Someone left this in my wheel /o/. All I can say is, what the fuck?
Previous owner, shop, idk
I found it while doing the first oil change the car's had since I've owned it.
Seriously, the actual fuck is this shit?
It's like that story of the doctor who left a pair of scissors in a dude's stomach
>>16045489
Clamping brake hose probably, probably has a sticky caliper, get to fixxen
Did you remove it?
>>16045489
I think you just got free tools enjoy
>>16045493
Ight I'm lost as to why the fuck those would be there
>>16045496
Yes
>pic related
Not a bad find desu
>>16045495
Shit. Should I put it back on?
>>16045489
>vise grips attached to a caliper slide boot
>someone left a wrench on my brakes
>>16045504
Cool
>>16045503
It wasn't on brake hose so IDK breh
why would it be on the slide pin
>>16045489
thats what that is? its a wrench? is that right?
>>16045517
And to think I drove it like this for 2000 miles (dude said he just changed it). No wonder I always heard something clanging when I turned hard right...
>>16045523
It's actually a pair of hedge trimmers my bad
>>16045547
Nigger they put that shit on the caliper bolt for a reason, they propably used it as a nig-rigged lock washer type deal. I once had my caliper bolts literally fall off entirely. My caliper was being held on by the rim, and the brakes alone. I was on a delivery and i kept hearing nasty as fucking grinding that would go away when i pushed the brake. Had to replacethe entire caliper because it got rekt just hanging there. If i were you OP, id replace the caliper bolts, or the entire caliper (theyre super cheap anyways)
>>16045489
what car?
>>16045570
How can I check this? It doesn't seem like my calipers are falling off
>>16045601
most caliper pins are held on with a clevis pin or something of the sort, if this pin doesnt have one and the others do, youll need a new one, its not asuper hard fix, and if they used those to fix it, they wasted more money on the tool than the pin.
>>16045616
Can you tell if it has the clevis pin from this picture? This is where the vise grips were.
my question is how do you not notice this before buying the car? just in general you should look around the wheel and rotor to make sure it's okay
>>16045640
My dad is a retired Mercedes mechanic and he says you need to pull the foreskin back and take a picture to be sure.
>>16045640
Looks like the previous owner just tightened the caliper bolts with vice grips. I'd put a wrench on them, they probably aren't very tight. I'd also ask what else he fixed himself and check the torque on anything in that area.
>>16045654
do you even still gots a 63 nova hombre?
Didn't some boomer die into it?
>>16045640
>>16045654
Yeah that seems likely, the bolt itself looks like its been stripped, if it is it would explain the use of vice grips, but not why they left them there. they could just be retarded
>>16045640
Photo of the same area on the opposite caliper
why are you wasting your time with these pics
just grab a 13mm and tighten all the mounts and go away.
>>16045674
>actual /o/ related question where someone is learning about their car
>whaaaaa bring back the cartoon girls and laptimes
>>16045660
Nah he's still alive afaik, I had to testify against him in court last year. I'd get a more relevant custom trip but the programs are probably viruses these days
>>16045665
So just tighten that bolt with a socket/wrench? Do I just go all the way or is there a torque setting, I noticed there are little rubber joints between the bolt and the caliper...
>>16045678
Lap times you say?
>>16045690
It's a floating caliper, the torque you put on that bolt won't affect that, just crank it down, looks like you can still get a socket on it to me, only one way to find out
>>16045667
Why r there so many spray points?
Like a line just spewing some shit everywhere?
Wtf did u buy op?????
>>16045690
Nah definitely dont go all the way, because if it is stripped you'll never get it off, 30ft/lb should be more than tight enough for it. the guide bolts arent usually specced to more than that.
>>16045697
OK thanks. I'll go away, fix it and drive it a bit and if nothing goes wrong, well cool. Thank you, stranger.
>>16045709
Alright, I'll estimate I guess. No way to fit my torque wrench in there.
>>16045724
I mean honestly as long as you dont shear anything you wont have a problem, just get it on there tight, but dont go at it like crazy. obviously you dont want them falling off, but if you break the head off the bolt then youre going ot have a bigger problem.
>>16045739
I couldn't get the bolt on any tighter than it was already. Oh well.
>>16045489
He put the vise on to hold the slide pin in place while he tightened the bolt down and forgot to remove it
As long as the bolt is tight, hey, free tools!
>>16045788
Ye just drove it around for about 30 minutes, everything seems ok. Small oil leak at the back of the oil pan though, where the ridge meets the driveshaft. Fun.
>>16045788
This. All others in this thread are morons who don't do simple work on cars. Guide pins generally float in the caliper bracket and sometimes spin when You go to tighten the bolt. Some pins have either a hex to hold with a wrench while you tighten the bolt or a shoulder on the pin itself that catches on the bracket to stop it from spinning. You're fine op. PO just forgot to remove vise grips cause too much reefer.
I'm pretty sure it's a mustang.>>16045503
>>16045601
Just try moving the hose it was on around and seeing if the caliper feels loose. If nothing seems broken just let it be. If it was on a bolt/nut it probably was used since one was stripped or they didn't have the right wrench. No need to fix a working caliper.
>>16046000
Bingo
>>16045994
Will silicone sealant stop the oil pan leak? At least for temporary.
>>16046043
Mines black. New edge aswell
>>16046058
Pic related?
>>16046067
Yep.
>>16045705
A $2300 shitbox that hasn't given me too many problems. Except an oil leak, which seems pretty easy to fix either way.
