Is it possible to get this engine, within reason, to handle 800+ hp? As in:
>pull engine
>pistons, rods, bearings, etc
>proper fuel upgrades
>big ass turbo
>80-90's 300D Merc
Thanks! Not much info online and did a few diesel trucks, was wondering about merc diesels.

Bolt a truck turbo on and you're good to go.

Thanks. and just a note 48psi is nothing on a well done diesel. Truck tonight was running on 68lbs for 1450 whell tq.

diesels are fucking nuts
>>16185685
They are so awesome though. Cummins 6 cyl tonight on the Dyno did 800whp and 1450 wtq. His "race" tune gets it right to 2000wtq lol

was looking at their website about this car here: http://nordicboosted.com/gatebil/mercedes-w123-turbo-diesel-drift-machine/ incase anyone is also interested
Europe here.
800hp?
I don't think so. Thats crazy
200hp is around the max you should safely be aiming for.
You will need bigger elements for your pump, and to add a large Turbo and Intercooler.
The .950, .951, and .952 models of the engine have oil squirts on the bottom of the piston. You can put some more boost in these before melting the pistons.
When people modify the OM617 for big turbos, they are usually unopened and still with all factory internal parts.
No companies to my limited knowledge make performance parts for them. Only things like turbo kits, and modification of Injection Pumps.

opinion discarded

Ok, friend. As you were.
>>16185932
>diesel
>aiming for hp
>not simply building it as far as you can without caring about numbers and ripping skids with the silly torque
>>16185920
P much this, the most I've seen was 350hp out of the om617 and don't think it lived very long, especially since it was unopened with half a mill on the clock. 250hp should be safe on the stock internals, and that's what you'll have unless you fork up some serious dosh for someone to make you everything custom
Do as these guys
>>16185650
>>16185669
And go for the om606 if you want big numbers. Or 605 if you want big numbers and that 5 pot goodness
>>16186215
Or do the unmentionable (yes this is a yanmar 4.2 in a bmw)
>>16186745
That's just not right. And if you ask me the whole superturbo attraction comes from the fact that the old diesel mercs were designed just for taxi drivers who don't want to stop every decade, performance wasn't even considered. And yet all you need is a big tarbo and a pump and only pic related can even compete

750nm on 0.8 bar (11psi-ish), and it can take 3+. Well, for a while anyways. I could tolerate the heresy. :)
Don't worry, the tuner (Jonus) still got love for the OM605 and 606's.

P noice desu. Every time these things come up I can't help thinking what a chance merc missed when they could've shoved huge turbos on bare bones w123, 124 or 201 diesels, hopefully finding enough extra shit to leave out to make their price point low enough for someone under 50 to buy one. Could've had a generation of euro diesel muscle that could've led to god knows what greatness.
Like every time a light turns green on the whole continent a merc or two popping wheelies and disappearing into their cop proof cloud of powersmoke. I'd quite like that
