I'm still new at driving standard and I have an app that is configurable to be a shift light. It's default is 2000 RPM but my car doesn't sound too good when I try to do this. It's a little 4 cyl with a supercharger.
What would you think the best RPM limit is for a shift light? 2.5k? 4?
4/10 made me reply

5 speed, 2.0 LSJ Ion Redline
Looks like some of the cobalt SS people set their lights to about 5.5k. I have the same engine as them.

In city usage, you should shifting at about 2000-2500 rpm, ideally. If you cant pep up fast enough, shift at 3k most. For pulls, all the way to the redline.
I do this in my Mazdaspeed 3, the turbo starts to spool around 2500, so it helps a lot with economy. It's normal in most petrol/gas engines anyway to shift in the 2000-3000 rpm range. Any higher is asking for gas.
Also, a better technique so you don't have to stare at your tach is to shift when your engine becomes "busy". So your slowly revving up, pepping along, and you shift when the engine becomes noticeably loud from the inside. That should be around 2500 rpm.

Shift at 1500 or you risk engine failure.
