Looking to buy my first car in Spring of next year after having driven around a Sorento that my parents bought me 4 years ago.
I want something sporty, manual, less than 150,000 miles and between the years 80 and 00, my budget is roughly $8000. Ideally I'd like a well taken care of Civic Si hatchback or Integra but they're always in horrible shape. Fieros are pretty abundant around where I live and I dig how they look, would a GT be a good pickup? There's an 86 GT with 73,000 miles on it for 4k on Craiglist around where I am, it looks pretty nice. Pic related is it

>paying money for a fiero
Why not get a turbo mr2?
They look cool, but are trash. 4k is a lot for an 80's shitbox.
Fieros are garbage
stay away unless its an 88 GT

The Fiero is less likely to kill you with snap oversteer. It's not a meme. The Fiero is 10 times more forgiving than an MR2. It's also easier to find, easier to work on since the body panels all unbolt, and infinitely safer since the chassis was way overengineered.
It's a beginner's MR car before moving onto more serious MR cars like the MR2. You don't immediately jump into a Dodge Viper for your first sportscar.

Avoid these cars.
That being said, snap oversteer is a meme. Driving any mid engines car at speed requires a better understanding of driving dynamics, such as avoiding lifting off the throttle as you enter the apex of a corner, which is what causes this. It doesn't just happen on its own.
A 60hp Fiat X1/9 can ruin your day if you don't understand this.

Fiero with a bodykit

those are both entry level shitbox tier MRs

The MR2's handling characteristics are closer to a Lotus or Ferrari than to a Corolla mainly because the MR2 got a bespoke platform.
The Fiero's chassis was a combination of other GM platforms. The front end came from the Chevrolet Chevette, meanwhile the rear suspension was taken from the front of the FWD A and W-body cars which is why engine swaps in the Fiero are so fucking easy. As a result, the Fiero is more likely to understeer than snap oversteer. This makes it safer and easier to drive especially as someone's first ever MR car.
Seriously. Don't talk about them when you've never driven either car.
