ive always thought carb engines looked prettier. fuel injection makes them look like they are on life support.

look how clean and nice an engine looks with a carb
>>
I'm a function over form kind of guy. Meaning I care more about how something performs rather than how it looks. I've never owned a carbed vehicle, and I think they're outdated technology.

That being said: I've always really liked the way they looked. Absolutely beautiful mechanisms. The individual throttles are what get me the most.

I used to be one of those guys that constantly shilled carburetors and would ramble on about how FI isn't that much better but I realize now after having experienced both significantly that FI is obviously superior from a performance aspect. Even the whole maintenance/dependability argument is a partial meme as FI has become so mainstream that there are very little issues that come from FI.

With that said, I have a tremendous amount of respect for carbureted setups. It's such a brilliant system....there is something to be said for something so raw and mechanical. No meme electronics...just gravity. It's like taking the lid off a toilet seat and realizing the simplicity and effectiveness of such a physical system.

I dunno man. My autism is bad these days

No, all of them are art - untill you slap on an oxygen sensor, which turns them into science.

You can get ITB's on both carbs and injection setups. Both are sexy as fuck.

There's nothing complicated about carbs or FI.

Mechanical fuel injection is fucking neato though.

>On Cat 3400 series engines, the fuel injection pump takes after the engine it was built for e.g a 3408 has a tiny v8 fuel injection pump on top of it.

Eh, In comparison to the engine it fuels, it's pretty small. The V12 pumps are much more appealing to look at.

They're an inline four downdraft design for a V8.

>>16038327
It actually had worse fuel distribution compared to a regular fourbarrel, and they're probably harder to make too. I'd rather have four twobarrels instead, like pic related. Crossrams are my fetish.
>>
>>16037772
The amount of engineering and science that went in to making the modern carburetor is insane. These clowns barely know how tune a single barrel lawnmower, don't let them near a 4 barrel carb.
>>
>>16037934
Fuel injection can easily malfunction if one of the dozens of sensors required to run it fails
>>
>>16039030
Dozens?
MAP, IAT, O2, TPS are all you need
>>
>>16039030
And carbs can clog up, flood, don't respond well to altitude and temperature changes...
Both have pros and cons, dude. Use whichever suits your application.
>>
>>16039150
All of those can be fixed on the aide of the road m8
>>
>>16039158
Replacing a sensor isn't hard either.
>>
>>16039175
My bad ill just carry spare sensors to drop in my busy af engine bay
>>
>carb malfunctions
>starts spewing fuel everywhere, everyone takes off running in every direction while I kill the engine.

>>
>>16037772
My first jeep was EFI

Watching all the guys I wheeled with stumble on inclines because of their carbs sold me. That and now I live in the land of the 14ers and you don't get any suck when you get high, don't have to readjust.

The bad side is I missed ever doing carbs myself and I'm clueless as fuck, which has only ever come up once, but still feels bad.

>>

lol carbs don't work at extreme angles bruh
>>
>>16039239
Probably due to the carb not being level, which some later/advanced carbs did have some protection against.

>Would you consider carburetion an art?
Sure. Tuning a carburetor requires a certain amount of artistry without the aide of modern equipment (like grandpa used to do)
> and Electronic fuel injection a science?
Just as much of an art, if not more so. Do you tune for economy, power, balance?
>would mechanical fuel injection be a black art?
No. More like a halfway movement. If carburetors were baroque, and efi post-modernism, then mfi would be art deco.
