Today Scotty said I have to change my oil every three to four thousand miles for dino oil and every seven for synthetic.
Is this reasonable? I run dino and only change it at 8000 miles.
He also says I dont have to wear in my brake pads when I had always heard that you have to.

Yes, 3-4k for conventional is standard. 5-7.5k for synthetic is standard.

Go with what your owner's manual says.
