I know this is not a new question, but it needs to be asked.
What are some head units suitable for a 90s car?
>no blue/red flashing LEDs
>no mirror finish
>no chrome
>no crazy methamphatamine rave lighting
Does such a unit even exist any more? The market is flooded with pic related indian-chic bullshit.

The 90s head unit that was left in your car when you imported it.
>>
OEM. Why would you need anything else?
>>
>>16020789
Beauty. But no aux mp3. Can't have form over function desu. That's a trap modern hipster car guys fall into. Sacrifice functionality for that retro chic - that logic is evil and insane.
>>
>>16020810
You can still get tape to aux jack adapters.
>>
>>16020816
True. But I wouldn't retrofit one of these units and then do this.
>>
>>16020772
the oem one. if it's a popular car there's probably an oem replacement that has had an aux jack put in.
>>
Most of the newer headunits have a color changing setting.

In my 1984 buick, I just bought the most generic one with color changing options, and I have it set to a tan/gold soft lighting that matches my interior lights.
>>
Cant most cars with remote cd changers have that connection hacked up and an aux in put in place of the cd changer signal?
>>
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00F3D2RI2/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=

Been looking for days- this is the only one I've found that meets criteria- AUX/BT/FM/AM and isn't offensive in a car.

There is supposedly a Kia K102R unit but I can't find that anywhere. May look in a junkyard before I give up, though.

Saw a thread like this a while ago where another anon just took out an oem radio from a Suzuki that came with factory bluetooth. Just the basic look with extra features. So just find a a car with a decent stereo you want. You'll need to cut out the factory wiring and connect it to yours, but it would be pretty easy to do.

Enough with the tape deck adapter bs! I'm a musician and I do pay attention to sound quality. Also I don't even have the original head unit. I got the car with some crapy aftermarket cd player.
>at least 17 years old and makes enough noise on its own
It's 19 years old and it's in prety good shape. Bought it from a second owner that was an older German fella that took a good care of the car.
The perfect solution would be to get the original head unit, crack the code somehow and somehow build in the aux while keeping the tape deck functional. There's this easy instal aux set that would be ideal but unfortunately it's only for 9-3's and 9-5's.
>>
>>16023839
I have 4 running on it.

>Also I don't even have the original head unit. I got the car with some crapy aftermarket cd player.
Oh, nevermind them, I have a 2001 9-3, adding aux to the head unit requires some minor soldering to the stereo circuit board.

Waiting on my adapter to arrive to put it into my new car.
>>
I didn't really see any other audio thread up and I don't feel like going to /mu/ about this.
I just got a sub and amp installed today. They were working perfectly fine for about 2 hours. I park at auto zone, walk in, and 20 minutes later, I come out, start the car, and there's this grumbling coming from the sub. It won't go away no matter what. If i take the face plate off, it gets much quieter, but it's still there. What the hell could have happened in that 20 minutes to make my shit go outta whack like this?
>I plan on going back to the shop to find out tomorrow, but I figure I might as well try to go in with some idea of what might have happened.
>>
>>16025563
Go to amp
Unplug the RCA cables for the sub
Still buzzing? Check the ground for the amp, otherwise your RCA cables are poop.

Doesn't hurt to check the polarity of the amp to subwoofer.

A few more things to consider though.

Did they use the factory head unit? if so did they run line level inputs to the amp? If so were they run next to power lines?

Line level inputs already buzz, add the EMI from power cords and your fucked.

Also, are they amp and the headunit grounded at the same point of the car? This is a typical mistake. A slight difference in the ground voltage between headunit/amp can cause a buzz.

>>
>>16027838
Ok then. Shorts in remote connection for some older revisions of Pioneer-head units would break a small fuse (?) that acted as (IIRC) an isolator or diode between some parts and that would cause coil whine. Or so I read up on somewhere a long time ago when I managed to fuck up one Pioneer HU. Not sure if that's related here, but just putting that small possibility out there.
>>
>>16027937
Well, we put the new RCA in and ran it down the passenger side door, away from the old wire. Still doing it. The guy thinks it might be the head unit itself, since taking the plate off makes it a lot less loud. We're gunna try a new head unit to test it out.

Becker makes great 90s looking radios, works especially well with german cars, it's hard to tell they aren't stock
