Mine has gone 270,000 miles so far and I've never had a single problem with is. Never been serviced once in its lifetime. Tire change and fluid refill is all it has ever had.

I take it off road to and it has hit 3 deer at about 45MPH and runs perfectly. I beat the shit out of it to by constantly slamming the gas and pulling hectik skidz when it's raining. I have no idea how it hasn't had any problems.

i got a pajero np and so far had to change head gaskets on the engine. Next month I'm removing the brick behind the transfer case because apparently it is the source of vibration at around 2500rpm. Not the best suv i've driven but it's good at what it does.

Mine has had an overheating issue since I got it. I went through 3 radiators (on its 4th) in 3 years. Mechanic diagnosed head gasket, I'm thinking it may be water pump. I gave it off to my brother and bought something that wasn't a massive piece of shit... He then proceeded to lose the keys and I had to go get it towed to the dealer because it was still in my name.

The pajero sat more comfortably with the 74gdi or the 75mivec. The more recent variable geometry 4m41 with 441Nm is probably the best option, older 4m41 is okay. The older 4m40 as in the delica and gen 2 is quite miserable.

i've actually had the 'honor' of working on the mitsu 2.8 and 3.2 and I have to admit the 3.2 on the np and onward is far better built excluding the high pressure fuel pump. But even when compared to the toyota's 3.0 the mitsu 3.2 high pressure fuel pump can be FIXED in mose cases.
Maybe it's just the age of the mitsu 2.8 diesels but they have far more problems than the 3.2. In addition the nw nx pajero's diesel engine is pretty road worthy although still lacking in refinement. 150kw and 441Nm of torque puts it just behind the toureg and disco.

I definitely need a citation on that. The 2.8 was developed from the ground up as a light industrial motor. As long as you don't overheat them (like any other alloy headed engine), they're dead reliable.
Only quibble I've had with them is some of the later '97 onward ones have an incredibly long after glow, and unless you're paying $80 each for NGK examples, they have a habit of chewing out lesser glow plugs. I sorted that in my NL by swapping the computer controlled terminal to a simple push-to-glow button.

The NM-NP used an older style Zexel distributor pump, albeit high pressure and electronically controlled. These cost almost half the current price of the car to have rebuilt. The Common rail engines in the 4th gen NS onward is a much cheaper pump to have rebuilt however.
I'm also more than happy to excuse the levels of refinement given their industrial roots. Delete the EGR like any responsible modern diesel owner and it's happy motoring for the next half a million clicks. I'd take the lack of refinement for a proven track record.

i could be wrong but i think sport and pajero are different vehicles. The sport is basically l200 body on frame, part time transfer case and with a rear live axle. The pajero has an integrated frame, awd and multilink irs.

Akshully, the first gen PA like that posted in OP is built on a second gen Pajero chassis including suspension geometry an full size diffs. The second gen PB and PC Sport were built on an ML/MN L200 frame, albeit with a coil rear end.

Really? The second gen Sports are fairly more capable than the 4th gen Pajero it was sold along side when the ground started becoming unlevel. The full size Pajero though is a nicer place to be, and honestly doesn't really lose much when the going gets tough.

I want to like this, I really do... but there are still so many things that I cant justify - even with it being as cheap as it is

The throttle travel is uncomfortable, the drivers lower seat is way too short for anyone over 5'0, the road noise is terrible, the headlights are utter shit, audio system is awfully hollow even when tuned correctly and they are apparently not all that well built. Swedish co-worker of mine owns one, and he has had two fuel pumps replaced after 1.5 years, the inner plastics of the rear wheel arches as gravel has punched holes in them, one wiper motor, steering wheel airbag and had the hood replaced or resprayed as it started to flake

Another thing, although its not really a "con"; its way too light for its tire size, which is noticeable during winter. The front end will slip damned quickly compared to a Mitsubishi Outlander on the same tires

Personally, I still rate J80 Cruisers and Y60 Patrols above the 2nd gen, but only just. The Patrol and cruiser win on the merit of their purpose built gas motor as opposed to the rather civilian 6G V6 Montero, but that's about it.
