I'm not super familiar with BMWs but I assume the wagon body is the only truly rare part so assuming that's in okay condition buy the cheaper one and spend the rest of the money setting it up just how you want it.

Buy the cheap one and make sure they have records of the timing chain guides

If not, buy the kit off ECS and do it yourself. It isn't hard and save a couple grand. Then go balls out with mods.

Buy this one, just try to talk him down. Sure it's going to cost more upfront but if you got the cheap one you'd only spend the same amount to get it to as good condition as this one, and even then it's more likely to have issues later.
