Hi /o/, what's your opinion on people who use motocross bikes as street bikes?
>>
They make me wish I could use a buggy as a street car.

The gear ratios are incredibly short because dirt bikes are engineered for their task which is offroad use only. You will need to change the gearing at the very least. The stock riding position and suspension isn't great for high speed either. Finally if you keep the throttle pinned at top speed for prolonged ammounts of time the engine will need rebuilds every 10-20 hours which is normal for dirtbike engines if they are either abused on roads or pushed to the limit on the track.
Basically, dirtbikes are not worth it for road use unless you really want to do a supermoto conversion and be an edgy fuck.

not all dirt bikes are 2 stroke, anon
>>
>>16000135
It's true that 2 strokes die much quicker but 4 strokes tend to snap valves or throw rods all the time. Those engines are built to be as powerful and light as possible inside a given displacement, not for long term reliability. It is expected that you rebuild them regularly.

>be an edgy fuck
If having a fun bike makes me edgy, then so be it. It sure is easy to be labeled edgy nowadays.

Personally, I like supermotos more than adventure bikes considering I don't do any long cross country trips. They're a blast in town and still have more off road capability with pilot power 2s than an adventure on tkc80s.

To each their own.

If it's just a normal dualsport like a DR-Z or WR250R then eh, power to you.

If it's a highly strung MX bike, you're a masochist.

Would much rather DD a sportbike than an MX bike imo.

OP might say "motocross" but he probably means dirt bikes in general.

If he means a fire breathing 450, then yeah it's going to require a lot of work, but it's still going to be fun as fuck. A trail bike like a XR or DRZ etc then it's no different than any other scooter or street bike, and definitely has the gear spread to handle the street. It'll be screaming down the highway but it'll be just fine on surface roads.

It's not like they're putting 15k a year on it in the rain, sleet and snow either. At most it'll get ridden a few times a week, short distances, when the weather is nice. More like once a month or less in most cases.

Most dirt bikes here are ridden by chavs and other morons looking to cause trouble with no regard for anyone elses safety.

Same goes for quaddies as its usually some shithead in a shirt and flip flops blasting the throttle looking like a dumbass.

I think I've only ever encountered less than a handful of motocross or quad bikers who actually knew what they were doing, ride whatever the hell you want but don't be a fucking prick about it.
