Need to buy something with good mpg's and manual. I've narrowed my options to CRX or CRZ, its not easy finding a clean CRX so leaning towards CRZ, which one guys

How is that better than lightly used CRZ?
>>
>>16016861
Get an early Honda Insight. It meets both of your criteria and gets better gas milage than both cars you posted.
>>
>>16017013
As a CRZ owner, a Fit has a magically spacious interior. CRZs look good, but they are not practical. They're going for dirt cheap now so if you see a good price get it, just stay away from the CVT as it's absolutely terrible.
>>
>>16017013
Also I HIGHLY doubt you're going to find a clean, unmolested CRX that you're going to want to DD. You might as well give that up.
>>
>>16017080
I think I'll stick with CRZ, it looks nice and has good aftermarket including Honda's supercharger
>>
>>16017113
I actually have the S/C. You won't be getting the HPD S/C anytime soon, if ever. There was a huge waiting list for them and only a few were produced. Pretty sure it's dead now. I just went the Jackson Racing route. It's the same thing except it doesn't have HPD stamped on it.
>>
>>16017133
How is the supercharger? Did you get CVT? I heard you get a SOLID 200HP
>>
>>16017147
CVT is AIDS. I have the MT. S/C breathes life into the car. It's about 180 to the wheels with the J/R tune. Honestly if you're going to spend money on the car, don't bother with the ricer shit the CRZ community has a tendency to do. S/C, coilovers, exhaust, and you're done.
>>
>>16017195
How much is the kit/tune? Was it worth it in the end?
>>
Crz understeer makes me nervous

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L9t__t5tnCA
>>
>>16017210
I think it was like 6k.
Was it worth it? No.

The car isn't a performance vehicle and never will be. For the cost of the vehicle and the kit you could have purchased an older V8 and S/C it with cash to spare.

That being said, I had the disposable income and I've enjoyed the fuck out of the S/C. I 100% have gotten my money out of it in enjoyment.

>>16017220
Think that's bad, dude flipped his a few weeks ago on the dragon after over correcting his understeer. Some of the understeer can be mitigated through suspension modifications, but at the end of the day it's a FF vehicle with McPherson struts and a solid rear axle.
>>
>>16017229
But a supercharged CRZ is perfect balance of fun shitbox commuter, I've seen clean CRZ's with 50k miles selling for like 10-12k
>>
>>16017229
Also another thing to note is the S/C pushes the internals and clutch to the last point of safety. The rods have a tendency to snap and the clutch gives out once you push past 200 WHP. I've had mine for almost 2 years now with no impact on the vehicle with the base tune. Going more aggressive will require forged internals which is 100% not fucking worth it for that SOHC engine.
>>
>>16017282
>But a supercharged CRZ is perfect balance of fun shitbox commuter
100% it is and you're approaching it with the correct attitude. Alot of people like to pretend it's going to be some quarter mile hero and just a hybrid on adderall. Also you should be able to get a clean CR-Z with 50k for less than that. More like 8-9k. Dealerships where going through hell to move them last time I checked so you should have plenty of room to negotiate.
>>
>>16017229
>but at the end of the day it's a FF vehicle with McPherson struts and a solid rear axle.
that solid rear is just fucking confusing to me
they could have just done an Si non-hybrid version and gone multilink/wishbone rear
>>
>>16017301
Yeah it was one of the many places they dropped the ball. I think it comes from the Fit which the car is based off of. I wish I could go back in time and hit the person making the design choices on the vehicle preproduction. So many small things could have been changed to produce an efficient vehicle that handled well in the vein of a Beat or even the actual thing they tried to mimic, the CRX.
>>
>>16017301
>>16017319
Maybe because civic si sales would plummet?
>>
>>16017089

I've seen 30k mile SiRs on the import sites for like 10k
>>
>>16017332
>civic si sales would plummet
I doubt something like a Beat or CRX would kill Si sales. The draw of the Si is the K series engine. I think they should have made the CRZ a lighter weight, better handling vehicle. Not a more powerful vehicle.

>>16017346
Yeah, importing is alot more practical now days, but do you really want to pay 10k for an old CRX to DD?
>>
>>16016861
what do you drive now? including year and mileage.
>>
>>16017080
As a Fit owner, it does have a magically spacious interior. So many crossovers do not even come close in terms of cargo space behind the rear seats.

I average 35 mpg which is slightly below the CR-Z, but at least you do not have to worry about the hybrid stuff breaking.

Why does it have to be a CRX? My first car was a 1993 civic hatch and my 2nd car was a 99 civic hatch. Much more practical than the CRX and not much heavier. I loved both of them. Never had any mechanical problems with either of them and probably put close to 175,000 miles combined on the two of them. All they ever needed was normal maintenance (tires, breaks, fluids, belts, hoses etc)

Equal mpgs without hybrid batteries, and more interior room. Also more standard equipment. Also more warranty. Also a panoramic roof option. Also a DC automatic. Also cuter.

yeah, of course it SEEMS good, but if a brand that isn't known to make trash cars made a hot hatch, it would be pretty good.

Are you saying that all those Mazdaspeed3s that I've seen don't actually exist anymore? Amazing, they seemed so real.
>>
>>16021517
They certainly do exist, about as much as the body of my dead grandmother rotting away in the ground.

It's only a shame they killed it and decided to focus on selling pigfat 6s now.
>>
>>16016912
It doesn't.

I don't think I've ever seen one in real life.

>>
>>16017220
there are work arounds similar to what you need to do to make civic 7th gens have more active steering or controllable under steering. controllable under steer you want lsd(optional, sometimes gets worse results) and under tuned power steering, though this requires you to do sudden sharp turns and give a little shake back and fourth with the steering wheel in uneven turns. active steering work around is really expensive and manages to be more deadly than the other work around power steering has to be swaped and relocated or redone with custom parts, different cut of gears for better 0-60(0-60 of less than 6s practically requires lsd), redone steering rack, and basic suspension tuning from what i recall.
>>
>>16017877
The insight was a flop because the technology was in its infancy and the car cost more to produce than it sold for.
>>
>>16016861
Jesus, don't buy a newer econobox. You're just paying for a few more features worse MPGs, and higher maintenance costs.

Buy a civic for 2 grand and save your money.
>>
>>16021613
I actually almost bought one before settling on a Golf. I didn't like the shifter on it. Could not feel when the gears engaged at all, nor could I feel when the clutch would bite. Not sure if that's par for all of them or just that one.
>>
>>16021781
mpgs are about the same as old models on the newer ones. the few that get worse than 38mpgs with swapped oil are not even econo base trims. 35-38 mpgs on a 2L engine isn't that bad though they weigh a lot more and honda likes to put heavy insulation in their cars anymore.
>>
>>16022672
The CR-Z does not have good insulation fyi. Shit is creaky af. Also real world MPG is more like mid 40's if you're not being a fucboi.
>>
>>16016861
Get the CRX. I have a '94 VX Hatch which is prett similar, and I find it a lot more enjoyable to drive than any modern car. Granted all the modern cars I've driven were shitbox rentals at work, but they were all fucking awful to drive. The feel of dat manual steering and tin can weight is great, and the wind buffeting with the windows down at highway speeds is a fraction as noisy as a modern car.
>>
>>16022705
btw just keep looking for clean Hondas. I live in Las Vegas (aka FUCKING MEXICO) and I was able to find a 100% bone stock down to the tape deck 1 owner EG hatch for less than $3k, so anything is possible.
