How do I learn about cars?
I want to communicate with car people.

I want to know shit like car models, years, shape, design and brand. I also want to know somewhat inside and know what shit like what suspension carburetor even is.

Where do I extract these types of knowledge?
What forums? What youtube channels and other things would be helpful.

Thanks.
>>
>>16042362
>suspension carburetor

It atomizes your suspension fluid for a nice even mix before it goes in the intake of your shocks.
>>
Buy a civic, faggot.
>>
>>16042362
Don't bother, they'll work out you're a phoney pretty quickly.
No one cares if you're not an expert.

Experience. Once you start driving, you notice things, meaning, when you see eighteen 20-something's driving mustang gts, you realize what true danger is.
Technical knowledge comes from experience. Work on your car and learn about the basics of that kind of stuff. You can't read about the technologies and understand completely how they function. Only then, do you realize that most suspension is pretty similar, and that carbeuretors have no place in the modern world.
>>
Relentless study. Learn before your lips move. Listen before you speak.

BTW most modern dads don't know shit about cars. You have to self-teach or find a mentor. Study one popular auto, perhaps the Civic, and download a service manual then study how the vehicle works.

You can internet most of what you seek, but it will be lots of study like anything else. I enjoy it.

>>16042380
Do you want it to be a dude?

>>16042385
* As to years and models, that's something you'll have to work out. Up until the eighties, each model year of a car usually had a small tweak from the previous year's. Certain years are distinguishable from others due to this. I.e. the dual taillight bulbs on a 59 Chevy/caddy/etc

The best bet is to start with an enthusiast forum for your own car. They'll usually have a subforum for every individual section of the vehicle with loads of topics detailing certain aspects.

Compounded on that, check out the major YouTube channels like Motor Trend and The Smoking Tire. Watch Top Gear and every old car chase movie from the 60s and 70s. Watch Mad Max. Pick out some of the cars from those movies and look up enthusiast forums for those cars.

/o/ is a shit place to get car knowledge. Most of us just shitpost and never actually trade information.

You only get good at car stuff by working on them and you can't work on them without basic knowledge.

You wear clothes, ever learned to make them?

Do you know exactly how your TV works? Computer? Computer programs you use?

Have you ever built a house? Even done your own electrical or HVAC work?

I imagine it's the same thing with some people and cars. You use something, but just have very little interest in building/fixing/knowing the intricacies of how things work. As far as you know, it works, and it works because other people know how to do it.

I personally research the things I'm interested in, but I've always wondered (for instance) how modern textiles are made; all the fine threaded clothes. But, I've never been interested enough to even Google it. Just don't really care. I look and say "probably something relatively complicated." and I go on about my day.
>>
>>16042609
what a gay reply, why are you so salty about it? and yes, I learn how things work. because if I use something for hours a day, everyday for years, and possibly depend on it, I will eventually learn even if it's as simple as googling how to do a backup. comparing basic maintenance to engineering, factory work or textile work that is a process that goes through hundreds of people is just dumb
>>
>>16042609
These things were basic in Socialist/Post-Socialist Europe.

You would mend your clothes if they ripped.
You would try to fix your electronics if they borked.
You would improve your own house and maintain it.

So why is so out there that a person should know how to fix his own car?
>>
>>16042609
>Explains why people don't know about cars by using other examples equivalent to it.

Non hands on , Internet and books. Hands on , get an older Chevy or gmc truck. Some of the easiest things to learn to do things on. Also you could take classes.
>>
>>16042578

I appreciate it. I know I've gotta be making an impact, but I don't get a lot of positive responses. Mostly it's just fan boys that want to shit on Mopar because they're on their comeback tour in a big way.

Are you saying cars aren't engineered? How is the combustion process and associated engine wizardry less difficult to understand than how your computer works? I mean actually works.
>thinks making backups is somehow relevant
That's the PC equivalent to putting your own gasoline in. Doesn't mean you know fuck all about the computer.

Not sure why I expected more from this Taiwanese cartoon trading network.

I worked in a garage for a bit to learn about cars and can safely say that if you actually enjoy cars YOU DO NOT WANT TO WORK IN A GARAGE

There's a very big difference between working on cars you like vs working on some grandma's neglected broke ass 1992 Chrysler that hasn't had an oil change in 5 years because she only drives 3 miles to and from Church
>>

>And why do men like watching women have orgasm, even when they know it's fake
Because men are usually flapping and need material, fake or not, and she's not faking it, she has a "neck and shoulder messager" pressed against her clit
>>
>>16042555
Carbeuretors are very inefficient compared to fuel injection systems.
>>
>>16044223

Top Gear is a great way to get into cars though. That's my point.
>>
>>16044897

They also allow for much more massive fuel dumping, allowing for significantly more power output. In drag racing application, carbs most certainly DO have a use in modern day.

A mechanically adjustable carb can also be very valuable for expeditionary driving. Variable altitudes are easily adjusted for with just basic hand tools.

Fuck you, carbs are awesome.
>>
>>16044897

Duh. That said, on small engines a carb is much preferable for world travel because you can fix them with a clothes pin.

Carbs have their place. I have 3 bikes. 2 are FI'd and one is carbed. My Mexico bike is carbed with a 9 gallon fuel tank. It can run on 78 octane fuel.
>>
>>16044905
This, just keep in mind that the presenters have their baises which make no logical sense so when say Jeremy Clarkson has a downer on every German car maker that isn't a Mercedes, particularly Porsche, its sorta just their inherent bais

I learnt the most about cars buy studying how to modify them.

The two things i would pass on is to try to get somewhat of a handle on what "suspension geometry" is, not like on a academic level just its inherent value to knowing why it makes some vehicles handle so much nicer. And in regards to engines keep in mind that the Cylinder Head is the brain, and the Camshaft is the heart.
>>
>>16044913
Carbs are outdated on any vehicle you would use on a daily bases though, and you have to go to extreme lengths of racing (either super compact and lightweight 2 stroke oriented) or professional level NRA thousands on thousands on thousands of HP to see any point in them.

I mean yeah they are fun to tinker with, i love the over-rich sounds you get on lift-off from a carb'd engine, but by and large fuck them, EFI can do practically everything better.
>>
>>16044940

Until they fail outside of the first world with internet access. Then you're fucked.

If you understand carbs then FI stuff is easy. Not so much otherwise.

I love FI. It's great, but only in the world of computers and well equipped mechanics.

>>16042510
