It only gets ridiculously expensive, not because of the importer, but because of a (actually illegal by the EU rules) import tax.
The car may be €20k (car price + importer) but here you have to add at least 10k for the tax*.

*mostly based on CO2 emissions, but it's completely unbalanced. A car that does 190 g/km has a tax of 9500€. Another one that does 200 g/km has a tax of 11000€. That's an increase of 1500€ just for 10 g/km. It's mindblowing.

French here, registering an imported car here is a nightmare. Bought my integra (which was sold in france as well) in UK because it was much cheaper, took me a while to get it registered because they need some kind of certificate from the country you purchased it to finally make it fr spec...
Friend of mine imported a jdm aristo (the 2jzgte one) and it took him 4 years and a lot of tests to finally be able to drive it legally on our lovely roads... They have to test out brakes and all that safety shit, so the car has to be stock. Not to mention if you fail the test it's like 1500eurodollars for you to pay if you want your car to be inspected again...

Also my unobtainable unicorn... so rare to find a real twinturbo with 6 speeds now, even in england price are going through the roof... Then add the price of the car in parts to make it reach the 4 digits hp club... Why even live

The funniest part is that the road conversion made these eligible for the GT1 class in the 1994 season, where the Dauers got paired against actual street cars and were just tearing ass. They even took the overall Le Mans victory once again, the newer prototypes were too unreliable to compete with the 962's insane resiliency and the rest of the GT1 class just never had a chance.

The payroll lady at work drives one of these, but in red. I work at an asphalt/contractor company. It's not perfect, I think there might be a few minor interior issues but they crush RAP (basically reclaimed asphalt they're recycling, it has to be crushed to a certain size to be reused) at the plant. The dust is crazy when they do, I bought a cheap 05 Focus to take the shit and just let the paint get fucked, there's literally not much you can do otherwise. The dust is fucking insane. And it isn't just rock dust. It's asphalt and rock dust as one particle so it melts onto your paint a little bit but scratches if you try to clear it. Quite possibly the worst possible shit in the world. A guy had an F150 in white and it was tinged brown-black by the end of the day. My black Focus didn't just feel like sandpaper, it LOOKED like sandpaper.

That red SVX is exposed to this shit every day.

It's also driven in the salty winter here in Ohio.
