"In the mid 2000’s, BMW was racing in Formula One with a V10 engine so it made sense to develop a V10 to power the next E60 M5 and E62/63 M6. The result was the S85B50. This DOHC, Double VANOS 5 Liter V10 developed 500bhp and for the US market it was mated to either an SMG3 (Sequential Manual Gearbox) or 6-Speed Manual gearbox. The 6-speed manual option was only available in the USA and Canada."
i love this because it was available with a stick only in north america and americans LOVE to talk trash about europeans not able to drive stick by simply referring to this engine when the automatic transmission-only driving license here is called “driving license for people with disabilities” and its illegal to drive stick if you took the exam in an automatic car (which you have to specially request since literally everybody does it in a manual and 99.999999999999999% of the driving schools only have manual practice cars)

Those people buying a new M5 are normally wealthy adults who don't want to spill their coffee having to shift their own cars. It's not the 1950s anymore. I'm sorry you don't have that luxury, but if you aren't driving an underpowered shithox diesel Fiat and/or trying to play boyracer, automatics are probably the way to go. These guys aren't trying to bring their new M5 to the track day.
