Why no Porsche Thread?

Let's talk about Porsche.

Just bought my 2nd Porsche:

I see.

looks like the wheels barely clear the calipers.

How long have you had the car? I've had mine for about a month now. having a pretty good time.

Just trying to look for things to do with the car. As far as i know, theres not much one can do besides changing out the exhaust and de-snorkeling/changing the CAI of the car.

Thankfully mine didn't come with amber lights, it's perfect besides the damn seats, they're the non sport ones so the shoulder support is terrible.
>>
>>15990103
kill urself.
>>
>>15991253
The wheels do look tight, but they're actually a perfect fit

I've had my car for 3 years now, but this past year I haven't really driven it since I'm going to school in the US, so basic maintenance has been a pain in the ass to do the few days I am home

There really isn't that much you can do besides maintinence. The replacement parts are newer versions of the old parts so they'll last longer and operate better than the original parts, whenever they fail and you have to replace them anyways
Things like the air-cooled separator, which is on its 4th revision

Desnorkle takes like 2 minutes, but if you really want to open up the intake you can make a custom intake using 3" PVC pipe and a pair of 90 degree nitrile elbows
I left the air box stock because it's good enough and it's right behind your ear
There's tons of stuff like that on pedro's garage website

And definitely don't skimp out on the fluids, sparkplugs, filters, etc
All of that should keep you plenty busy and there's not much else you can do without spending thousands of dollars for minimal gains

I guess you can get a Chinese short shifter for $70, that's what I did
Underdrive pulley might help a bit if you plan on tracking your car, adds some bhp and keeps the power steering pump from cooking itself
And since you have the newer radio you can add an AUX input by buying a $5 cable for it, just search "Becker CDR-220 AUX cable" on eBay

i heard that you can modify a 987 CAI and you'll have some good gains. It's essentially what the 50 anniversary 986 used, i might give it a try.

and yeah, i'm planning to do a coolant flush since i'm sure it's atleast 3 years old, also take the front bumper off and vacuum the front radiators.

I heard that the smaller pulley did add some power, but i didn't know the power steering pump shat itself? got any more info on that?

I think the stock shifter throw is just about perfect for me. Im aware of the aux capabilities, just gotta get that cable and keys.

my biggest want right now is to make the exhaust a little more.. porsche-ish. but of all the exhausts i've heard the only one i like is the fabspeed ones, which cost a fortune :(

You can search online about the power steering pump cooking itself

Basically it over heats when it's worked too hard, and this happened a lot when 911 veterans drove Boxsters on the track and used a 911 specific trick called "sawing the wheel"

Worked at a used car dealer a year ago and got to drive a trade in (2014 Cayman) They're really nice cars. It was from out of CA so we had to smog it so I drove it on Highway one which is fairly close to the dealership. If I had $50k+ laying around I'd probably buy a new S.

I wanna get a 911 and theyre decently cheap but theyre that ugly ass dogshit model, i dont know what theyre called, the ones with big headlights. If I had to buy one of those which one would be the best choice? im not sure how the carrera S works, 2 s is faster than 4 s?
>>

>>15993814
You probably mean the 996. As for model names, the "2" or "4" just means the amount of driven wheels, so the Carrera 2 and 2S are RWD and the Carrera 4 and 4S are AWD.
>>
>>15993819
thanks, good to know, yeah i meant the 996. So which model would you recommend? I'm not even sure if theyre worth the money as I havent done much research, I imagine theyre really not that fast compared to more modern cars right
>>
30k budget
MFW I cant afford a 911
>>
>>15993837
You can get a really nice Cayman S for that, or even a base 997.

>>15993836
I'd probably go for a C2S personally because I don't think it really needs the AWD. Might as well get the 2S with a couple more options or in better condition, unless you really like the 4S' widebody.
>>
I love 996. Get a pre 2004 with the areo kit... it looks amazing. Or get a 2004 4S for that widebody and awesome bar taillight. Such an awesome car.

You dont know my anguish lads, I live in a dogshit country named Ireland who makes me pay 2k euros a year in TAX only, not including insurance and any other expenses for an engine larger than 2L. Which means if I buy a boxster I would be paying half its value every year I own it just in tax.

Dutchfag here, I feel your pain.
>>
>>15993915
I recently discovered you dutch have some cucktier laws including not being able to drive in major cities if your car is old or some shit, if i remember correctly.
>>
>>15993926
Yeah, some cities don't allow cars made before '97 in. It's utter bullshit.
Also classics are not cars that are 25 years old like in the rest of the world, but no, it takes 40 years here.
Also some of the highest gas prices in the world.

Still, decent quality roads, mods and engine swaps are no real problem as long as you don't majorly fuck something up, insurance is reasonable and used car prices are pretty much in line with the rest of the world. It's not all terrible.
>>
>>15993836
A 996 C4S is plenty fast for you
>>
>>15993940
interesting, in ireland classic insurance starts at 20 years old and classic tax at 30 but classic tax is like 50 euro for an entire year which is nothing, im honestly considering buying an e30 bmw or some shit thats from 1988 or earlier
>>
>>15993909
>>15993915
When your country's laws piss you off...move. Don't pay taxes to a government that actively tries to kill the things you care about.

My country taxes larger engines, but you need to get to modern Lamborghini sizes before you reach 2k/year

Plenty of people swap different engines into 944s. There's a kit available that allows you to drop in an LS.
Other engines people have used include the Audi inline 5 (with or without turbo), Audi 4.2l V8, VW VR6, VW 1.8T, Toyota 1UZ-FE and even an aircooled Porsche flat 6.

Not pretty.

It's your personal opinion.
It's a classic sports car. I know a millionaire that bought a 944 turbo few years ago. The appreciation is growing. The 928 is a classic GT car and it's a more exclusive car when it comes to costs.

Is Porsche a good car? I've noticed that a lot of people live by it. Bill Gates, Gabe Newell, Steve Jobs, and Jerry Seinfeld are notable fans. Any particular reason people who have them love them?

How would a 911 Turbo S compare to an Aventador or 458 Italia? Would it be a better option? It certainly seems like it draws the least amount of attention.

Porsches due to their engine location provide a very different driving experience which people like, the way the rear end sinks in and how it handles makes them very special cars.

They are also really fucking cheap to run compared to similar cars of the price bracket, even cheaper compared to the italians and BMW/Mercedes.

Atleast the non turbo ones until now were, only time will tell how all the turbo porsches hold up in the future.

They also have a fair amount of affordable aftermarket things compared to italian supercars, where to change a single thing you're talking 5 digits.

I am probably a little biased but my experience owning porsches has been very good compared to other german cars i've owned (Audis and BMW's)

Generally yes. But those years aren't terrible yet. The pre 79 are ridiculous in price at this point. But I've seen 911 sc and a few Carreras in early 80's go for under 30k. Even a few 993s but those get snagged quick
>>
>>16000681
Porsche interiors are nicer than most of the supercars I've been in. I have no idea how anything other than the Boxster drives though, and no one cares about the Boxster.
>>
>>16001570
Boxster is just an open top Cayman, so they should drive the same
>>
>>16001575
I've heard it's a little floppier which is generally the case with convertibles but I've never driven a Cayman so I can't really say.
>>
>>16001588
They made the Boxster as a proper roadster from the ground up, so it's already very stuff from the get go
Then to make the Cayman they just add a roof, which is why they're both very similar in regards to weight and chassis rigidity

What you're thinking about applies to cars that had their roofs lobbed off to make convertibles, like Mustangs, 3 series, and even the 911
>>
>>15990750
Rekt
>>
>>16001602
If that's the case then I'm probably mistaken about which car I'm thinking of. The Boxster definitely didn't feel like it was floppy to me but my experience with high end cars is very limited beyond taxing them around a parking lot. It was definitely tighter than my shitbox but I also wasn't going to seriously trash someone else's car on a public road in the middle of the day to really pick apart it's deficiencies.

For the same price as a 911 Carrera, you can get a Cayman GT4. For the same price as 911 Turbo S, you can get a Huracan or McLaren 570S. There's no reason to buy a 911 ever.
>>
>>16004968

Except for the fact that 911's are fucking perfect.
>>
>>16004968
You can actually drive a 911 Turbo S everyday, all year round

And Cayman GT4s are all sold out, anyone for sale is going for like $130k

Seriously considering buying a 987 Cayman s. It's going to cost roughly £15k for a 07 with 70k miles.

Is there anything I should be wary of going into this. It will be my daily driver as well.
>>
>>16005273
Just do regular maintenance on it

You can save some serious money if you do most of the work yourself

I never understood this regurgitated nonsense, a 911 Turbo S is no more reasonable to DD as any other car in it's segment. In the air cooled days when the alternative was a Testarossa or Diablo of course they were WAY more reliable, but these days it's all about the same for maintenance vs mileage and how drivable the cars are on the street.

Most of the thermal regulation in an air cooled 911 is done by the oil.
The oil is pumped through a big ass radiator with its own fan. Not to mention the oil capacity for a 993 is like 11 quarts.

Also the 959 and 993 Turbo used water cooled heads, so they definitely can't be considered air cooled.

>>
>>16019899
well actually i kinda want a 986 instead of a 996 as it's lighter and more balanced due to it being mid-engined

obviously i won't be able to afford anything air cooled but the 944 is a porsche from the 80's....therefore it drives like a porsche from the 90's since it is one...911's in the 80's were air cooled......i'm pretty sure a heatsink+fan isn't the only thing making those things skyrocket in price....either you see where i'm coming from or i'm just making a complete fucking retard out of myself in which i apologize
