E82 is superior in every way performance wise.

But muh m3 v8,

An N54 135i with a few bolt ons, a tune and suspension is faster.

I'm looking into buying an E92 335i (the car in OP and post-LCI) and have been seeing 25-35k mostly but N54 models seem to have gone down to 10-15k however god fucking knows I would not buy a nearly-out-of-warranty N54 with high mileage.

tfw also torn on color because everything but silver and gray looks great.

Severely considering a m235i lads...

Exhaust, a tune, and the locking diff aren't that much and lots of 2014s are coming off lease now.

Why should I not buy one, strip off most of the badges, and eat e92s for breakfast?

Pretty expensive though. In the 40's.

I say wait like 2 years for it to come down into 20's and for the 2 years while you wait get a N54 135i in the mid teens so you can get used to small chassis bmw's.

JB4 the shit out of it, FBO and what not and E92 m3's will be easy while you wait for price to come down on M235i, its saving you money that way and you still get to enjoy the same engine that is in the 2 series pretty much, depreciation is a bitch on new BMW's.
>>
>>16054090
Might as well just get the M240i

OP image is an 335i, as I said. Unless you're planning on tracking a lot I'd highly recommend the 335i over the M3 and this is coming from someone who's been cross shopping them for months.

135i Dyno with a few grand invested in it.

Thats like 50 hp more than an m3.
>>
>>16054114
I'm coming from a 335is with the n54 so I'm used to a similar engine/chassis combo. n54 makes great power no doubt with simple mods but it always feels like a time bomb. Doubly so when not under warranty. There's a handful of 2014 models under or right around 40 with 6-speed.

>>16054115
I'm willing to eat some depreciation but not new off-the-lot amounts of it.

>>16054120
my man
>>
>>16054169
If you already owned an N54 than I say go for it. It has an N55 engine, not much different but the body will make the car come alive.
>>
>>16054090
I have one, it's pretty sweet. RWD, 6MT, Wavetrac diff, Enkei RPF1s. There's really no need for a tune or exhaust, the car is already really quick stock, I'd only recommend a proper diff and lighter wheels.
>>
>>16054125
That engine's not going to live very long though lol. I'm looking for a daily with occasional track days; not the other way around.

>>16054187
The suspension setup seems to get a lot of praise. And the n55 seems to take some tunes really nicely while still maintaining good efficiency. n54 would also kind of die in the top end.
>>
anyone v8 swapped an e30?
I'm trying to decide between an e30 36 or e46 for an LS swap.
>>
>>16054210
Nice! How's the steering feel? Is it the same as all the other f8x cars (if you've driven any)? I wish there was one nearby to test drive but the closest one is 50 miles away and xdrive.
>>
>>16054233
Not him but it's generally considered that the 2 series isn't a numb sheißeschachtel like the F30
>>
>>16054233
Steering feel is fine. I haven't driven any of the F8x cars so I can't compare. I have an E36 M3 though and between the two the E36 gives a little more feedback but the M235i is more refined, if that makes sense. You can't feel every bump but you can feel what you need and when you're pushing the car it tells you all you need to know. I thoroughly enjoy driving it.

If you're worried about that numb BMW steering that's all the rage I can tell you I had an X1 loaner and that thing was what they're talking about, the M235i doesn't suffer from that.

I've heard swapping the F8x lower control arms into the M235i help improve handling and steering feel but I haven't done it yet.
>>
>>16054260
>>16054288

based /bmwg/. It's impossible to get a straight answer from the faggots at bimmerforums, etc. The steering feel was my main worry since having a base 3-series loaner that was completely numb.

Thanks fellas.

Ok bmw faggots
Im buying an e34
I have two choices
>530i 5spd (M60B30)
>540i Auto (M60B40)

There is a massive power difference between the two but I really like the manual, but the power of the 540i is also good.

Wat do?
>>
>>16056355
I'd go 540i as it is a more comfy car than the 3er, better engine has the power that makes up for automation.

Eh, I've hung around a lot of forums while cross shopping cars and BMW isn't even that bad. If you want cancer go find anything Japanese (excluding Miatas which actually has good community), notably Honda. Corvette forums are pretty bad too, it's a circlejerk of old men who immediately dismiss anything that isn't a Vette as garbage.

NICE

1994 530i M60
>>
>>16057937
Way more reliable
Retains value better
Low-end torque is a lot nicer for daily driving than having to keep it around 4k
Infinitely cheaper to maintain (including parts and maintenance)
Comfier ride than the M3.
Similar performance in a straight line (within half a second to 60, even closer on is models).
For the price difference you can get a fully loaded 335i instead of settling on a bare M3

I'd personally compare it to a dual sport bike where yes, it's fine on the road and great off public roads (tracks and off-road respectively) but if I was just going to use it as a fun commuter then I'd go with a full street-bike or the luxury muscle car as opposed to the dual sport/DDable track car.
>>
>>16057991
>>16057937
Also just test drive both, in the end it's down to preference. One preference just happens to burn a far larger hole on your wallet. Just keep in mind if something about either model particularly annoys you, you won't get used to it just because you went ahead and bought it anyway.
(I've made that mistake before)
>>
>>16057991
I agree on every point but
>retains value better
The value of M3s will always be higher than standard cars. That being said though, he should get the 335 since not only will it be fully loaded but of course being more reliable is a huge plus.
>>
>>16058021
The M3 sort of has a reputation for being a moneypit and being thrashed by idiots, the E92 one in particularly is also severely underrated by normies given it's not an E46 or brand new.

I don't think so, according to the power steering cap (its the star lid w/ chf11s)
>>
>>16064818
Servotronic is the changing of steering assistance depending on speed and was made standard on all cars around 2005. This means that the steering is light when slow and heavier when fast.
Active steering is changing the steering ratio depending on the speed. So on a highway you get less twitchy steering and around town you don't have to steer so much around turns.
