How good a scantool do I need to get before I can do stuff like transmission and airbag codes on a 2009 cheby 1500 van?
What is the cheapest?

get a delphi ds150e clone. you can get it for £50 over here so I imagine a bit cheaper for you. all you need is a laptop or a tablet to link it to, does literally everything the genuine one does, just remember not to hit the update button as it'll stop working when it tries to install new genuine updates. it will do everything you could possibly need.

That looks perfect .
Ebay item?
Or does amazon have gray market stuff like that?

$20 bluetooth ELM327 will read and clear the codes.

I've seen them on amazon and ebay here in the UK, even aliexpress iirc. got mine from eBay. some people sell them in a different box under the name autocom. it's the same programme though.

Just Google that, cool dude. I've been wondering if I'll have to go to the dealer to get my brakes flushed because I don't have the capacity to cycle the abs valves to clear air out of there. This looks like it may do that. I also have airbag stuff going on (as in they don't work, light on dash) and been wondering what component needs to be replaced.

>bluetooth ELM327
Sellers on Amazon say it does not read SRS or ABS codes.

the clones do pretty much everything on most cars upto 2014 model years as that's when it was copied from the real one. although I have used it on newer cars and its worked. even used it to recode some items after replacement. for the cost you can't go wrong.

crp123, got it for 100 bucks off of ebay, reads all the codes. Updated the directory and seems to be just fine for all of it. import/domestic.
