you go with them. They have the option to have them mailed to a place from a list and that'll tell you their installation fee.

>>16225310
Looks like everything together would be about $200 even, shipping to a distribution center and $11.40 per tire installation.

That sounds much better. I figured something was up when you were saying those crazy tire quotes.

I kind of want to go back to 13s for the cheap throw away tires. Store the 15s for special occasions.

The local shop was absurdly expensive, but those tires had a 90k mile/10 year warranty on them. I'll go with these ones anyways.

I was just looking at tires. But if there is one thing that I absolutely need, it's a foam Si wing. Or some door and rocker plastics.

I do have a nice surprise coming in a few days tho.
>>
>>16225572
>it's a foam Si wing.
Depending on how much you want this, there are EUDM wings out there, but I also have plants to mould my own, because FUCK THAT FOAM.
In all honestly unless you are making an 85 spec Si, I'd ignore it and get the mugen Si 86+ tail, cheaper, and much easier to find.

>Surprise in a few days
Fuck wish I would be here for it. I'm all about 85 CRX Si's

I'm running some sumitomos (Not sure which exactly) and I'll post them if I get the chance/ 13x5 stock 85 Si alloys
>>
>>16225595
Ehh, I've found a few that went for $80-$120 on redpepper. It's not an absolute need, but I'd like to buy one if there's one around because my current one is dry rotted and cracked. Do the '86 Mugen ones fit 85's?
>>
>>16225622
The only parts that don't transfer over AFAIK are the pigtails to wires*, and the body kit (~83-85 use the same DX bolt pattern for Si.) and (86-87) use a special kit that isn't quite the same, but isn't hard to put on.

*The largest PITA to owning an 85 Si is looking for Si parts. It's pretty much a 1.5i EUDM all around. I.e. it's an 85 DX with a sun roof, and fuel injection, with a bolt on foam wing.

December will be exhaust and shifter month. My front tires are starting to belt too so I think I'll try to get some 13s to use as delivery wheels. Save the Shingo wheels for special occasions. 13 inch tires are literally half the price.

Might see if my buddy will let me borrow the wheels and tires from my old Civic since it's technically a roller right now. Can let it roll on my current wheels until I get money together for my own 13s unless he wants to sell me those.

things are going to be escalating quite a bit over the next month or two in terms of parts acquisitions. If I can get all the parts ready to go in the next couple months, I'll just need a week off and i can throw it all together.
The next role that I'm being slotted for is basically a 24/7 position for the first year. I'm pretty good at managing my time, but I'm uncertain how it will affect my ability to wrench on the car. We'll see how things shake out though.

I'm a scrub but the fastest ones I've seen do a B20 turbo. Basically any B series is a good start. Never done it myself yet, though.
>>
>>16237238
B or K

If you want to go N/A I'd say go for a vtec B series or K, and stick towards the larger displacements. (B18, B20vtec, K24)

If you want to go turbo you can go for whatever you want, including cheaper non-vtec b series (b18b1 can be had for like 150-200)

Only thing I wouldn't do is turbo the B20.

Also lastly, you can go with D series + turbo. There's nothing wrong with D series, it just doesn't typically make as much power.

Expect pricing like this K >> B > D

This is all my opinion. I have something of similar vintage and went with the B18c1 and will eventually turbo to the point of making about 300 wheel. Also dont forget about transmission gearing. It makes a difference!
>>

Has anyone here with an 5 gen civic hatch, done the rear disk conversion? I've been doing a lot of reading, and I ended up going with Trailing Arms off of an EG sedan ,ex abs. haven't got around to installing them. probably this Sunday. Has anyone of you done this conversion?

>>
>>16243866
I haven't done it but a previous owner did an Integra GSR swap on mine before I bought it. Definitely worth it. Brakes better than my previous fifth gen sedan with rear drums.

That's what I'm hoping for, I can't stand servicing drums, they are just dreadful. I guess I'll take a couple pictures and what not
Also, from my readings, the gsr rear disk conversion uses the same pads, and rotors for any 5 gen civic with rear disks, lol
>>
>>16245056
If I remember yeah they do. I can't remember what pads I bought for mine. I'm already almost due for new front pads. Not getting those expensive EBCs again.
>>
>>16245094
My first thought was, get EBCs red, or Hawk pads. What's your personal opinion on them?
I've never used either of one. so I don't have any input.
>>
>>16245120
I used EBC greens all around on mine but they're like 60 bucks a set. They're pretty good but very very dusty. I put a lot of miles on so I'm probably gonna get cheap Duralasts.
>>
>>16245127
I've had some $40 (a set) Duralast pads front and rear last me for like 2 years. I've got these aftermarket wheels on my eg civic I just traded for. so I honestly wouldn't care so much for dust.

Soooo.... I teased that I might be getting "the deal of the century" on wednesday. I don't think it's quite deserving of the status anymore however.... I did buy it. Commencing dump.

It's a 1985 CRX Si that's been swapped with a B18a1. It has a pretty rare JDM steering wheel, coilover dampers in the rear, and an aftermarket carbon fiber hood.

I have basically all of the missing interior pieces in my basement.

It runs pretty god damn well already but I'm going to do a little refinement.

I paid $300 American.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgzEvlGC55g&feature=youtu.be
>>
>>16247927
a CAI by itself won't really do anything.

Weight reduction is the only thing you can do for cheap to get make your presumably d-series civic slightly faster
>>
>>16247927
You'd need a tune
>>
>>16247927

Understand that there's no 5 easy tips tuners don't want you to know.

Pretty much what >>16248025 was saying.

Add lightness.

Anything else is a waste of money unless it's forced induction or motor swap
>>
>>16248194
I find it more satisfying to make a car feel better to drive than just faster. Suspension, tires, etc.
>>
>>16248237
wat
Tires will make it faster.

But he was saying more pep in acceleration. Personally if you want something that handles really well, light cars are the goto anyway. I drive around with a full interior though.

Not trying to shit on you but I get tired of all the brz fags making 200 crank that spend thousands on coilovers and other suspension shit when you could take your lil D series under mild boost and roast them

I'm rambling a little here but OE suspension is actually pretty good. (usually)
>>
>>16248255
My OEM suspension was toast when I bought it. The old Civic felt better than the Corolla stock to stock though.

I could boost the D but I think I'd be better off putting money aside for a B and keeping the D as a mile eater. I'd love a B16A for that SiR experiece.
>>
>>16248265
Yeah I'm just saying for literally 85% of the people who are into cars, they are better served getting an OE replacement set of shocks/struts rather than going for konis or whatever.

Coilover dampers are only popular because ez to slam, but it's honestly uncomfortable and rides like shit half the time

>>16248268
Yeah that's understandable. They're also expensive as fuck too. I got lucky and found my setup used for a fraction.

Suspension doesn't seem as necessary in newer cars. Stock fills the wheel gap pretty well compared to the monster truck fitment of previous years.

Blown wheel bearing? Pretty weird noise.

Here's that busted flex plate. The outer part spins by itself separate from the middle part bolted to the engine. Pretty crazy.
>>
>>16249200
That's interesting as shit. Does it still run?
>>
>>16249806
It will with the new plate. It can't start until then since the starter only spins the outer plate and not the crankshaft.

Might see if I can keep the old one as a trophy. Kek
