The problem is exacerbated stateside with the fact the hatchback was the worst-selling model behind the sedans and coupes. For a long time, there was a stigma against hatchbacks in America except among the young who weren't buying new cars. So when hondatards started coming about, they snapped up all the decent hatches and ruined them. sedans and coupes everywhere though.

These cars are made as good as they can be while still maintaining a healthy profit margin. Automakers skimp and compromise shit all the time.
If what you were saying is true, why would people be swapping rear axles in their F-bodies, for durability? Why would people build or swap 2JZ-GE cars? Why don't all Evos leave the factory with at least 500 hp?

That is fucking retarded, vehicles come horribly flawed from the factory literally all the goddamn time. Jeep guys have it the worst. When they buy one there is a two inch thick stack of papers labelled "shit you have to fix that the retarded engineers who designed this thing did before you can use it safely", the electrical system is the big one. What's wrong with modified?
>>
>>16195751
>mods don't match your tastes or are poorly done/shortcutted
>>
>>16193899
So what's wrong with replacing parts that are obviously half-assed due to bean-counting or poor engineering?

Examples: RB26's lack of variable valve timing, shitty oil pump gear design, restricted exhaust stock, extremely weak ceramic exhaust wheel in the turbo for R32/R33, the use of filament bulbs for interior lighting instead of LEDs, the lack of a dry sump lubrication system or a baffled oil pan stock, the lack of oil cooler, transmission cooler, and differential coolers were all areas where obvious improvement could be had.

Engineers are not perfect.
>>
>>16195768
fair enough, most of the cars I see are modded but fairly lightly and seem easy to circumvent and are generally cars that most people plan on modding as they have a very vast aftermarket.
>>
>>16195780
in my experience, most "modded" cars are fairly small things or easily changeable things. Most of them just slap a better intake and strut bar on it. Many of them will also give you the old stock parts with the car in case you want to revert.

>>
>>16196074
That's because really modifying cars is fucking expensive, and time consuming enough to leave you riding the bus if you don't have a second vehicle

Go ahead, take out your engine. Bore it, stroke it, and run a lot of fucking boost. The blower alone willv cost as much as another car, especially if you don't already have the plumbing for a turbo, or buy a brand new supercharger. Forged pistons and high-strength rods pile on another thousand.

If someone is driving around in a brand new subie I don't think they have the cash for any of that, back up shitbox/motorcycle included.
>>
>>16193051

>>
>>16192351
that's why every single corolla out there is running a 2zz instead of an extra detuned 1zz-fe. because every car is made the best it can be, not a profitable item to sell to a particular demographic. and manufacturers never make "starting points" to goad people into upgrading with a whole new vehicle and staying in the brand, ever.

newsflash: god-tier tuner cars don't start as shitboxes. they start as performance cars and are cheaper to modify as such. need a stronger transmission? no you don't, not outside of drag applications.

contrary to STI and GT86 driver dogma, ebay aftermarket turbo kits does not a tuner car make
>>
>>16196664
Right. This is what makes most new cars poor tuner cars.

So many of them can't handle more than 20-30% more power than stock before multiple parts of the drivetrain break.
Many can't even handle that much without needing a built engine.

Ah yes, the rotary expert engineers always come out of the woodwork to tell me what to do with my car. I am in the process of doing reliability mods, however the cooling is perfectly adequate at stock boost levels. The OEM wing is actually functional to an extent, and the FD without a wing looks stupid in my opinion.

Literally any remotely interesting 90s Japanese car. They're all been nigger riced to dead in my country. Unmodified ones are either in shitty condition or outrageously expensive

My barber has a stock red tt supra, i see him driving it around all the time. They are sexy af stock, not sure why people insist on putting shitty body kits and rims on them all.

Still a few stock type r around here. And I picked up a stock slightly broken ls with a 5spd for 2300 2 years ago. Only thing that is really annoying is they did a Mexican stereo install with all the wires taped. If you can't afford wire nuts or something just use the damn tape deck. Shit.

Have driven a stock r34 gtr, they are quite boring to be perfectly honest, with a few mods they are much nicer to drive on the street, theytake a while to spool up and come on power, quite a few of the cars in this thread ive driven stock, stock is nice but once you experience it you want more

Mine's pretty much bone-stock as well, all I've done to it is rip out the catalytic converter and put a downpipe in instead.

Gauges, radiator, new plugs, filters, and all that fun stuff finally coming over the winter.

Have had this thing for a few years, this pic's only a few months after purchase. Most of that time it spent parked at my parents' house while I was away at school (grandparents bought me a car out of high school, I talked them down to this from a new BMW - not the wisest choice but certainly $30-45k cheaper).

Despite all the apex seal memes and extra maintenance that has to be done on them, they're really fun cars. I've been afraid to modify it much beyond reliability shit because I don't want to ruin it.

Like, I have a new front clip for it that I bought a year or so ago that's been sitting in storage, still debating actually putting it on - it's not too ricey, was mostly intended to be able to get some foglights and a proper place to put a front license plate bracket without molesting the factory face. But, I haven't really wanted to put it on yet because I just love the way the fucking thing looks.
>>
>>16204683

Nice, thanks man, I agree. Yeah, I am planning to put in a downpipe and aluminium AST and vac lines eventually. Also I think that is a 99 spec front lip on there right? Are you putting on a 99 spec front clip?

The little lip on the bottom's on the Touring/R1/R2 models if I recall correctly, the '99 spec is the same as the ones on the Spirit Rs.

I bought a knockoff of this old Mazdaspeed bumper and was going to put it on, mostly just for the extra illumination as the stock bulbs (and housings) are kinda' shit. I liked it because it resembles the stock clip (a bit) and doesn't look too ricey.
