Has there ever been an automobile that has gone back to a previous design it use to have? Im not talking about retro bullshit like the mustang and camaro of recent years, but more or less gone in complete reverse and fellback on an older design after a new one failed?

no
>>16047758
No, they're not gonna make the FD ever again, you nostalgic fuck
>>16047758
Challenger is the closest that's done it. Literally went back to the exterior design but with modern improvements.
Mustang went back as far as possible after going full shitbox in the 80's
Well American cars were big, then got smaller and then bigger again.
I feel like VAG tried to go flatter and more traditional on the nu-beetle, after the bubbly appearance of the new-beetle. new-beetle looks pretty good lifted though

Not wishing for the FD.
But this thread just made me sad. Especially when a quad hits you with a truth bomb like that.

Why would a billboard like that be in a racing game?

The foxbody mustang sort of. The next generation mustang was supposed to be what the ford probe ended up being but mustang owners managed to convince ford how colossally stupid it would've been so they kept making foxbodies until the sn95 was developed.

Oh fuck, it is so puke inducing I can totally see that happening.

Thats what i was thinking. Not aesthetically, but it kept a small block ford, and a limited slip live axle. Also its fairly light. The sbf goes back to the 60s. Even the first two years of the next body, 94 and 95, kept the 5.0 and live axle. After that ford went to the over head cam design in stangs, which has 1 or 2 cams per head, depending on if its sohc gt or dohc cobra. They just kept getting heavier, bigger chassis and didnt go irs until 2015.
Camaros kept big ol push rods until 02 when they got terminated. Same with trans ams, they also have live rear axles. When they came back with the gto, and g8, these cars were like 4000 pounds and may have had irs. Also since about 97 or 98 they got ls motors, these are aluminum block and heads with coil on plug ignition.
I guess the most similar car would be the last foxes with carburators. Or even camaros. Thatd be mid 80s.
Really nothing has carbs anymore, or even a regular distributor. Everything is going irs, fuel injection or direct injection, with coilpacks, aluminum blocks, and many even have forced induction or OHC. The biggest flaw though is the weight of most modern sportscars.

Bullshit original challenger was so much different, the face is the only thing that's remotely alike.

It's almost like there's a word for it but I forgot it.
Who would devote time and money into an improved design that isnt improved
>>16055939
E body died and never came back. New challenger would be a compact car in the early 70s noob deal w/it
