I've wanted to do that but I don't have fog light add ons. I am getting new foglights, though. My local all-bases shoppe only has $50 fog lights and my mechanic quoted me $250 for some "really good" fog lights that most of his people mount into their sides.
He read off a bunch of numbers to me that I don't understand.

Advice pls?

I used to do it in my old I5 2010 S-10 (it was called a Colorado by then) but kept getting it stuck. It was nice to offroad if you had the traction and some chains. Otherwise, continuously getting stuck was an issue. I learned a lot on how not to get stuck because of the fear of getting stuck, though. I would recommend it to start with and maybe go with some friends.
Protip: rachet sets work OK for light towing out of ditches. They also snap at the felt and therefore do not kill people if they break. Use four at a time (minimum). You wouldn't be getting really stuck if you're offroading with a 2WD anyway.

Reminds me of my mechanic today who got a call. He's doing a $10 000 engine swap on some guy's Colorado I4 for V6.
I told him that I just bought a Ranger after thinking about putting a V8 in my Colorado and looking at the prices. Still, the I5 had a nice sound to it...

Is it an I4 or an I6? If I6, get a semi-hitch rack. Though, you can easily pull it off with an I4 still but slightly less safe due to muh weight distribution.
If I4, that sounds like a great idea. Have you already removed the back two seats? I would also recommend putting the rack on a hardtop and not the softtop (unless, of course, you live in a place where you don't actually need a hardtop)

Looks like a regular frame mounted pushbar you can get aftermarket (though due to the dullness, might be custom) with from tow hooks for general rigidity in bad situations.

curious as to why? My goal is to eventually be able to own both a nice off-road vehicle as well as a track car, a truck to pull both of those, and then a nice daily driver.

Also unless it's a law in your state, I'd take off the mud flaps. And why the side steps on such a small truck? If anything, get amps. Otherwise, nice pick up, anon.

side steps and mud flaps look cool to me.

Painfully obvious, no doubt, but The STI and the Tacoma are very similiar yet very different and for me the choice became extremely easy.

I live in Indiana, a 4 season state, so having the AWD/4WD is a must for a "car"guy. In the STI I could jet around the streets and have my literal way with traffic. I commute 27 miles each way from my home in the country sub-urbs to downtown indianapolis where I work. I could pass, block, switch lanes, blast through gaps, hit the county roads high-speed, 2 lane country roads like a GT TOUR and cruise city streets like miami vice, but years of Dodging pot-holes, dodging every single obstruction in the road, and the sheer damage shitty roads and conditions do to your DD over the years took its toll on my STI.

>pic related, daily driven, NEVER modified, 1 owner 152k when I traded in (got 8k).

Now with the TRD, ill literally drive right over a curb if I want to, cut through a corn field, monster truck over shit, bully my way through the traffic, jam snow or water and just bulldoze, all while retaining the 6 speed stick shift feel of being one with the car. IM going to make it my Street-trophy truck over time. IT will essentially do all the same things my STI was used for, but with far more durability and Strength. I use my shit and am not afraid what happens to it.

The Tacoma is hardcore man. Expensive, but very very capable. Would hate to scratch it up, though.

I tried to find an old-school Ball-in-liquid compass/level and there wasn't much to choose from. Digital likely out of my price range (would use that for a new, high-end-ish battery, which is important when you camp in remote places, at altitude, in cold climates. You wanna be sure you can leave if you must.)

I'm very envious. And yes, those wheels are just right.

Where are you taking (or have taken) it? Pics?

fucking SWEET. I've been looking for a heep like this for the past 3 months.
just spent $1250 on some 4inch larger duratrecs instead where i could've bought the local two throwout YJs and made them into one that's actually rideable. ah well - work ranger comes before fun jeep.
wouldn't hesitate to get an old 70s jeep in that condition, though. i'll keep looking for people to hopefully clear out their garages and find a commando or CJ to throw out for cheap. doesn't seem likely since am in canada ):

Upgraded coils?

In Toronto, we still have archaic streetcars
and are building more street car connexions
so if you dribe on the same tracks, the vibrations are absolutely horrendous. Not as bad as actual track dribing but the oscillations are actually maddening as it creates this one, unique sound.

take a piece of sheet metal to a welder that charges $60/hour. Get the dimensions made and install the large skid plate yourself.

Though, as much as I love knocking muh trucc out of gear with a really rough transmission hit, I know it's horrible for the thing. Watch out for differential hits. A moderate ding to it and you won't be able to actually dribe the thing due to gear impacts.
Armour yourself, anon.

Are you just going to disk it? That really shouldn't be expensive. The otherside is getting 2-4 inch larger tyres which should give you 1-2 inch lift. This is normally enough for larger rocky hits and doesn't take a toll on your suspension as a result. What tyres do you have on right now?

Skidplates can also get expensive and sectional skid plates (easier to place on and remove) are pretty expensive per piece due to individual cuts, bolts, and how no one gets them.
I'm looking at getting a giant piece of titanium shopped and moulded to just fit under my Rangercc in order to have a one piece, light skid plate. But that'd be in the range of around $600-$1000 which is actually more than a lift kit.

Speaking of which. Plans later this week: untorsion my front, level my back, put on those duratrecs for muh 2 inch lift simply from the tyres.

How would a Hummer H2 compare off road to a gasoline full size truck? I'm looking at going from a land barge sedan to a $20k or under truck. Been researching H2 and it's hard to find any honest discussion on them. I'm fully aware they don't compete with a jeep. But compared to a truck they are much shorter (shorter than my sedan even) have greater approach and departure angles, standard skid plates. Doesnt it seem like a bargain?

You mentioned that they don't compete with a Jeep. Why not get that one? Or a relatively cheaper Toyota or equivalent.
If you're dead-set on an SUV, anyway. But a standard cab truck does make a great offroader and easily customisable if you can consider it.

Why look at the H2 with all the available other options with so many more after-market customisations and possibilities?

Holy shit. I just realised that you were answering my question and not actually asking me about my tyres.
Yeah, if you had 26s or 28 summer tyres on, you might be able to get some extra inches by switching to 30or so. But 29 is already pushing it.

Remember that if you lift higher than 2 inches, you'll have to swap out the tyres. If you lift higher than 4 inches, you'll have to change maybe the differential and do some chassis modification. Then you'll be paying a bit more for gas mileage depending on the tyre and wheel samples.
It doesn't just stop with a lift kit.
>>
>>16165023
Because I like the land barge and v8 feels. My gf wants a jeep or a half ton Silverado, I like them too but not planning on owning one. My thinking is that this truck or h2 will get us started on camping and adventuring until she buys a Jeep/truck herself and then I go back to cars.

I'm not sure how much mods I'd do. I still want it daily drivable and it seems like the h2 has a lot already standard.
>>
>>16165054
Not really a classic land barge but I do know what you mean. If the continental is a land yacht, the H2 would be a land frigate. The width could be a small issue but not as much as the H1.
Have you considered old, practical Suburban, K5s, Ramchargers, and the lot? 2 door SUVs are sure as hell more comfier, reliable, and better offroaders. And for the price, you'll be able to fine a pristine one, too.

The benefit of these vehicles is that they'll also retain or increase their value 2-4 years down the line when you try to sell them (good luck wanting to let go of them!).

A modded old SUV has more driver engagement than modern SUVs. They're easier to mod and teach you about vehicles in general as well.

>>16165041
Changing differential? You mean gear ratio right?
Anyways when doing lifts the higher you go the more you have to do
Typical things are brake lines and drive shafts.
Sometimes you'll have to drop the tcase or transmission an inch or 2.
Gear ratios are optional but recommended due to bigger tires effectively changing the gearing of the truck so something along the limes of going from a 3.73 to a 4.10
On jeeps you'll run into issues with the slip yokes so an SYE kit is highly recommended.
Not to mention axles depending on the size of the tire. Dana 35 axles for example don't typically go well with 35" tires
>>
>>16165293
Wanted to give some more info on the truck and my general plans with it.
It's currently a 350 small block with th350 trans and np205
It comes with a rust free cab which I'm gonna swap over. Will take the old doors and either chop them down into half doors or use them as a base to build tube doors off of.
Will be doing an LS swap but getting rid of the EFI and running a carb setup because I'd rather rely on as little electronics as possible.
My buddy has a k20 he's Gona let me steal parts from I mostly plan on taking the axles which if I remember right are 5.13 gears and locked could be wrong on that though but still better than the stock ones.
Will be getting a 6 inch lift with 35s.
I have a buddy who is gonna paint the whole truck. Gonna paint the frame with bed liner, bottom 4 inches of the body will be bed liner as well, then the rest of the body will probably be a gloss black or gun metal grey. Interior of the cab will be bed liner as well then probably dynamat to hopefully keep it quiet in the cab.
Gonna pick up a Lund visor on eBay because I love how they look.
I know I'm probably forgetting a few things but that's the general idea of what I'm doing

Me again guess I should've clarified I've already looked at the truck, just won't have the money for a few weeks.
The truck has been sitting 5 years so I expect to be replacing quite a few things.
The extra cab in the deal is entirely rust free aside from a little spot on the back. The spare front clip is surface rusty but dent free and straight a good sand blasting and it'll be brand new
The frame is light surface rust and still looks factory fresh in some areas.
It hasn't seen the road in 10 years, guy I'm buying it off of is the 3rd owner he bought it back in 98.
I'm basically buying the truck for the clean frame and rust free cab. Almost everything else will be tossed or resold for what I can get.
I think I settled on a trans decision gonna use a GM nv4500 with advance adapters setups to mate it to an ls1 and adapters for an np205. Thankfully my buddy's truck I'm taking parts from is a 4 speed so I can grab the pedal setup.
How much should a used 350 th350 combo bring when I sell them? Looking to offset the cost of the LS and nv4500 combo as much as possible

Alright guys, yellow yj guy here, looking at winches and winch plates, the only compatible winch plate with my bumper is slightly raised and would put my winch covering about 2-3/5 of my grill. How much of a problem for air flow would this be. The jeep currently runs 180° 100% of the time, no matter where, on the trail in the moutains, desert, or traffic. Just don't want to be starving my little 4 cyl of fresh cool air.
>>
>>16167203
180 is actually on the very low side for jeeps, they usually run at 210 so knowing that I'm willing to bet you're ok. If the air flow was a huge issue you'd see a lot of fucked up wranglers from overheating
>>
>>16167222
Yeah I know new jks run waaaaay hot when they load them up, most guys have to get after market hoods to help the air flow. And yeah that's what I though, I knew this thing ran cool and clean but didn't want to risk it.

I'm not too familiar with the old GM frames, parts, chassis, etc so hopefully you will be able to get to the local classifieds and sell them to the people who would know or trade your stuff.

A K5 / K10 is a thing of beauty and will look forward to your creation in the next few months!

>>16167203
New Carb. New radiator? The YJs and TJs have a lot of space under the hood if they're only I4 so you could probably even fit an F-150 fan under the hood.
Head over to the scrapyard and see what kinds of coolants they have. But as the person said under you, 180 isn't that big of a deal. However, it might be later down the line...

Or move to Canada and we'll go snow hopping!

After that, you can either choose to hang around that group or just kinda disconnect yourself with the offroad normies.

Otherwise, search up government owned land that is flat or national parks without restriction signs and national parks that have large open pasteurs without ranger stations for more than 5mi between them.

Traildamage.com is my go to. But they only have a few states. I bought a few guides from the funtreks series off Amazon. Very useful.

>>16169819
I don't hunt. Not opposed, just haven't felt the desire. I do know there are lots of things to hunt here. Elk, deer, bear, mountain goat (*gasp*), bighorn sheep, critters and varmits of many shape and size. Can't help you with the specifics, unfortunately. GTS.

Ouray/Silverton is probably the best wheeling for vistas. But, there's wheeling all over the western half of the state.

Pic related is more at American Basin, Alpine Loop, Ouray-ish, CO. Possibly the most beautiful campsite I've employed in my life.

Oh don't worry. Level it a bit and you'll be able to keep up with the Jeeps on moderate trails.
What's the trim?

Tyres, skids, and potential lift is all you need, desu. Consider a camp cap if you're going out for more than a night

Awwww. You're missing out on the possible stick runs and back tracking desperation. Spearing frogs so you get some minor food to last you until you finally find a duck so you eat until you're full.

I mean, I guess we can stop at a diner too. Or bring our own food

Birds and fish as well. I'm told it is a sportsman's dream here. Though i suspect that could be said for much of Canada.

Much of the best wheeling is at or near treeline, so I'm not sure how that would affect your dietary options. I suspect they may be quite limited as little grows in the area just before the trees suffocate. If you've never been above treeline, it's eerily beautiful watching the plants get smaller, hardier, then almost mossy and primitive, then just gone. Then it's only rocks, snow and sky.

>>16169892
I'm a fucking idiot - you just mentioned that you had an FX in the above post. Factory skid plates are nice feature of the FXoffroad but don't line up well enough for you to drive through saplings or scrape a giant rock. They get caught under the plates quite often and you have to get a machete to unjam the vehicle (unless you want to rip open a plate or pipe).

Layer the plates over each other so that they slide smoothly under your vehicle. Then armour the differential. This should cost maximum $400 unless you're paying for a few welding hours (which you shouldn't if you have a good scrap steel place to shop you panels and drill the holes yourself into the plate)

I also wouldn't lift the ext. cab too high (no more than 4inches) because muh centre of balance. How are you lifting the back? Extra leaf? I find you don't even need to.

>>16169900
>>16169926
Nah but seriously. That's great. The best is if you're out for the past 6 hours with nothing to eat and you see some pheasants or wild turkeys. You don't even need to aim or react quickly since you can just walk up to them and break their necks.
O, Canada.

Nice to see there are a bunch of hares and wild open places. It looks like a wonderland for my long ext. cab Ranger since there isn't much rocking or mudding required in Colorado. Sand would be nice since I love jumping dunes but ah well.

It improves flex. The whole point of the sway bar is to reduce body roll by keeping the axle from rotating under the vehicle. On the jeep the front sway bar is just tww nuts you remove, push the sway bar out of the way, and done. The rear isn't as easily disconnected so I just removed it altogether. I doubt your truck has a rear sway bar though, most older trucks don't

Mine's 2010. However, you're right - it does not.
Mechanic quoted me $4500 to get the back leafs changed to coils with sway and upgrade the front coils. Maybe I'll do that later down the line but it seems highly not-worth.

Front sway bar is only annoying for drifting on ice and uneven crawl. I don't even know why people say "muh comforts" when talking about sways.
I'll look at how easily detachable and reattachable it is and see if it's worth fucking around. Do you ever pop it back in if you're doing city / long stretches of hwy dribing?

I wouldn't bother. Leaf rears are fine, especially on trucks. They are better at taking a load than coils are which is why trucks never really "upgraded" from them. You can change the leafs to a lighter spring pack with a helper spring or air bags if you want to soften the rear, I know my truck [2000 Ram 1500 with 2500 drivetrain] is stiff as fuck unless it's heavily loaded.

I always reconnect my front sway bar after I wheel, usually I hook my compressor up to start airing my tires back up and just do it while they are filling.

I place 4 cinderblocks in the back (200 lbs) in the winter for a bit better ride, more grip, and a few more MPGs and it works fine. But if I ever want to go deeper into the woods near my friends' ranches, I'll have to either get a Jeep or upgrade those springs to climb. The Jeep may actually start to be a bit more impractical since (not sure how much you know about Canada) driving 2-5 hours in a Jeep isn't the most efficient thing to do. And that's what one needs to do in order to go anywhere else in Canada.
Regardless, I never have much of a load since I don't do much construction or movement. I use my trucc for such niche purposes, springs might actually seem plausible down the line.
Though it's fine now.

I like how you can actually just reconnect and disconnect the sway bar when you want to. I'll consider that if it's not that difficult on the Rangercc.

Also. Nice wheels. How'd you get that dent in them!?
I have aluminium with a soft rim guard against larger rock hits. I always fear that a flying rock spur will dent my wheel. Gotta carry more!

If it's standing stable at 35, why would a one inch change require re-gearing? Unless you've already pushed it to the max and can feel the clunky feels that don't yet interfere?

Want an off roader. Keep leaning towards a 1st gen Tacoma. Not sure whether to get single cab, ext. cab, or crew cab.

I want a long wheelbase to be stable and for climbing, but want nimbleness like a lil Jeep. How likely will I regret my decision? Don't need much cargo space.

Then get a Jeep. If you're going to get a taco for the sole porpoise of offbroding, then the only answer is single cab bench seat. you can achieve a good wheelbase with this.
However, if you can find a rust free first gen 4runner, i'd get that instead. especially when you're talking about a dedicated offroader.

Personally, I have a trucc for work reasons and am looking into getting a heep of Heep parts to build into a Jeep. They all serve different needs and you'll need to pick and balance what you want in terms of:
>space
>power
>gas mileage
>ease of repair
>ease of combustibility / after market parts
>shuttling people around
>comfort
And finally: are you rocking, mudding, or trailing?

^ Big one, I LOVE that my Mercury Mountaineer has super soft plush IRS, plus with the tires aired down, it's a fucking cloud. Riding in my friends Toyota Pickup, it IS rough, so I'd like the biggest tires possbile to air down. Honestly the Mercury feels like a Rolls Royce after riding in the little pickups. I want wondering how to soften up the rear on Tacomas.

Will post pics. Thanks for any inputs and recommendatons. Honestly don't want a Jeep cause the trails here in So Cal are not technical at all. Like I said, I'd be through all kinds in a 2WD soccer mum SUV

I have a 1st gen. Can say it's easily a capable off-roader. The wheelbase is longer than a Jeep, yeah, but it's shorter than the later-gen tacomas and is about the same as a 4-door Jeep JK

The aftermarket is great, it's easy to work on, and it's got the reliability that you'd expect of an early 2000s Toyota. Biggest problem is frame rust, so I wouldn't recommend it if you live where it snows. Otherwise it's fine

NAICE. I haven't seen one of those in a while. As you mentioned, that thing looks (and apparently is) comfy as hell. The taco will be a literal tractor in comparison.
It's very difficult to soften up mid-sized truccs' asses since they have to make up for the load by using leaf springs. The Tacos have a nice hydraulic system in the back to make up for their lessened leaf design but it only helps with weight and doesn't make it any more comfortable (if you get one pre-2010, anyway). My Rangercc isn't comfortable but it gets the job done. You might want to consider this one, then.
Any of those mid-sized truccs should be able to take up to 31s. 3inch lift / level kit should cost you $500 at most which will allow you to fit up to 35s. Lifting it further costs around $1500 but lets you get into the higher ranges.
If a 4 door is necessary and you're often seating four people, then crew cab is your only option. However, if that's the case, then maybe a rugged, two door USV is your choice (especially with the cheap and durable V8s in the american SUVs).

4 door trucks have a downside to rough offroading but since you're not going to do much of that, then it looks like a Crew Cab trucc would be your best bet.
I would still highly recommend a 2 door SUV in 4x4, though. They're going to be cheaper and more reliable and that'd be great you have a daily so you don't have to worry about gas. they're also relatively easy to repair from all that engine space AND are reliable as shit. only issue is rust.

2door 4x4s are ultimate comfy for compact offroading camping needs.

(btw. if you get a jeep, it will make you WANT to do some technical trails. so you might not want to right now but...)

What are some other 4x4's you'd recommend? I don't like the Vitaras or Trackers or Sidekicks at all. What tire PSI would a mid size pickup air down to with 31" tires, while wheeling, before it becomes unsafe?

Another reason, as you see in the pic, a bunch of friends have the old Toyo Pickups and Tacomas. I do like the trucks a bunch. My dad has a CJ7 I could borrow if I wanted to do technical rocky trails in the mountains. Not really my thing, I like the trails inbetween wide open desert, as well as the wide open desert.

get an old SAS pickup. i have a single cab 4x4 tacoma and love it, but for the cost of a SAS conversion i could buy an old SAS pickup with gears, lockers, bigger tires and a mild lift.

As far as other recommendations go, Jeep TJs are cool, 4Runners are basically Tacomas without a bed, and most compact-midsize SUVs are okay.

I rarely air down unless I'm going into soft sand or long stretches of mud, but when I do it's usually around 20PSI, though I know of some guys that go down to 18 or 15, even

Also, are Taco's easy to regear? I love my brother's chevy 1500 with 4.10's. It accelerates super fast.

I'm afraid of the age. Can I take it to a mechanic and have him replace anything he thinks might go wrong? I've been stuck in Glamis in a sand rail that broke down. It's not fun. At all. No food, water, or communication. Stranded.

As light as it is, the 3.4 is plenty of power, but if you want to re-gear I'm sure its pretty straightforward. I'm not too sure though, since i don't know too many people who have re-geared a 1st gen

When you're serious of buying, post up some kijiji / craigslist prospects and we'll rate them based on price and quality. I could tell you to look into 80s G-Wagons or CJ-5s but those are pretty damn rare that they're not worth mentioning.
That being said. Luck to you, anon!

>>16178268
For your purpose (and self admittingly), it doesn't look like you even need a dedicated offroader. Hell, my BMW X3 can probably do what your Mercury does (if only a slight bumper damage didn't cost $900 to fix). Looks like practicality is what you need more than "function".

Define "unsafe"? The first thing I do when dangerously stuck is start it in second gear. Then I get some sticks and shit and see if I can increase traction a bit. Then I bring traction down even more by releasing tyre pressure from 35+ to around 30. Then driving around at 5 below manufacture recommended isn't that big of a deal.
Of course, it depends on your treads and tyres in general.

>>16178268

ALright awesome. And how many miles are sorta too many? I know people seem to exaggerate about these damn things. Especially when ones in my area have 220,000 miles and they still want $8,000 for a 14 year old lil truck.

Mine is an '03 with 170,000 miles. So far it's in very good shape, so I'd say depending on the cost you'll be fine with anything 200,000 and under, though I've seen these trucks go 500+ sometimes if they're treated nicely

Alright. And you're the infamous Tay swif person, I see. I will come back to /offroad general/ after I start my new job, and have the cash for purchase. I'll keep an open mind.

I want function, cause I can't crawl up certain hills without lots of momentum, but yeah.

Mileage doesn't mean much when it comes to the larger vehicles with mildly indestructible systems. This goes with most dedicated offroaders and old import taxi-models.

Going on mileage for each, individual vehicle, this is a very good way to tell: Over the course of two weeks, search daily for new vehicles and organise the search result by decreasing mileage. Most vehicles with many hits of 300 000 + miles are good bets.
Tacos fall in this. So do Rangers, K5s, Broncos, all Wranglers pre-TJ, 4runners, etc. The other benefit of these vehicles is that they're easily swapped for brand-compatible transmissions and engine systems.

>>16178469
>crawling
>momentum
Hmmm? If a hill is too steep, you'd never want to gain huge momentum in a top heavy vehicle to climb a dirt hill. If it's really steep, you can hit an invisible angle and cause a backwards fall and flip your vehicle. If it's a minor steep, you would want to feel a lot of the bumps before they hit your back tyres.
I've seen too many times where someone goes quickly up a hill and doesn't control their turning so that they lose control and veer horizontally towards the hill. Luckily, they all managed to just drive down the hill instead of stopping (and subsequently rolling on their side down the hill).

Though, you mentioned 2WD so I can't imagine the hills to be THAT steep. Hills and momentum are not a good combination (normally).

Nice! Have a good night, anon ^__^

5 under is reasonably safe. just don't do it every day and at that point, find a station to pump up so you don't get punctures off the road (that become more likely). 12V air pumps are like angel's ejaculate when trailing, btw.

well it has no shortage of power and torque to turn whatever I put on it but it's at the point where if I lay into it on the highway it's downshifting more and taking longer to get into the power than it used to. it's bearable as it is but I'm figuring if I go any taller 4.10s won't be a bad idea to ensure adequate power readily available when I'm getting into anything steep.

But seriously, even if you keep them at 34s, that would be a good idea in order to maximise your output (as you put it). Have you just put it off due to time / money / resources?
If so, I can respect that since I've needed to change my front differential oil for the past 5000klicks but don't have the specialised rachet set and don't want to go to the mech for something seemingly so easy.

If you're talking to me, I just haven't regeared because I haven't really felt the need to yet, if I do I'm likely going to stick with the Toyo Open Country R/T I'm on now. I'm currently on a 35x12.50R20 on a 20x9 but may go to a 37x13.50R22 on the same wheel in 22x10. I dunno. We'll see once I actually get the lift installed. Regarding the gearing - that's very fair. Personally, even if you go up one more inch (so two), the gear conversion would probably be worth the money if it's your daily.

WEW. Moar power to the drifts!! Does your F-150 have emergency brakes or do you have to do the weight shifting that we Ameri-truccs do in order to drift effectively?

I've got three other vehicles so technically the truck isn't the daily but it's still my favorite and I drive it more often than I should. if I stay on 35s I'm probably going to keep my 3.73s but any bigger than that, I'll re-gear. I decided to lift it because the coilovers I'm on right now are maxed out, which is pretty hard on the front axles and ball joints, and I still have some rubbing under the right conditions. so going to a legit lift will straighten out all of the shitty angles and give me more room to flex, so it's a win-win. not to mention I've already bent a driveshaft on a rock once and the drive home was unpleasant.

as far as drifting it goes, I'm making 540 ft-lbs at the wheels so I can pretty much just blip the throttle whenever and get it sideways.

You have a Mustang, F-150. Lemme guess the other two: Ford GT, Chevrolet El Camino.

If you're putting in the lift, you might as well do the gear switch un-irregardless of the tyres. Also, that's a creative way of fixing the weird bent shaft. I fear the day a large enough rock punctures one of the skids or slams into my already armoured differential.

>auto-drifting
>gon' get a little bit

Um. That doesn't seem berry safe now. Take the tyres you have on your F-150, lift your Mustang, and get those tyres on there ASAP homie.

lol the other two are an '09 CRV and '15 RX350.

lifting it higher isn't going to have any affect on the gearing though, and I kind of like still getting 20mpg which is why a large part of me wants to just leave well enough alone. but now that I think about it I'm not really making my driveshaft any safer anyway, unless I do go with a taller tire. and sadly I don't think the S550 currently has the aftermarket support to clear a 35.
>>
>>16163884
hey /ORG/ can you share some wisdome for me? I was gifted a 94 chevy k1500

I to a local shop to get the previous owners over-torqued oil filter off of it. I asked them to look over the hydraulic clutch since it was a little soft and you have to really press it to the floor to get it to shift into first.

They called me today and said they bleed some air out of it. But then he tells me the clutch plate is failing and "will not shift without grinding up the gears"

Is he trying to jew me? I've driven manual cars before and I didn't hear anything that sounded like gears grinding. When I do shift gears while driving there is no slippage and it stalls like it should if i keep the break pressed.

Why do you have a CRV AND an RX350?
I mean, I can't speak since I got memed into buying a 2015 BMW X3 but still (man, I can't wait for 17 months when the lease expires)

I don't know what an S550 is - Do you mean the Mercedes Chaffeurmatic? PLEASE lift it if you have one of those and put 35s on them. They're so bottom heavy, they might actually make great off-roaders.

Your 20 mpg actually messes with my life. WHY DOES MY RANGER ONLY MAKE 16 (makes 21 on the highway, though).

If it's protection you want, skid plates are your best bet outside of the lift. If your driveshaft has been hit once, I'd be freaking out and 1 extra inch of clearance will still make me unnerved. Put a connexion from your front bumper and have it "flow" in individual skid plates. Or something like I outlined here:
