Mustang's aren't muscle cars, they're pony cars with a couple of performance models like GT350s / 500's and the boss series that are actual muscle cars. They're cheap 'sporty' cars for the everyman made from ford's buckets of cheap available parts that go in other cars. The mustang started life as a 6-cyl ford falcon replacement as a dirt cheap commuter car with a little bit of kick and by and large has remained that, the v6 model is the bread and butter of the series. Let's not go pretending that the mustang was, is, and always will be some kind of serious sports car or brute force muscle car, it isn't. If you just want a DD, why buy a Mustang in the first place? There are so many things about it that make it impractical compared to a Camry. You are supposed to buy a pony car because you want some power, and if you buy anything besides a V8 for that purpose, you will be disappointed every time you put your foot down.

The V6 isn't slow and it's still RWD and looks like a sports car, but it's 2016 and having a car with 300HP today is nothing like having a 300HP car in 1992. Only reason to get the V6 is if you want a convertible for your wife to cruise along the beach on a Sunday afternoon with the top down at 25mph.

Is pretty ok. Heavy as you said and not very economical. If you just want a comuter car you can do better. If you want a sporty car that you want to DD you can do better. If you want to daily in heavy city trafic just get the ecoboost one. More power, more MPGS.

It got a slower time on the VIR than the old 2011 3.7 rear live axle Mustang.
The 0 to 60 time is also slower, and yes, it gets like 2mpg more but it uses premium gas as opposed to the V6 engine.

All you care about is the 0-60 for stoplight racing and .2 of a second won't really matter.
And the ecoboost gets about 3 more mpg than the v6, which adds up and matter when you are so poor that you can't afford a v8.

I drove a expedition with a v8. Granted it was a decade old so I don't know how the newer ones were but it was pretty slow and the slushbox on it was terrible

I never thought to use higher octane fuel in my v6 but it seems like it would benefit from it especially at higher rpms and under heavy acceleration. I'm going to start using higher octane fuel.

Hydraulic autos can be shifted earlier by pulses at the throttle. Throwing the rpms by giving the throttle a pulse shifts the gears. Same goes for tapping breaks to lower rpm fast for downshifts.
