This is why things like heel-toe exist. In the case of cornering, you have to brake, and then accelerate when coming out of the corner, so applying what i said you want to brake and downshift when cornering.

It depends entirely on how much you press the throttle. In my car, if you put the pedal on the floor, it will drop a gear and start pulling. If you just nudge, it will just rev up a bit in the same gear. A lot of dbw automatics treat the pedal range as the acceleration range and pressing the pedal harder will accelerate the car harder (and not just give more gas).

Also, you can always just disable od and pretend like it makes your car accelerate faster just because the revs go up.
