Check the power steering fluid.

probly your power steering dumped itself out on the road and the hissing is from the pump trying to pump a whole lot of fucking nothing.

When did you change it last? It should be changed every 5 years.
Also, check for leaks overnight. Put a piece of cardboard under the engine.

I know some vehicles have "speed dependent" Steering. If the steering feels too easy but still turns properly (no slack) it could be that that system is running the power steering at full power even at speed? No idea if it applies to your vehicle op, just brainstorming.

Take it to a mechanic who will actually fucking check the thing properly because if fuckstick there didn't pick up on the old power steering fluid he clearly didn't look at a damn thing.

If there's nothing clearly loose or leaking from underneath, replace the power steer fluid, rotate your tyres and make sure they're at 34psi and see if that helps.
