Getting a 2009 Accord Coupe V6 6MT it seems. Just waiting on a small loan this week since it'll comfortably let me get a remote starter, winter tires and rims, and insurance all at once.

Can't wait to be back to Honda again. It's way better than the alternative of walking and it's comfy, but I miss driving something small and actually fun like my 07 i4 Accord was after two weeks of my parent's 08 Chrysler Town and Country.

I'll actually join the collage this time, easy to take for granted something that reliably gets you around with some fun when it happens every day for a while.

wtf that's like $1000 dollars. It's only the fender, bumper, hood, grille and headlight right?
>>
/honda is gay/
>>
>>16094739
>only the fender, bumper, hood, grille and headlight
>only

Plus all the plastics underneath. Quarter panels and bumpers alone aren't cheap brand new, and that's without installation. Only paid $5200 for the thing over one and a half years and 20,000km ago. Insurance figured it was worth $7500 so I had zero complaints about them taking it off my hands for that price. Valued the actual damage at $6200.

Does insurance in the states not pay for brand new parts or something?
>>
>>16094739
Some of what could be a subframe looks t be broken there as well. Still im surprised that insurance wouldn't pay to fix that.
>>
>>16094771
I was too, but I'm moving up to a newer V6 coupe now thanks to their insane overvaluation so no complaints.

So I took my '99 Acura TL into a mechanic because it was smoking a little behind the engine and whining when I would turn. November should be pretty productive for me. Got a Timken wheel bearing coming in the mail tomorrow so I can replace that this week.

Finally found out where the fuck that header that was mailed to me went. Shipping screwed up so they are sending it back to the original owner of it. Decided to say fuck it and I'll meet him in Baton Rouge when he gets it back, hopefully next Sunday or Monday. Here's a crazy coincidence.

>White coupe bro sends me a pic of a rekt sixth gen coupe with green wheels, said it got in an accident at his apartment complex
>wait a sec I recognize those ugly ass wheels
>it's the guy I bought the header from, but that nigga lives in Lafayette 200+ miles away
>check FB, he posts a pic of the rekt car, but said he sold it to a friend two days ago
>dumbass he sold it to rekt it without even registering or insuring it
>smart guy had a notarized bill of sale though

He sold it for $1300 and got a tarbo Del Sol. He still regrets selling it to that fag, though.

Just dropped the z3 head off at the machine shop. They're gonna go over it to check for warpage or damage that I may not have caught. Just gonna plow forward with a k20/k24 with a built head. I have a new timing chain, tensioner, and valves. Just need the valve stems, supertech springs/retainers, and some DC 3.2's. About 1400 dollarydoos and I'm ready to go. Just so happens to be almost the exact amount of my bonus I'm getting Friday, so I should be in business this spring. Car will be more than fast enough to get me into trubble.

Should I max out the suspension rally car style for winter? Might do it tomorrow just for keks

From your posts it sounds like synchros. Do you leave your hand on the shift knob while driving?
>>
>>16110513
It is common. Mostly happens on 3erd and 5th gear. Idk if the euros got the same trans. Pray its fluid needing changer because if it keeps to it and you don't get it fixed it permanently damages the trans on the gear if a person tried to deal with it constantly. Throw out bearing will need replaced regardless though for good measure.

Nah. I think ill use the parts on a baseline rsx if i find one in good condition. Will swap seats and other stuff just for the aesthetic orange glow and 90s comfy bucket seats of the em2.

This. Though i live off parents while im going to college so they make the decision on some stuff. Yes im the anon wanting the rsx in manual but my parents want me to get a new civic in cvt. Id rather just replace the trans/engine with junk parts than get something really new. I've convinced my dad to let me get the rsx manual though, he found out from a co-worker that rented a brand new cvt nissan which had an already falling apart belt that cvt is shit. Besides i have the savings for the rsx or parts to swap/replace.

Thinking about doing a k20 project over a year or two alongside my Lexus SC400 which is my current daily. What Honda/Acura do you guys think would be a cool/fun first build to do that I can get to go insanely fast on the cheaper end? Thinking about an integra, an RSX, or like an EG/EK hatch of some kind. Otherwise i'll probably do an mr2. budget for a car or a shell would be like $4-5k and then I would just spend all my disposable income for the next couple years on mods or swaps. What do you guys think I should do?
>>
>>16112107

Pick a honda that you like the looks of, because it doesn't really matter.

If you don't have a bunch of money, don't bother with the K20. Just run a K24 or do what a lot of people do and go for a B series.

If you have 4-5k starting, you could conceivably do a k24 swap with the accord tranny into a roller you picked up for 1k or so.

Another option is you could buy an integra that has a B18b1 and then run a t3 turbo with about 8 psi. Won't be insanely fast but would be bretty good and not that expensive.

If you want to go "insanely fast" for that kind of money, consider buying something that someone already sunk a lot of cash into for cheapish during winter.

Unlimited budget:

Get dart B20 block
Get B16 or GSR head
Replace valvetrain
New cams
Low comp pistons, upgraded rods, rod bolts, etc
Run a lot of boost
Make 1k horsepower
>>
>>16112211
Good info, thanks man will consider, i'll probably wind up doing a gsr build on a b18 I think.
>>
>>16112211
How hard is it to replace USDM integra headlights with JDM ones? this is honestly a deal breaker lmao. I think US integra headlights are ugly as shit but the rest of the car looks alright supposing you don't stance it or do some retarded ricey shit.
>>
>>16112241

You have to buy a JDM front clip and convert it. It can be a pain in the ass. The 90-93 has the JDM front end though
>>
>>16112249
Well hows this for a project lmao?
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/5858260707.html
>>
>>16112258

I would pay 800 dollars for that car maybe
AZ is nice because rust is rare, but the seals tend to dry out and go shitty. Also one thing youll have to consider is if you want to deal with the automatic seatbelts. It's not an issue if you are okay with converting to canadian ones or are going to put 5 points in.

The b18a1 in there is fine for boost, as long as you dont go bananas.

Also, one advantage of 3rd gen integra is you have airbags
>>
>>16112282

The one you linked doesn't have airbags. Or at least I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Usually cars with automatic seatbelts = no airbags as it was a federal decision that cars had to either have automatic belts or airbags (before airbags were mandatory regardless)
>>
>>16112282
lmao like I said this would be a completely not give a fuck project car. I probably wouldn't even register it and just deal with fines as i'd only drive it like 1 day a week for fun and keep it in my garage for a year or two while I build it. I would definitely talk the dude down though no question.
>>
>>16112306

If you just want a fuck it type car, I wouldnt bother going with the JDM front end conversion as that shit is expensive.

In my opinion broseph, just pick up something you like, drop in a k24 and be done or a non-vtec b18 and boost it

If you want more serious project ideas though, I have a bunch.

For instance, J35 swap a civic and run without a hood or cut a hole in it for that mad max look with 230 ft*lb of torque
>>
>>16112326
Gimme all you got I took vyvanse and smoked a bowl earlier I feel like talking about car shit with strangers on the internet. I'm interested in your project ideas.
>>
>>16112331

First Gen CRX with a turbo K20. Since motor wont fit without dragging oil pan, convert to dry sump

You'd have to do some creative routing though because of the firewall.

Although today I was thinking about it and you could get some cams made and make an adapter and run a K series backwards and mate it to a b series tranny

You'd have to flip the timing around on the map and sort out a couple things but then you'd have tons of room to put a turbo in (plus i like b series tranny better)

Either that or you could do what the arab did and do a twin turbo F20c RWD conversion

all of this is probably outside of the scope of what you want to do though.

For reference I have a first gen CRX with a GSR motor in it, its bretty good
>>

Sick! I've been hyper busy but I will get the bread or timestamp for mine up for tomorrow hopefully.

Love the thing to pieces already. I had fun in my 07 Accord Sedan shitbeater with the i4 and 5 speed, this thing is quite a step up from that. It feels like a really well put together vehicle, with the looks, comfort, and powertrain all being great stuff.
>>
>>16112107
5th through 6th gen coupes and hatches are relatively easy to find parts for swaps. Usually going under 5k as a max. 3k is normal if its a common engine. Rsx and integra swaping are less impressive for a k swap because its done more than you think and stolen often. That and its not as cheap as civic engine swaps anymore if you plan for a teggy. Id say fith gen coupe shell.
>>16112211
If its an em2 k24 swap you can do it on the really budget end. Guys do it from buying totaled rsx parts costing usually around 2-3k. One guy got lucky and it only costed him 300$.
>>

>>16112558

>>16112601
Please link to build if you know offhand where it is. Could be an interesting read

Also, another idea for vyvanse guy. Buy 2nd gen supra and swap in a 1jz
>>
>>16112632
People find a way to work sound insulation around it, incidentally some also make breaking in harder by doing this. No one said step 2 was easy. Though it works if your willing to spend a lot of time and money into lock guarding.
>>16112678
I don't have pics. Was at a con. Guy had custom parts so his ep3 could be drove again. Original engine had a blown head/thrown rod i cant remember which and he thought k24 swapping would be cheaper. It wasn't thanks to mt k24s being rare at the time to buy working. He got a b series because they were easy to find and spent a fucking ton on custom parts to get it in there. Still might have been cheaper than another k20 but thats debatable.

I stupidly bought winter tires that are slightly the wrong size. Will they still work?
My Integra has stock size 195/55/R15, but the winter tires that I got used (on steelies) are 195/65/R15. Will they still work or will the total diameter be off by too much?

What's the suspension setup like?

>>16126692

>>
>>16126841
It'll work. Problems are speedo going off (speedo will read a lower number) and the think to be worried about is sidewall flex. When it snows be extra careful and see if it sways in high speeds. I did the same mistake. The tires in >>16123279 were the wrong size, basically made the same mistake as you. Sold them at the end of that winter.
>>
>>16126922

It's running stock torsion bars up front with non-adjustable KYB shocks. The rear is stock springs with KYB struts.

I did lower it in the front by using the torsion bar adjustment.

Since it's an HF it normally doesn't have a rear ARB. So I have an aftermarket one installed.

People go apeshit on the suspension and you can get 5 way adjustables etc but its really unnecessary. (at least for the current powerlevels)

B swap barely picks up weight in the front, and after relocating battery etc the front suspension doesnt even notice a difference.

When I put the seats in, I added a 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminum bar for each one and it goes through the chassis. I had intended on making it crash safe but it seems to have helped with chassis flexing a little. (Probably placebo)

Probably more than you wanted to know about but I'll answer literally anything. I'm all for sharing knowledge/experiences
>>
>>16126942
You say it'll work but then you say it could sway at high speed in snow?? How much was the sizing off for your winter tires
>>
>>16126989
I don't remember I'll let you know when I get home. I'm saying it'll fit. And technically it works if you're doing city driving. Once you go 55 that's when it started swaying for me

I hope the Honda engineer who decided to use phillips head screws to hold brake rotors on committed sudoku.
>>
>>16128238
Actually they aren't phillips. They're JIS. If you use a JIS head it won't strip. Also, I highly recommend using an impact driver. Makes it a snap
>>
>>16128271
>impact driver
I try that every time I do rotors, but half the screws strip and I end up drilling them out.

I never put them back once they're gone, but given how soft they are and how easily they seize, it seems like a terrible idea. All they do is make the first rotor replacement slower.

This is the issue with phillips vs JIS. The phillips will cam out and strip

I'd recommend just getting a set of JIS screwdrivers too if you work on japanese cars a lot. It's a big oversight made by a lot of folks

Civic this time. One by one I will eliminate these screws from my cars. And the Prelude is mostly parked until spring, I need to take care of a few things and then coax it through an emissions inspection once so I can get an exemption.

>>16128348
I had a #2 Phillips in the impact driver, so maybe a JIS bit would have helped. Wish the screws weren't there to start with, it's not like they do anything beyond initial assembly.
>>
>>16128393
Yeah I trash the screws. I didn't even know JIS was a thing. Probably why the screw holding on my battery fuse stripped so badly. I couldn't get it off at all so I just replaced the whole fucking fuse box instead. It was easier.

Dropped off a fresh driver side wheel knuckle with my Koyo bearing off at Pep Boys right before they closed. I should have that ready to go tomorrow then I can take the two hour trip to Lafayette to get my rare as fuck 4-1 D series header. Let's hope nothing goes wrong on the way there or back. Last time I drove there was to buy the original four door Civic.

Just the way that guy talks makes me cringe.

About to get my RockAuto cart setup for my head gasket and timing belt replacement. I'm gonna stick to the conclusion that D16A = D16Z6 so I'll just order everything as if my hatch is an Si model.

Gonna most likely be getting the big Fel-Pro head gasket kit and probably a Gates timing belt kit. Might fix up the exhaust right before ordering it, though. After I pick up the headers tomorrow I'll only be missing the midpipe.

>>
>>16128773
I couldn't make it past 2 minutes
>>
>>16128819
It's been a pretty good daily driver engine. I need to drive it nearly every single day so a swap would be really difficult to do and I don't wanna give up my fresh Si transmission that I haven't even had for a full year. If my mom gets a decent job, her license back, and a car of her own, I'll have the Corolla all to myself as a backup car. I don't see that happening for quite a while, though.
>>
>>16128837
Whats the corolla being used for if she cant drive?
>>
>>16128842
She drives it to work. Only thing stopping her from getting her license back is some mystery ticket that neither Louisiana or Mississippi can find out about. Pretty annoying.
>>
>>16128855
So what happens if she gets pulled over
>>
>>16128891
I hope that doesn't happen but she hasn't been pulled over in forever. Luckily the cops in Louisiana are pretty based compared to Mississippi. They're not allowed to hide or be in unmarked vehicles when watching traffic.

Forgot to give Pep Boys the circlip and dust shield for the wheel bearing install so I still don't have it ready. Kek

Went to the dealer first to order them but u remembered I had a spare driver side knuckle with all the stuff I needed in the Corolla. I did see the new Civic hatch sitting front and center at the dealer though. It looks nice with the chrome changed to black.

Spot on. It's not too bad besides the shear size of the fucker now. The K20C2 isn't too bad either.

If they don't come off with a hammer and a Philips head screw driver I just drill the head off and go without. Had to do that in my Jetta.
>>
>>16132041
Got it for $3700, it's manual and completely stock, even the interior. OEM parts were used when something needed to be replaced. 150k miles, and the guy I bought it from has been the sole owner it's whole life. He kept it really really well maintained. The paint was done because the clear coat was going just from sun exposure over time.
It's the type SH model with the ATTS unit still intact and working.

Got it inspected and the only problem is a very small oil leak from the distributor. It could just be the O ring, but if I have to replace the whole thing it's fairly cheap.

Maybe if you replace the rotors right after you drive off the lot. After a few seasons of salt and weather, they're 100% seized.

Keep it stock for me or for them?
I have a VX with 13" tires.
I need all the handling prowess I can get with these suckers. I carry speed through the corners for MPG. Obviously lowering it an inch as recommend by Koni will make it look better, but handling better is a gigantic upgrade, considering it's a modification that will replace worn out shocks.
When you've got a 25+ jap car as a daily driver, when things need to be replaced they might as well be upgraded by proven and reputable mods, like suspension, or bushings, or different model big brake upgrades, that sort.
>>
>>16133552

>>
>>16134101
A lot of times the bolster foam on the inside has separated. So you'll need to repair the foam or replace it. Since the pattern isnt on the bolster should be easy enough to replace the bolster. But for the money you're better off just buying a seat in better shape. Upholstery can be expensive
