I'm looking at an ad for a mitsubishi gto (dodge stealth). It says 5 speed, dohc. Is it safe to assume it's an NA engine?

I know there's like 4 versions of this car, idek what I'm looking at. Pic unrelated

>SOHC 12v V6
>119 kW (162 PS; 160 hp) at 5500 rpm
>250 N·m (184 lb·ft) at 4000 rpm
It is very safe to assume it is NA because it is a dodge stealth, not a GTO.
>>
>>16168293
unless it is a stealth R/T,

>DOHC 24v V6

I guess the guy knows at least it's a dohc, but doesn't know it's the r/t, which from basic research tells me that's what I want.

Or do I keep looking for the actual gto and not the captive import?
>>
>>16168355
i promise you, if the car was an R/T you would know, as well as the guy selling it. That would add too much value to just not know. unless you are just that lucky that you ran into a guy who knows absolutely jack shit about his car, which is completely possible, but not likely.

I think you've got the DOHC Stealth, and thats it, and that isnt all that bad.
>>
>>16168366
Oh ok see that's where I got confused. I thought the r/t was the only dohc stealth.

So there's the base sohc, then dohc, then r/t, then there's a twin turbo right? Or something like that. NA dohc is all I do want anyways

If It was just the hood or the bumper I would say go for it. But look at the fucking thing. See how the bumper is skewed to the side and the lights are out of kink? That means bent frame. That means fucked front suspension. And you can literally see the radiator shoved down and crushed in. "Radiator problems" my ass.

The thing is a total writeoff for anything less than a demolition derby. Even a pro shop would basically just be cutting off everything in front of the fenders and replacing it. That's 5-6k worth of work with parts. That car is only good for a parts car now, and the owner knows it.
>>
>>16168516

Only in America there are FWD GTOs...

Here's a recap:

Dodge stealth
>es (FWD SOHC)
>R/T (FWD DOHC but fun as fuck)
>R/T TT (the vr4s ugly sister)

US spec GTO (3000GT)

>Base '97-'99 (FWD SOHC)
>Base '90-'96 (FWD DOHC optional LSD)
>SL (FWD DOHC, ECS, Active exhaust, LSD)
>VR4 (AWD DOHC Twin Turbo, same as GTO TT, comfort and performance in mind, hence the weight)

All GTOs are AWD.

>Base GTO (AWD)
>GTO SR (lightweight AWD n/a)
>GTO TT (basically the comfy and quick as fuck vr4, but also the heaviest)
>GTO MR (this is the god tier GTO, light and quick as fuck, also 6pot calipers)

I would get an N/A 3000GT because they are comfy and sexy as fuck, it's the an ideal DD.

So I'm planning on buying an E92 335i and after excluding things that don't meet my criteria of manual, RWD, N55 (or is), M sport and preferably leather seats, I'm not left with much option with color choice and the most common color for this car is white.

Anyway my question; how concerned should I be over the white yellowing? I see even relatively modern cars with white paint that's yellowing and it looks awful. Any car I'd buy would be 3-5 years old and I'd probably hold onto it for 5 years if this helps at all.

Depending on the year, its likely you'll be able to have the car serviced at any GM dealership as they retain control of spare parts, in much the same way they do for saturn or hummer.

Pre-GM saabs may or may not have problems sourcing parts but many OEM manufacturers may still have said parts in stock.

Being a ranger it'll also be rusty as fuck so penetrating oil isn't a bad idea either.

Went for a short drive last night and my battery light on my dash came on, at the same time, the volt meter started reading above the max line. After I parked my car, what I'm assuming was the alternator belt started squeaking for a bit then stopped. Went to start my car this morning and it was completely dead. Is my alternator kill? Pull alternator and take it to your local vatozone to get tested.

Do some research as to whether the voltage regulator can be removed. Not all alternators are built to replace them easily, you may have to have to replace the whole alternator.

I've been thinking of buying a project car
I'm a complete beginner and don't have a lot of background knowledge since I wasn't brought up around cars and it's a recent interest

I was going to get an old Corolla or something like that but I came across this bad boy.
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Subaru-Vortex-1985/SSE-AD-4185756/?Cr=0
Is this ok for a first time project car or would I be making a big mistake?
>>
What's a hot hatchback that will go fast and take me innawoods with awd? I'll probably sleep in the back at least 2 nights out of a 5 night trip, for instance.

I'm thinking Subaru outback but that's not super fast, however it checks every other box so I can't complain.

Want options are there? I can go up to 5 grand
>>
>>16176454
They made nice cars with a bit of personality. I heard GM put crappy engines in some though and idk about the Saabarus since they didn't sell them here.
Costs about the same as a Vovlo for maintenance.
Also the Aeros can go ridiculously fast
Not a bad option if you can find a good one
>>
>>16179574
If it doesn't go fast but fills all the other criteria, then buy it and make it go fast.

That being said you're going to find anything decent with AWD under 5grand
>>
>>16179648
you're not going to find*
>>
>>16179252
Dude that thing looks ancient, the company in question is probably out of business.
>>
>>16179648
Lel there's a Subaru turbo Baja near me if I bump up to 7k...i could be the proud owner of a genuine cuck (car+truck).

Although it is a truck... Thing and not a hatchback I could use it for what I want. What's good in the awd category?
>>
>>16179058
Look up your starter eye color and location
Find where that wire is cut and tired to alarm

That's probably the only thing you need to put back together. Unplug the rest and see if it starts
>>
>>16179252
Fucking everything is labeled. That's like ten minutes MAX. Two if you're smart.
>>
>>16179566
Seems Hella expensive for year, but then again idk kangaroo economy
>>
>>16179705
I don't have much to go off since there's only two of them being sold currently but you wouldn't spend much less than that for a running car
The other is 3.5k but in much better condition

NO. shocks do not support the weight of the vehicle, the leaf springs do. You can pull the shocks off without a jack

I've tried jumping my car multiple times now. It doesn't seem to hold a charge no matter how much I charge the battery. Alternator's fine, battery was just replaced, although it was sitting in a garage for a few months unused. The security system keeps coming on when I actually have the capability to crank. What do?

Miata, You'll actually be able to keep the skin on your hands when working on it, and can make it reasonably fast.

The only thing on that list that would take more than 10 minutes to fix yourself is the rack and pinion. It's not hard but depending on the rig could take a few days and get really messy.

Don't forget that in a DOHC you have to drive 2 cams, 4 total for a v6. Apparently from the math I've seen it adds up to a significant fuel cost over the lifetime of the vehicle, but >>16175556
is right about air flow ability. DOHC will generally always give you more power, but SOHC is easier to run. So the better question is, does the extra power you get from a DOHC offset the more difficult cam drive ability, much like a l4 tacoma vs the v6 tacoma which both get about the same mpg, but different power figures.
>>
>>16181897

>>16183186
is right about the plugs, but not just plugs but the coil packs too, I had an 05 expedition with the 5.4 and between 100-120k miles I had to replace all 8 coil packs, I should have just replaced all 8 when the first one went. Also, the 5.4's intake is renown for cracking at 140K+ miles, supposedly its an expensive fix so I ditched my expedition at 130k. Also don't forget to ask about the timing chain.
>>
>>16180949
Those are pretty good starter cars, FWD, kind of easy to fix. As for the paint, it depends on if you just want a shitty exterior paint job which is around 1000-2000$USD, a full paint job that gets inside the door jams and stuff would run probably closer to 4-5KUSD

I drive a 2011 Ford Police Interceptor. I wanna swap out the stock radio that came with it for a stereo from something like a Grand Marquis that ideally has the cd/tape combo like in pic related. I was gonna check out a pick and pull tomorrow and see if I can find one.

Will they be complicated to swap? it seems like I can pop the stereos out easily but am I gonna need extra wires to hook up or can I just swap and replug? from the exterior it seems like the police Crown Vics and Grand Marquis has roughly the same dashboard.
>>
>>16183247

2004 nissin murano "fully loaded" (aka all the fancy shit)
86k miles
Dealer wants 8.5k (edmunds says it's going for 8.4k)
I want 8-8.3k and can probably get it for that much
Would this be good?
I don't care about speed (it's 3.5l v6 is enough to pass people on the highway just fine)
my priorities in a car are: me fitting > reliability > mpg > good enough zoom zoom > aux port > anything else.

I've got the car in my driveway right now as part of the 24 hour test drive so I can quickly test some things out tomorrow before I have to take it back.
My mom will be buying the car, then I'll be paying her back. She will be paying for insurance and probably some repairs if needed, so she wants to get something from a reputable dealership.

Good choice? y/n
>>
>>16185805
oh and how hard do you guys think it would be to replace the radio with one with an aux port?
With my old explorer I'd just pop the bezel off and then it was like 3 screws and I could slide the radio out.

I can't get a straight answer through Google, does anyone know offhand: the dodge Caliber comes in fwd with awd capability? Or something like that.

I've only seen full awd listed in automatic, but some pages say it's only fwd, some say fwd with awd, some mention a r/t or srt4.

Pls /o/, set me straight
>>
>>16188097
>14" wheels

Thats why you can't find anything.
>>
>>16188217
Its either FWD or AWD, there's no such thing as 'AWD capability'

The confusion probably stems from how most FWD biased AWD acts, most system will send power to the rear in the event of slippage, and only then but you have no control of when it does that.

how to i get my fucking doors to quit rattling on the latches when going over bumps
I just redid the hinges and the doors close nicely, but they rattle now, like they're not making contact with the latch except to make an irritating rattling noise

Most used dealerships will, sure. Some new dealerships are touchy about it.

Serious question for you anons that are good with finances, would a bank give me an incredibly low interest loan for a car if I had all of the cash that the car costs (plus extra money) in savings?
Could I put it down as a 'credit-building' loan if so?
I'd like to keep 100% of the money for the loan in savings, to be automatically taken out every month for the payment, to build my credit for a while, instead of paying outright cash for the vehicle.
I hear this would also let me haggle the price a bit lower for the vehicle, since the dealership gets bonuses/incentives for getting people financed. (I posted the exact same text in a separate thread, just trying to get fairly quick and knowledgeable answers)
