Why don't you drive a truck? Once you drive a truck you can't go back to a car.
>>
>not having a small, fuel efficient commuter/grocery getter and also a work truck
Why are you poor?
>>
>>16049512
I like
>going fast
>turning
>top down
>fuel economy

>dont need a bed
>>
>>16049512
stop. you give us trucc/ute dribers a bad name.
>>
>>16049512
But I do drive a truck, mainly for work use. It's fun to drive, not that bad on gas.
>>
I actually dont think I'll want to go back to a regular car as a DD/main vehicle, as I'm getting too used to having that much space, offroad capability, tall sitting position and so on

Get a lotus and you'll be in the same position the whole time. But you'll just be angled horizontally by 30 degree. Maximum comfitutde.

Or just lift kit a smart car that's been adapted to be a single person vehicle.
>>
>>16049617

Turbo diesel swapped 2 door SUV with removable top is the answer.
>>
>>16049729
Yeah, but half the time I'll be sitting by the roadside; broken down

but with the speed boost over the trucc, you'll get there twice as fast even if you spend half the commute time fixing your vehicle.

I wanted it gone as I felt I never utilized bed.

Come to find out, I used it a lot. I mean a lot.

Now I constantly find myself looking for another truck. Probably another 4.9 or a Ranger.

Decisions decisions.

But I do

Gas isn't as bad as people say, 36 gallon tank lasts quite a long time and on the highway I get pretty great mileage.
>>
I like the size and seating height of trucks but I think the cramped cabin and bed is retarded. Who wants the bed exposed to the elements? Just get a cargo van
>>
>>16049512
Uh, bullshit.
>first vehicle was a midsize truck
>first time I sat down in a car I was amazed at how much better it felt to drive
>>
>>16049784
Thats the thing tho; I'm not interested in a sporty daily. I carry too much gear, value my license too much to risk anything, and the roads & winters arent Lotus-worthy
>>
>>16049900
That's a V8 right?
>>
I dream of daily driving some classic car. I would dd a classic truck, but dont want that 8mpg.. so ive compromised and decided im buying an el camino!
>>
>>16049931
Yep, it was cheaper than all the V6 options as well.
>>
>>16049936
I hope this is bait, still gonna get 8mpg or so, kek.
>>
trucks are basically minivans now. cool people drive older trucks.
>>
I feel like a dick if I don't use turn signals so that exempts me from a truck
>>
>drove an auto C/K1500 for two years
>moved on to Si hatch

Don't regret it at all driving is actually fun now, especially with curvy rural roads and the togue. If I get another vehicle it will be some project racecar shitbox or a comfy barge.

Can't do that with my commute bby, I drive 200 miles each day on a good one. 350 on a bad day.
>>
>>16050138
Even with a small block and 3.73's a lot of people are really only in the high single digits unless you go to an EFI system of some kind.

That said, there are some really good sub-2k bolt on injection systems nowadays.

>>
>>16051614
>wagecucks
If you're driving your own truck for work you're probably not a >wagecuck
>>
>>16051623
For real

This is literally like 90% of truck owners. Honestly makes me rage, it shouldn't but it does
>>
>>16050689
Plenty of people get mid to high teens with a 350, 3spd, and 2.73 gear. Even better with a 4spd
>>
>>16049512
I don't like to follow the recommended speed signs or even the speed limit, but I like not rolling over or hitting a wall

It just so happens that those signs represent the fastest most trucks can safely go, rather than the fastest most cars can safely go. From this, you can reason that our lives would be better if nobody DD'd a truck and either owned or rented them specifically for work purposes and never drove them when not hauling a load or going to pick one up.
>>
>>16049512
Honestly? I like having a truck but I also want a fun car for DD.

>>16049910
It's called a topper. Which are also removable for when you put stuff in the bed that wouldn't fit with a topper on. Oh, and that cargo van can't do that.

>>16050130
I want this so bad.

>>16051623
>>16051635
This argument makes me rage.
>WHY AREN'T YOU USING A TRUCK FOR THE THINGS I THINK A TRUCK SHOULD BE USED FOR?!?!?!?!
Fuck off. I want one, I have a use for one, and if you don't agree with it then you can fuck right off.
>>
>>16051670
>those signs represent the fastest most trucks can safely go
kek that's a good one.
>>
>>16051686
It's a fucking true one.

They just don't handle as well as the FWD shitboxes most people drive today. With the magic of FWD, anyone can take sharp bends at full speed. There's little skill in cornering these days except for "stay on the gas and off the brake, but let off the gas when you go straight instead of turning"
>>
>>16049910
Not everything you haul can or should be put in a cargo van. You gonna haul 12' lumber in that van? Just leave the rear doors open?
You gonna haul gravel or dirt in that van? You can't even stand up in it to shovel it out after.
You gonna haul motorbikes or quads in that van? You think you can get to where you're going to use those in something with as low ground clearance as a van?
>>
Because they're fucking huge and would fit neither my Euro driveway, my Euro garage or my budget.
>>
>>16051754
get a midsize
>>
>>16051760
That's still fucking huge. I'd have to get an oldschool Ranger, and at that point the cargo space isn't that much better than a boxy wagon's, but exposed to the Elements and without rear seats. Only upside is you could pile up dirt in a pickup bed, which is something I don't do. At the very most I'll have some garden cuttings that I can stuff into a bulk bag and throw into the back of a wagon.
>>
>>16051839
You can't even load a pallet into a shitty little wagon though.
You just gonna fucking unload everything from it to fit shit in your car?
>>
>>16051845
Industrial pallets are of equally little concern to me as piles of dirt are. I'm not a construction worker.
>>
>>16051852
Doesn't mean you won't need to haul one at some point.
You gonna toss your quad in the back of your little wagon? Your skidoo?
What about garbage then? Everyone has garbage. How is that little wagon gonna hold that shit, and will it even be able to get out of the dump or is it gonna get stuck in the mud down at the bottom of the garbage pit?
>>
>>16051910
>quad
lol
>too poor for garbage service
lol
>and what is tool rental
a: you're too poor for it. lol.

rednecks
>>
>>16051983
A - What's wrong with a quad.
B - Why pay someone to haul shit when I can do it myself? It's either 2 bucks of gas, and 5 bucks to enter the dump or what, 200 bucks to get someone to do it?
C - Tool rental? The fuck is that? You pay someone to borrow a tool? Why wouldn't you just borrow it from a friend or cousin on the rare chance you don't have whatever it is and can't make one yourself.
>>
>>16052010
A - for people who can't into dirtbikes
B - you are poor and your time isn't worth much
C - You can rent a better and more specialized truck than you could ever afford to own or DD
>>
>>16052034
1- You can't put a deer on a dirtbike.
2 - your right, my time isn't worth 600 bucks an hour. if that makes me poor, so be it.
3 - wait, you said tool rental, now your saying truck rental. which is it? also my anser is still the same. if you don't have what you need, and you don't have the ability to make it yourself, just borrow from a friend or cousin.

That's not a field. That's a little mud pit on a road.
This is what a field looks like. Each of those little bumps is about 8" high. And the ground is normally either so hard that it's like neverending speedbumps or so soft that you're 2" into the ground between each of those bumps, so that brings it up to digging through 10" of dirt every foot.

And normally there's shit planted in the dirt too. So you're doing all the above, while driving through constant brush up to 8' high.

>>
>>16053981
Yeah. Which means you said road handling. Road handling is irrelevant. Trucks belong on dirt. Cars can't go on dirt. Therefore, cars are for city-slicker faggots afraid of dirt that can't even bother putting spacers on the springs of an old Panther so they can at least TRY TO pretend they're not pavementcucks.

Men have a car to transport people and a truck to transport things.
If you were a man with a real job instead of working 30hrs a week at Burger King, you'd be able to afford both instead of having to choose.
>>
>>16051910
I don't have a quad or snowmobile and if I did I'd have a small trailer for it.

I live in the developed world where garbage men come by your house to pick up your garbage. Our collection spot for irregular garbage is paved.

For the odd large load that can't even fit into a wagon it's far cheaper to rent a van or ute for a day or two a year than it is to permanently carry the higher running costs of a pickup and having to deal with its downsides (worse ride, noise, top speed and manouverability) on all other days of the year.

I'm not talking about "regular" garbage. I mean when you've got a couple hundred kilo's of it. It's either drive it to the dump yourself or pay someone else to do it. Garbage man isn't gonna pick up a bunch of rusted metal from the curb.
And if your dump is paved I don't know what country you live in that thinks it's a good idea to waste money like that. Mine looks like this. Except about 40 feet down from surface, and with about 6-8" of mud everywhere.

Except for those of us who can miraculously do fine in a car. Then your strange unwillingness to use your monster torque to get off the line of a stoplight at a reasonable pace ("crusin'" attitude?) causes several people to miss the light, and your slow cornering further compacts what would have otherwise been free flowing traffic.

With trucks, moderate traffic becomes rush hour because the drivers are just so damn slow. The last time I saw a truck going even slightly fast it was a riced out mazda mini-pickup drag racing on the interstate.

You can just get a large trailer that can carry MORE than any truck bed on the market, and then have an enclosed space in your SUV/van for more precious cargo

Trucks are just objectively shit for hauling. It's the incompetent poorfag's response for being too poor for and too shit at driving for trailers.

the downside is that you will necessarily be going slower, but not much slower than you would go with a reasonable fear of flipping over in a very large truck (the only kind of truck americans buy)

Trucks are a waste of money for what you get. A gimped SUV for people that can't into trailers.

why? because trucc threads aren't really applicable here. they're basic automobile and not really niche auto sector like offroaders and jeepfags.

i started both the last offroad general threads. the first one died after a good 90 posts. then i went backtracking for a day and wanted to update my bumper situation and it had already been archived. second one gained no traction other than someone saying that i had a small dicc.
now i just quietly prey on the other threads where applicable and until i get either a jep or get the budget to actually mod up.

one thing i don't really get is why extended cabs are shit upon. they actually have the space in the back for guns, poles, etc and can be kept more secure there.

i also keep my more valuable things in there like ipad, full face gas mask, two milk crates of CDs, and guns/fishing spears/ sports equipment when applicable.

this is true. dirt roads and gravel paths can be done on a lot of vehicles - and almost all of the american market can do it. though, in respond to >>16058223 , i need a trucc due to the bed being the easiest thing for transport of large, hazardous chemicals. part of combustible containers is that they can't be "in the same area as passengers". so a van was ruled out.

I WAS pissed at that because it made me shell out $2000 for a trucc instead of a minivan. but now i'm glad since it allows me to off road and jazz.
everything turned out great ^__^

lmao@ the first ad "rare to find one that's not rusted". same.jpeg. at least now i know that the american used market is significantly better than the canadian one. bronco for $4500 is something i should've got instead of this ranger in this case.
(though, 3 hour drives would become 4 hour drives and cost twice as much fuel. and the work fuel budget does not appreciate that)

what's the ranger situation looking like?

>>16058243
yes. this. i'm not sure what these people above in the few posts are saying that extended cabs are bad or that they're somehow killing the soul of truccs.

>>16058396
I don't hunt on the fire trails or near them, but rednecks still go off the trails and blaze their own so they can drop their quads and dirtbikes deeper in the woods and generally scare off all the fucking deer

>hunting on your own land
This is modern american pest control, not medieval english "sport". I repeat, hunting is not a sport. It's for food and pest control. You can and should do it on any land that allows it so long as the meat to cost ratio remains sane. if you don't have land, do someone else a favor and eat their deer if they don't want to, or have too many deer to fit in one freezer.

Meh, it's safe enough to keep me alive. The containers don't explode like they do in the movies. They just spill out and worst case situation, I have to close the road to deal with cleanup. I was transporting 1kg of sodium cyanide the other day. The combustibles are normally either in tanks or liquid drums. Not as dangerous as your gas tank or propane tanks used to fuel vehicles.
But the fact that they're movable means the gubmn't wants to make sure we're safe and they can levy another tax on me.
I mean, worse case situation, the liquid nitrogen pools, completely destroys my trucc, and I get a ford bronco instead (;

And there's nothing wrong with scaring deer while having fun in your quad. But I've never heard of hunting deer for "pest control". You kill coyotes for that reason, but you don't eat them. You kill deer to eat them and get a new wall mount.

I have a fuel tank stuffed somewhere under the trunk. It's supposed to be more protected than a tank or box of flammables and corrosives strapped down in a truck bed, but it probably isn't, and i don't want to up the odds by adding additional hazmat containers.

And yeah, deer are pests. They might not look like it, but they are. Ever seen them in the road? Pest behavior. Coyotes are barely considered pests here because the few farmers keeping livestock are rich enough for decent fences, and most people can run over them and not give a fuck.

Or a Car Trailer. SUV (X5 E70) & Trailer, when needed, is how i roll.

SUVs are not suitable for going offroad like Trucks, SUVs are just bigger Wagons.

you have a Truck for the JAAHB (Farmer, construction worker, gardener etc.) or if you need to haul/transport things, that are dirty and heavy. I would not like to transport a dead boar with my X5. A Truck is easy to clean and THE SYMBOL OF THE WORKING MAN.

Just the Truck is easy to drive than having car+trailer.

Haul shit, tow shit, drive places. She does everything a truck ought to do. Never left me stranded or gave me any real problems. Not the greatest thing offroad, but shit, she weighs over 6000 lbs so I cut her some slack.

I've heard the newer Rams aint so great, but I never had any personal experience with one, so I couldnt really say. Mines a 91 W250 and Dad's got an 04 3500. Both Cummins trucks, both 4x4. Love my truck, she rides rough when theres no load in the back and the interior is far from luxurious, but shes a truck, dammit. Dad's rides nicer, better interior, but the auto trans is the definition of slushbox. Glad mines a manual. Both have been real reliable, Dad's had some fiddly little electrical issues with the door locks and power windows, but nothing major. Overall I'd say they're pretty damn nice.

>>
>>16059029
Yeah. Hell, I own a truck and a body on frame SUV with a truck driveline/suspension setup, and both are capable of taking banking turns at well over 70mph. My SUV can take a downhill bank doing 75+ with no drama whatsoever, and very little body roll.

You need to understand, when a truck is set up for towing, the suspension is somewhat looser in order to accommodate trailer sway; but when set up for the street, the suspension on them is usually very stiff.

What's more, most econoboxes and small sports cars from Europe don't sound quite as good as a well set up truck with a V8. For example, here's my personal SUV doing a top speed sprint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSSXn-mPAuU

Because it's fun. And my dad is a 2001 acura cl 3.2 il probably sell for a Ford ranger.

>>16058862
I want it, but I'm going to get something small

>>16059013
Mine tops out at 83. When I v8 swap it'll probably go 120 ish but most speed limits here have the top end as 80.

>driving a sedan to the gun range

You can fit a lot of guns in the trunk of a sedan

But maybe if you want to keep up appearances, you bring a truck
>>
>>16049512

funny because i just testdrove a nice doge durango with a 5.7 v8 hemi AND THAT SHIT WAS GUTLESS it felt like a retarded tank, i wanted to crawl back into my shitbox so bad after driving that piece of shit.

owning a large vehicle is fucking stupid.
they are a pain in the ass to work on, everything is needlessly expensive, its just an utter fucking mess.

however you do need a vehicle with some ground clearance and maybe 4wd for offroad adventuring. in which case i would recommend something no larger than a jeep liberty
>>
>>16059450
On the contrary I drove a grand cherokee with the 5.7 hemi and I thought it was pretty damn torquey, don't know what your talking about saying its gutless. Nice sound too
>>
>>16059351
My 1.0 naturaly aspirated 3 cylinder 1KR-FE reaches up to 173kmh or about 108 mph(GPS average over 1km) before I had to brake (fucking Golf)
tested on the A 46
>>
>>16059486
Also, mine is a peugoet 107, not a truck.
>>
>>16059427
>But maybe if you want to keep up appearances, you bring a truck
Literally who gives a shit, you conformist fashion victim?
>>
>>16059500
>comparing a 50 year old truck to a modern car

and I'm sure the 15 horsepower peugoets of the same era were just as slow
>>
>>16056894
I don't know how your household regularly generates hundreds of kilos of rusty metal, but mine doesn't, and neither does any household I know.

Also we don't have dumps per se because dumps are third world tier and a waste of resources. We have collection centers where odd garbage gets piled up for pick-up and reprocessing, and whatever can't be reprocessed will be stuffed into heat burning power plants. And you're piling up those materials to eventually bury them and tell us that we're wasting money. What a shitfest.

And by manouverability I mean outside dimensions and turning circle, and the ride on gravel generally isn't an issue because we can afford to pave our roads.
>>
>>16049512
I daily a ranger. I miss driving a car.
>>
>>16059519
You never said yours is that old, also we are talking about a low reving 1l naturaly aspirated engine.
>>
>>16059471

if you think that gutless emissions reduced shithole interference engine is "torquey" then you really dont know what torque is

besides the fact that all merican v8's are gutless and have been for over two decades now, the 5.7 hemi is an interference engine, and guess what chrysler managed to do with it?
yeah,
they fucked up the timing. the chain assembly would snap if you operated the vehicle in fuel saving mode.

how fucking stupid could you possibly be to make the only modern american interference engine, then pack it with a timebomb timing chain?
only america can be this fucking dumb.
pic related is the only thing dumber in the entire history of corporate america scam artistry

I believe it. I also have 4.11 gears, no overdrive and a 4 or 4.5k redline
>>
>>16059791
The 5th gear is basicly a overdrive, since Vmax is in 4th gear, eventually ill post proof to get 170km/h in about 2h.

I just tossed some cinderblocks (160lb) in the bed and now it doesn't bump as much. Yay.

>>16058696
I has an X3 and a Ranger UTE. I daily drive my Ranger and shuttle people around to events in the X3.
Kinda regret getting it, desu. Lease is over in just over a year so good.

>>16059013
My ranger tops out at around 140, yeah.
>>
>>16059791
>>16059882
Hey. On the topic of oberdribe, is the Ranger's 5th gear an overdrive? I know automagics have a taller gear ratio and both my Ram 1500 and Nissan Frontier (never again) had the oberdribe cancellation option.
When on oberdribe, it could barely accelerate but I can still overtake people (with two lanes, not dopped one way) in fifth gear.

Also, fuck the X3 with the 8 gears and weird, weird ratios. I can pop 4th gear going 40kmph (25mi) and it'll be fine.
>>
>>16059887
With a engine multiple times the sieze of mine and a fuel consumption like a hole in the tank...
>>16059905
Just try out in wich gear you are faster, if you are faster in lower gears you may have a overdrive.
>>
>>16049512
Jokes on you faggot. I drive a 4x4 truck and a supercharged v8 rwd car.
>>
>>16059905
Yeah it is an overdrive
>>
>>16058188
Trailer takes up too much space. I'd rather have my mid-size.

>>16058383
Obviously you must replace the bed. Or beat it back into place. Not sure what you mean by pivots, maybe mine works different. I know it works different than the old F-150 my mom had.

>>16059427
>not having guns too big to fit in a sedan
Fucking pleb.

I've worked in construction. Here in Ausfailia I've been to many muddy construction sites. Plenty of workers show up in FWD economy cars or RWD utes. No one gets stuck.
Just a bit of common sense and taking it easy on the mud, everyone gets through.

Working in construction is absolutely no excuse for the ride height of pickup TRUKS or "needing" 4WD either.
I'm talking messy, rutted sites too...

Trucks are for girls
>>
>>16061078
But then they park them up trees because girls can't drive for shit.

People live different lifestyles. I find that having extra cargo space is useful, but usually when I transport things it's personal belongings that I want to keep dry. It's very rare that I transport dirty things that I can't put into a car. But on those occations I can use a trailer, because it's not something I do very often.

My choice is to have an SUV with only front seats. You still sit high up and have good ground clearance, and it's useful for transporting things. But truck beds seem limiting to me as well, because they are pretty low if you want to use a cover over the bed and keep things dry.

So it really depends on what you expect to do with your vehicles, but honestly very few of us are transporting building materials and other dirty shit around in our private cars.
I get it if you're a rural guy or self employed or something. But lots of people do not need a truck bed.

>>16059980
The dinky Ranger can tow 6000lbs, though. Compared to the Ram 1500s 10000lbs, that's not bad at all. Also, fuck ecodrive and Ford's equivalent.

stop this. both of you.

>your only options when getting a vehicle is sedans or trucks

>>16049512
I prefer light fast sports cars. Infinitely more fun to drive. Also, I'm not moving furniture or large rocks every other day.

Enjoy your gas guzzling bloated tonka truck, bro.
>>
>>16049891
Yup when you drive a truck you forget how much stuff you just Chuck in the bed... of course you also went to no space making it seem worse
>>
>>16059698

god dammit, i hate half assed incomplete information online.
it turns out, all of chryslers engines, v6 and above, are interference engines.

the 3.7L 4.7L and 5.7 hemi are all interference engines

Utes exist in my country. Why would I need something slower and fatter when I can haul just as much shit in something faster and better looking?
>>
>>16049512
I own a tacoma.

I use it several times a week to haul concrete, lumber, and other things for improvement projects around the house.

I take my daughter to the shooting range with it.
I help my friends move with it.
I drive it to work everyday.

it's awesome.
