is there a safe way to drill into your car to install kits or do people do it knowing that it'll really hurt the body panel over time?

im just confused by all these 100k+ mod cars that people are drilling into their body panels to install rocket bunny (and similar) kits
>>
can probably afford replacement panels.
>>
if they can afford a 100k car they can also afford a replacement $100 panel if they need it.
>>
>>15990531
b-but the paint!

paint is expensive! unless they happen to find a good condition car with the same color part..
>>
>>15990527
These 100k mods never ever get driven, so the panels will never be exposed to conditions that will hurt them
>>
>>15990538
Ok, our $100 fix went up to $500. Still nothing compared to the mod prices.

i see people dailying rocket bunny kitted cars all over the place, but im in southern california so conditions are pretty good for it
>>
>>15990527
those are rivets fuckface.
>>
>>15990735
And how do you get the rivets in there, ask nicely?
>>
>Buff holes then paint them.
>Use grommets to separate bolts from panel.
>Use stainless bolts or something inert for mounting.

Should be fine after that.
>>
>>15990527
is that a toyobaru?
>>
vancouver car eh

a lot of people with widebody/rocketbunny kits here

atleast its not as bad as 45 degree camber

Well, first you cut the fuck out of the original fender to accommodate that body kit, so making a hole for the rivet isnt the end of the fucking world
>>
>>15990982
Unless you live in a place where they salt the roads, or by the ocean, or where it rains all the time, where after a few years you get hiluxfender.jpg
>>
>>15990993
That's a lot of places.
>>
>>15990993
well, if you live in those places, you would paint over the exposed metal, or apply some sort of protection.

Yeah, exactly. I understand doing it if you don't daily the car or have enough money not to care at all, but it doesn't make any sense for primarily daily driven cars imo
>>
>>15990993
>cut into panel in some fashion exposing bare metal
>paint that bare metal
>rust no longer an issue

It's not rocket surgery. And sure it won't last as long as an un-touched panel would have but with modern rust proofing techniques we're still talking about cars that won't start rusting until they hit ~25/30 years old. This is especially true of people who spend big money and do their mods properly.
>>
>>15990982
I don't understand. People care about a rivet, because they don't want to cut their panels, but cutting off the whole panel to affix their new bodykit without rivets fixes the adhesion issue?
>>
>>15991247
What?
>>
>>15991230
>modern rust proofing lasting 25-30 years

I hope you mean aftermarket work, right?
Cars today barely have enough to protect against air. Introduce water and/or winter, and the cars are gone after 10 years.
>>
>>15991230
Here in Hawaii cars older than the mid-90s are absolute unicorns because they all rust away to nothing. All cars, even newer ones rust out from the salty air over here unless you're unbelievably careful.
>>

I had car at work the other day with """bolt on""" flares that were glued on.
>>
>>15991425
I can't figure out your tone, but yeah. Good luck finding anything classic over here. I love '90s Japanese cars, but the survivors are stupid expensive, like $7000 for a S13 with a cone filter, eBay fart cannon, and completely ruined clear coat.

Rivets are like hood pins and cut springs.

A great way to fuck the value of a road car.

They do it knowing that it's ugly and obvnoxious, so probably yes.
